NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Centenary triathlon team completed its first meet of the season Monday, September 4, at the Central Regional Qualifier hosted by North Central College. The Ladies finished seventh overall and second among teams from NCAA Division III institutions. "This was a great season opener for our Ladies. I'm really proud of the effort everyone gave today," said head coach Kyle Joplin. "We're only a few weeks into training and this was a very challenging race. I can't wait for the next competition!" Senior Caitlyn Faulhaber was the top Centenary finisher in 1:11:56.7 to place 22nd. Sophomore Tori Boyle finished 29th with a time of 1:15:15.6. Sophomore Jessi Jordan rounded out the Ladies contingent, finishing 32nd with a time of
It was a moment that will be remembered in our country’s history for years to come. Oleksiak reached the halfway mark of the race in 7th place; it seemed all hope was lost for the 16-year-old. However, she then defied all odds, working her way up in the last 50m to tie American Simone Manuel for first place. She managed to defeat women of up to 28 years
“Final call girl’s four by eight-hundred-meter relay” called the official. The Ontario Track girl’s four by eight-meter team trooped up to lane one, in unison. I would not have wanted to be racing with anyone else but my relay family. We had trained all season for this one race. Every workout, asthma attack, tear, and shin splint has lead up to this one race to break a twenty year old school record. As we jogged with the official from the bullpen to the starting line, the crowd had uproars of excitement for the athletes. An immense smile grew across my face, not only from the ecstatic crowd, but from the anticipation to race. I approached the starting line, in the first lane, while my teammates arrayed along the fence with the other second,
I was an active member of the Varsity Swim team this year at School. I was swam 50 free, 50 back and in two relays. I personally came 8th in 50 back at the CISAA finals and our team was awarded CISAA Coed Champions
GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Ladies never trailed in an 8-3 win in game one, but Centenary (8-9, 2-4 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Southwestern (12-8, 2-4 SCAC) 13-1 (five innings) in the nightcap as the two teams split a double header Saturday afternoon, March 17.
After another weekend where the Gents swept an SCAC opponent, Centenary rose in all three polls. The American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate News poll moved the Maroon and White up to eighth from 12th, while Perfectgame (The only poll to have Centenary ranked all season) moved the Gents up a spot to 10th. Note: These polls do
Trailing 5-3 in the sixth inning, freshman Ashlin Roach and senior Brianna Williams doubled and singled to put runners on the corners and end the day for the Centenary starter, Haley Miller. Then, after a foul out, Matulis singled through the left side to make it a one-run game, scoring Roach. Next,
In page _____, (first page)it says, “, I’m the fastest and that goes for Gretchen, too, who has put out the tale that she is going to win the first-place medal this year. Ridiculous. In the second place, she’s got short legs. In the third place,
Centenary baseball will make its first NCAA Tournament appearance Thursday, May 18, at a site and time to be announced (most likely in Tyler, Texas). Location and playing time details will be released by the NCAA on May
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Ladies may have come up short in a bid to win the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, but the Maroon and White sure made their stay a memorable one.
“This recognition by the Southern Collegiate Athletic and Midwest Independent Conferences of nearly half of our student-athletes is testimony to their dedication to their academic programs and the support of the coaching staff and faculty of the college,” said Centenary Director of Athletics and Recreation, Dr. Bob Bunnell. “We are very proud of the culture of academic excellence that is a part of our athletic
“We’re beginning to get all of the rosters together and get the coaches lined up, so it’s starting to buzz and get exciting around here,” she said. “We offer several programs in the fall, so it seems like there’s always something going on.”
There are even girls watching the race, including Kelly Maccaluso, who calls me a brain when Miss Sametanger hands back our quizzes, and Colleen Mullen, whose house I’ll constantly ride by on my bike a few years from now, hoping to run into her. There are a lot of girls in this starting rush, which feels kinda weird, and as Hunter and I run towards the backstop, I try not to think why.
SHERMAN, Texas – After dropping a straight-set match to McMurry (2-0) 25-15, 25-17, 25-12, the Ladies rally fell short against Howard Payne (2-0) 25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 21-25, 15-13) as Centenary (0-2) dropped the first two matches of the season at the annual Austin College Classic Friday, September 1, in Sherman, Texas.
Yesterday marked my last collegiate XC 6k race as a Laker. It seems like yesterday I was told it was foolish of me going to the same college as my sister, Paige. I would have to say it is not foolish because I have had the opportunity to meet some amazing people along the way, and travel to many different states. I also have the privilege to be on a team where we were conference champs as well as national qualifiers. It was a great feeling to end the season with all-region although I did not have a personal record this year. Anyways, here is to track
