Canada, is well known for being immigration friendly over the course of history and it is an ideology that Canadians value. Immigration offers an opportunity for Canadians to seal in crevasses within the Canadian economy and stabilizes it from leaks which causes inflations and recessions. However, as opportunity presents itself, trade-offs are likely to follow. Today, Canadians are facing challenges regarding unemployment rates as well as increases in the cost of living. According to Collacott Martin, a senior at Fraser Institute who represented Canada in the department of external affairs, the housing prices are rising due to an increase in population among large cities in Canada. Collacott, predicted that newcomers of Canada cost between
In “Immigrants and Canadians, Maintaining Both Identities” by Andrew Cohen, which is part of a segment in the New York Times called “How Immigrants Come to Be Seen as Americans,” Cohen states that Canada is “…unlike virtually every country in Europe, we have no nativist party or institutional xenophobia,” and dubs Canada as a Mosaic of Multiculturalism. Why is this so, and how might the perspective that ‘Canada equals a mosaic’ play a role in this surprising phenomenon?
This article, Why Immigration is a chequebook issue, is written by David Olive, a writer in the business section of the Toronto Star. This article was written in October of 2015, which is just when the oil price, the backbone of Canada’s economy, began to fall. This implies that Olive’s article was created in order to bring up the issue of immigration and how it may have an impact in this crucial time of Canada's economy. Olive’s stance on the issue of immigration is that immigrants will make Canada more advanced economically and technologically. Throughout this article, Olive uses a positive tone toward immigrants, explaining how they will benefit Canada, through saying that immigrants are accountable for Canada's “unlikely high standard
Throughout the last three decades, increasing numbers of Asians have migrated to Canada from all over the Asian continent. Currently, 44% of the Vancouver area population is of Asian descent (Statistics Canada, 2001). Immigrants commonly occupy skilled job positions that the host nation is unable to fill with its own citizens, and thus they offer many advantages to their receiving country. In a nation with a declining birthrate, such as Canada, their contribution can play a major role on multiple levels. The immigrants themselves often enjoy a greater earning potential than they did in their native country, which can be advantageous for those who wish to send money back home to support their families.
Every year, newcomers arrive in Canada carrying colourful expectations and excitements. Their contribution to our population, national growth, and workforces are important. Currently, we are experiencing a decline in population. As a result, the capability of national growth decreases. As educated, financially qualified and employable immigrants enter Canada, our labour market earns a chance to improve. The distribution of potentials benefits immigrants and citizens, regarding our multiculturalism and economy. Canada needs immigrants as much as immigrants need Canada. Therefore, annual immigration levels in Canada must be increased. “Canada is an association of peoples who have, and cherish, great differences, but work together because they can respect themselves and each other,” (Massey).1
Each year lots of new migrants enter the Canadian economy therefore Canada has been classified as a multi cultural country, and due to this our citizens are more socially and globally aware of what is going on around them. Canada’s immigration Act and system helps our country be more culturally diverse, it increases economic growth, and make’s Canada a safer place to be which we can call our home. Along with new migrants coming every year, therefore ethnic communities are massively increasing by population and size.
Much of Canada’s economic success has been at the hands of immigrants and migrants. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Canadian government advertised free land to European farmers, in an attempt to persuade them to begin working in Canada. These immigrants went on to contribute to the country’s vast agriculture industry, which much of the economy is based on. Still to this day, people around the world look to Canada as the land of opportunity. Many immigrants and refugees choose Canada as their new home because of the job opportunities available to them. However, not everyone interested in working in the country is able to stay there permanently. Despite this, those still interested in working for Canadian businesses and companies may
Educational attainment is strongly connected with the children of immigrant’s success (Brown, 1997). In order to integrate successfully into the new society, newcomer youth indicated a strong interest in taking advantage of educational opportunities (Brown, 1997). The strong desire to belong to their new society was evidenced by the fact that the majority of youth wanted to take advantage of the educational opportunities offered in Canada (Anisef & Kilbride, 2003). Indeed, education was believed to be the single most important element that would determine a person’s success in Canada. Immigrant youth strongly believed that those who do not have an education are less likely to obtain a job because employers look for employees with a good education
Since 1867, Canada has had laws and regulations governing the admission of immigrants. Immigration legislation has evolved and changed over and over, which shaped by the shifting social, political and economic climate, as well as dominant beliefs about race, desirability and integration. In this essay I will discuss about how effective of both policy “head tax” and Japanese Interment”. Though the “Head tax” the Canadian government make the money and the Canadian government have no intention to keep the Chinese worker from immigration in which result in the discrimination problem. Second I will talk about Japanese internment, how the Canadian government forced relocation subjected Japanese Canadians to government enforced curfews and interrogations. Moreover, their jobs and property were removed and they were sent to internment camps. The “Japanese Interment” and “Head tax “were very effective. it totally change their lives which make them harder to live and not getting the respect. The Canadian government does not allow both Chinese Canadian or Japanese to work for high wage jobs and living without the family. It seems like all the actions are set to protect the country Canada but it some how against the human right the discrimination problem again not only the Chinese but also Japanese.
The level of immigrants coming to Canada should be increased because this way there won’t be any shortages in labour, new job opportunities will be opened up, and the economy will grow. Firstly, the levels of immigrants coming to Canada should be increased because there won't be any shortages in labour. There aren't enough skill trade labourers to get skill trade tasks completed, if Canada increases their immigrant level it enables Canada to bring in many different skill trade individuals. Company’s won’t have to shut down because there aren't enough labourers. In Addition, the level of immigrants coming to Canada should be increased because new job opportunities will be established. New immigrants will come to Canada and establish a variety
Immigration is just one of many critical components for Canada’s economic future and its immigration policies are centered primarily around humanitarian and economic concerns (Ansari, 2017). Canada requires that if you are to emigrate to its nation other than as a refugee, you must be a skilled worker or business person who will help build the economy. A system of points is utilized to distinguish applicants who qualify under these conditions from those who do not (Government of Canada: Immigration, 2017, July 20). Previously, the Canadian government also implemented a business immigration program that helped quicken the entry and permanent residency process for immigrants with business and/or management experience who were willing to make
There are various issues that revolve around Canadian politics. These issues can include various subjects, such as economics, multiculturalism, health care, immigration, and foreign policy. An important issue in Canada that is discussed in this essay is Canada’s constant changes to its immigration policy in order to improve its economic goals and the labour market. These issues are changing by different policies that the Canadian government are putting into place, which creates a more strict system in choosing who can immigrate into the country. Three articles that thoroughly analyze Canada’s immigration policy in order to implement these changes are the following. The first article is named: “New Directions in Immigration Policy: Canada’s

While other political parties believe in promoting strategies with extended benefits, such as reunification, as the engine and building blocks of long term economic growth. Many scholars and political watchers suggest that in recent years the changes to Canada’s immigration policy have become more sensitive to economic considerations over the past family-class models of immigration reflecting a more specific labour market
However, the employers do not represent the same progressive views and ideas. There is white ontology that limits access of the immigrants to workplace. As a matter of fact, Fanon suggests that the majority could limit minority in different ways, it could oppress it. (Fanon, 1952) At the same time, the minority, especially people of color, could not respond and react in the same way, as their rights and opportunities are limited. In the situation with the accent, the employers intentionally reject the applications based on immigrants’ language. However, the applicants could not change the decision of the employer, respond to it in any effective way. On the contrary, they have to just accept this as a reality. The immigrants are unfree and objectified
The plane’s wheels touched the ground, screeching triumphantly to a stop. Wide-eyed, I carefully pressed my face against the window, enchanted by the Qatari sunrise and beige sand dunes. Incredibly curious and enthusiastic to learn about my surroundings, I paid no heed to well-intentioned advice to stay within the comfortable surroundings of the compound. Whenever I did not have day trips planned or work to complete, I would make the twenty-minute walk to a small corner store nestled just outside a labour camp and get into conversation with the workers who were returning from their shifts. I was shocked to learn that they only had one day of rest a week, despite working close to twelve hours a day, and lived in overcrowded bunks that often lacked the necessary amenities. There was virtually no freedom of speech or freedom of association, and they risked losing their jobs and being sent home penniless if they dared to complain.
