Essay Final I agree with Collin Palmer that we shouldn't be so concerned about being obsessed with celebrities because for most of us it is harmless fun, however, there are a few people who seem to get too carried away, and for them it is a very negative influence. There are many teenagers and young kids that are overly obsessed with celebrities that it effects them in a negative way. The way it affects teenagers and kids negatively is that it can lead to depression or suicidal. Some of them even cry over the celebrity. In my experience, there were many teenage girls that went crazy when Zayn, from the band One Direction, left the group.
The rich and powerful have been looked up to as gods from the beginning of time. In the short essay response, Collin Palmer argues celebrity obsessions are over exaggerated. In Palmers short essay response, he explains how people overestimate the influence celebrities have on others. Even though Palmer is correct that celebrities can inspire and be idolized in a positive way, modern times and recent celebrities have shown that it can also be the complete opposite.
Young minds can be easily persuaded by celebrities they admire, so it's no disbelief a director would select these influential people to get teenagers to watch their show. With these celebrities, directors believe their ratings will go up and more people would be inspired to be like them. Reality TV mainly effects teenagers because they're easily manipulated and swayed that beauty, sex appeal, and verbal aggression is tolerable.
In the article, The Impact Celebrities Have on Our Lives, Deborah King discusses the topic of how today’s obsession over celebrities impact us both positively and negatively. Early on, King points out that people are obsessed with celebrities because they want to be like them and experience their lifestyle, or because they want to see the celebrities fail and be worse than that person. The writer also reveals that due to the Internet, we can find out any bad thing that a celebrity has done, and anything tragic that has happened, in a matter of minutes. The lives of celebrities are never private with the Internet. In addition, the author explains how there are still celebrities who have been good role models and impacted society positively.
Being a celebrity is not all it is cracked up to be. They have to deal with situations that the average citizen most likely cannot relate to. For example, many celebrities constantly encounter paparazzi who stalk them in order to take their picture, invading their privacy. Celebrities must also juggle demanding jobs, while maintaining a home life that many attempt to live as normally as possible. Celebrities lead busy, hectic lives that require them to appear in public frequently, exposing themselves to intense scrutiny; nonetheless, the private lives of celebrities should be off limits because everyone has a First Amendment right to privacy, it is invading their privacy not our business, causes different problems such as serious damage problems that might end up messing with their careers, and affecting family members in a negative way.
According to Deborah King's article, “The Impact Celebrities Have on Our Lives” she explains how people these days are celebrity obsessed. More specifically, people will stalk celebrities or do what they do. Case in King presents the following idea, “ For many people, not a day goes by when they don’t sneak a peek at their favorite celebrity gossip website” (section 1, paragraph 1). This reveals that some people go on websites that talk about celebrities almost everyday. People go on these websites to catch up on celebrities lives because of how much gossip is on the websites everyday. Sometimes this gossip may be false or a rum0or. One can infer that people who go on these websites like TMZ.com fall for these rumors and strart sto spread them more whe the whole situaltion was just a lie or a misunderstanding. One can also infer that the celebrity is upset or embarrassed because these rumors aren't true. Starting rumors about celebrities must have started because someone was stalking a celebrity which is basically being obsessed with
A group of people subject to continuous glamour and publicity has taken the spotlight, creating the American world of the “celebrity”. “It does not seem to matter what the man is the very best at; so long as he has won out in competition over all others, he is celebrated” (P. 74). Celebration is the basis of their existence. Propagated by the mass media, they have become part of the national prestige—shadow of money and power. This competition for attention is joined
Thar are some teens that have taken this celebrity thing way too far. “Teenscopy what a celebrities wear, and how they will act. Palmer doesn't have many strong supporting ideas.” In Palmers response he states, ¨We teenagers are passionate- maybe even obsessed- about our favorite stars, But that doesn't make it a big problem, and it doesn't mean we won't copy their bad behaviors people have been
Being a celebrity exposes them to the public, and many celebrities take advantage of this in many ways. from endorsing sportswear to sunglasses, sometimes you even see them supporting politicians. Regardless of their interest this is important because they are trusted by their fans and are believed to be a person with morals and integrity. Sometimes you can turn on
Teenagers are using celebrities such as Kylie Jenner, as idols, trying to copy them in all that they do. Most of the time it seems celebrities are not the greatest of role models for impressionable girls and boys, but whether Jenner is responsible for her negative influences on young people is debatable. She is famous and obviously sets standards in today’s society, but she is also a teenager herself, with little experience when it comes to obsessive fans.
Some of us would say “No”, but the majority of us would leap on the prospect of living the life of a celebrity. Who doesn’t want the perks of vacationing all over the world, having someone wait on you hand and foot, receiving freebies from designers and all the other perks that come with being a celebrity? The question is do we want the downfalls that come with fame? Can we handle vicious tabloid scrutiny, fabrications, and assumptions? Being a celebrity has its perks, but at what cost? Fame and money can be the root of all evil. Never the less, we are contributing to the madness when we purchase tabloid magazines, watch entertainment shows that follow celebrity activities and judge them for their actions.
Coming from the point of view of a teen who is also an avid fan of movies and TV shows, I believe that child stars have it rough. Just think about it. How many child stars that haven’t gone bad have you heard of? Not many, right? Look at Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Bynes, Shia LaBeouf, Macaulay Culkin, and Drew Barrymore. What do they all have in common you ask? Well the answer is that they all either took drugs, drank, and smoked starting from a young age. Drew Barrymore isn’t as bad as she was before, but did you know that she started smoking at the age of 9, drinking at the age of 11, and doing drugs at the age of 13? That’s crazy, right? I would imagine that they feel a lot of pressure as well because the public feels that these child stars have
Teens today have so many bad influences in their life such as negative role models. Celebrities
Celebrities are everywhere in the news, the latest gossip appears in the weekly magazines without fail. Whether they be an actor, athlete, dancer, designer, model, singer or just rich; there is someone out there who is watching that person like a hawk, not letting a single breath go unnoticed. Such is the life of the rich and famous, under the incessant gaze of journalists and the paparazzi. Lives that many people take a great interest in and admire to the point where others would liken this great interest and admiration to a cult-like worship of celebrities. This is a brief description of what I think to be celebrity culture.
As I read through this verbose chapter I began to pick up on the dominating themes of celebrity culture and their development over time. I consider myself somewhat of a celebrity super fan but as I read I realized I have never dove deeper into the meaning of celebrity but merely skimmed the surface. During my perusal of the chapter many thought-provoking concepts jumped out at me.
People were not exposed to barrage of news about celebrities a couple of decades ago. Mass media is becoming more garden because of rapid progress on technology day by day. Thereby, people are substantially interested in the private life of celebrities, and some of them are obsessed with celebrities. They desire to know everything about them. For instance, who is dating with whom, where they are shopping, or what they wear. In a word public have an endless hunger for more information. However, the public doesn't have the right to know about every single detail of celebrities' private lives due to several reasons.
