Imagine your students with their phones out as you’re trying futility to teach a lesson; they’re completely ignoring you. It is probably not hard to imagine for most teachers (such as yourself) due to the nuisance that is cell phones. As a student, I know firsthand how distracting a cell phone can be when I am trying to listen to a teacher explain a subject or while I am doing schoolwork. Although many parents and students believe that phones are an advantage at school, there are many reasons as to why they are bad in school. Cell phones should not be allowed in the classroom because they are distracting, disrespectful to the teacher, and they lessen a student’s learning in school. Every day, millions of teens scroll through social media on their phones. According to Social Media Today, the average teenager spends approximately nine hours a day on social media. This takes away from hours of possible interaction between students as well as valuable learning time. It is inevitable that if a child has a phone in their possession, they will have the urge to check it. Even the simple action of checking for the time is distracting for students. It can cause other students to get distracted if they happen to see and this would cause other students to get distracted, causing a chain reaction of sorts which would result in the entire class not paying attention and losing focus. After that focus is lost, it can be very hard for students to regain. However, a situation like this can
Some can argue that cell phone use during school is highly uncivilized but it's extremely useful in many different ways and in different scenarios.Instead of viewing cellphones and other gadgets as negative additive distractions , we should view the positive side of celluar devices. Cell phones can help resolve issues and help make the school environment much easier, however do believe there should be restrictions , for instance not to use a phone while the teacher is having a discussion or teaching lesson. If a student can obey these rules and not use it in a disrespectful manner , then there should not be any issues. Cellular phones should be allowed in schools for threatening emergencies, to avoid double standards between teachers and students and most of all to help students with research purposes.
To overcome this problem and implement my solution, we will have to break it down piece by piece. The largest problem with the solution remains to be distractions in the classroom causes by inappropriate use of cell phones (text-messages, internet, games, etc.). I no way do I endorse
The use of cellphones in school has brought up debates all over the world. While some believe they are an advantage, others believe that they are a hindrance to the learning process. Despite the fact that smartphones can be used for important school activity such as research and time- management, they are also one of the main sources of classroom distractions. As a current student, I can attest to the fact that students often play games or text friends instead of listening to what is being taught. Students often argue that they need their phones to listen to music because it helps them focus. This has been vigorously studied and the results vary, but are not fully supportive. Not only have students made arguments as why they should be allowed to use their phones in school, but parents have as well. Most parents are in support of the having phones in school because they want to always have a way to contact their child. One thing parents do not realize is the ways their children are misusing their phone. Teachers should not have to fight the distraction caused by cell phones in the classroom. The use of smartphones in school causes too many distraction and there is a multitude of ways this privilege can be misused.
In each school there are absurd rules; ours by far has the most. Ok I get it, the staff is trying to us learn with a cleaner environment, but they have to be able to understand that phones CAN help you learn! Phones give us opportunities to hold many useful things such as calculators, passwords, and our schedules. I can see that they would want to take it away because it is “distracting”, but I honestly think that it is more distracting not having it then actually having it, now all we can think about is checking our phones. Although much of the public debate is against it, there are pros associated with allowing cell phones in school. These advantages should not be ignored since cellphones in schools can actually add value to the
What? Cell phones in a class room. Kinds using cell phones is class is a bad idea. They could be on inappropriate websites such as negative videos and games. These are some reasons why students should not be able to use their cell phones during class. Teachers and staffs just want children to do work on their cell phones without any problems out of them. Mean while some students may go tell the teacher if your on the wrong thing other than what your supposed to be on. If I was a parent I would not let my child bring him/her phone to school doing to bullying, teachers taking their phones and do to someone trying to take him/her phone. Schools will clearly promote their students' academic success and safety by limiting the use of student phones during school hours. Presently, most schools leave it to teachers to manage phone distractions in their own classrooms. But this piecemeal approach has left teachers with inadequate support to confront the difficult and potentially unsafe task of limiting disruptive phone use by defiant students. I would like to use cell phones in class but I cant because children do not know how to act their age. Children under the age of 14 should not have a phone. Students need to worry about their education instead of gossip and drama.
Phones shouldn’t be used in the classroom. They are bad because they are a distraction to the students. They are a distraction because the kids won't pay attention . The kids won't pay listen because they are too busy on their phone. This means teachers have to try way too hard to get their
People all around the world have many electronic devices, and there are abundant amounts of freedom that come with them. There are so many different technologies to choose from, but one that seems to be quite common among people of all ages, are cell phones. Such technology is great for many uses, but it is not always appropriate in certain settings. The principal at my school has adopted a new policy that bans the use of cell phones during school hours. I support my principal’s decision. Cell phones can be distractions in many ways to students during school. They can cause conflicts between fellow students and between students and teachers. Allowing cell phones during school hours also basically gives students permission to not pay
Thirdly, cell phones are just another item, and banning them makes them more irresistible to people, especially teenagers. "As a student, I understand that cell phones are distracting while a teacher is trying to help the students--but at the same time, I believe they become even more distracting to the class as a WHOLE when teachers make a huge deal out of trying to take a phone away or punish a student for having a phone out."(Answer.yahoo.com-2009)Cell phones could be one of the 5 distractions-talking, playing, throwing, devices, and physical actions. With cell phones you're making less distraction to the class because you’re not disturbing anyone but yourself and that’s a good
One reason why cell phones shouldn't be allowed in class is because students use cell phones to bully their fellow classmates or to bully a teacher on social media . A quote from "12 Problems Caused By Students With Phones" by Jon Akers says one reason why phones shouldn't be allowed is that there is "Bullying or harassing other
Picture this, there has been a school lockdown, the suspect cut the landlines so no one could call the police for a rescue. However, the suspect was captured by the police much faster than he imagined. The last scene wouldn’t have happened if it was one decade ago, because cell phones were not popular in schools then. When it comes to cell phones, some people think they should not be permitted in schools, and other people think they should be permitted in schools. I agree with the latter opinion for the following reasons: Cell phones are an efficient way to communicate when emergencies occur in school; cell phones can be a great tool for learning during school hours; and the current prohibitive rules on cell phones are merely fruitless
If your are allowed a cell phone in school and you get caught doing something you shouldn't, you could get in trouble. If cell phones weren't allowed in school there wouldn't be problems over the phone. If you have a phone in class it is a distraction from your learning. If your were a teacher would you want your students to have phones. Students would be on their phone while they should be doing homework. As students we go to school for seven hours. In those seven hours there is no reason they need to be on there phone. School is for learning, not looking at a phone.
One reason why students should be allowed to bring a cell phone to class is because cell phones can be used to contact emergency services in the case of an medical or law enforcement emergency. For example, if someone has a heart attack in a classroom where cell phones were allowed, then the classroom has multiple devices that can be used to contact medical personnel. On the other hand, if a medical emergency occurs in a classroom where cellphones are banned, then the number of ways to reach help is limited. Cell phones would also be useful in law enforcement situations. Students could use cell phones to communicate with police in real-time and videos can be used as evidence. Cell phones in classrooms are good because overall the more
Many teachers believe that cell phones don’t belong in a classroom because there are several disadvantages. An example maybe a student who uses a cell phone in class has no intension in listening or paying attention to the teacher. This student has a short attention span who cares about socializing more than his/her education. Cell phones can be very disruptive; they can invade people’s privacy and can also be used as harassment or bullying. The usage of cell phones is creating a huge problem particularly when they are used in school.
Many places in society are setting policies on digital device. The principal at my school has also set policies on banning cell phones in school. Students should not be permitted to use cell phones in school. Using cell phones during school allows students to cheat. Students will be more distracted by cell phones and pay less attention to the teacher and to the lesson. Students have a higher chance of getting in trouble if they use cell phones in school rather than if they are not allowed to use digital devices in school.
