We have some concerns with the dress code. We think it should be updated. Girls are not allowed to wear athletic shorts anymore yet guys wear them everyday and people seem to not have a problem with that. We understand that we need limitations but it seems that like the dress code is mainly targeted towards girls. The dress code says that shorts need to be mid thigh but it doesn't state that we cannot wear athletic shorts at all. We understand that some athletic shorts are short for school but we don't think that it should be prohibited. The temperature is going up as the school year goes on, so girls are going to want to wear athletic shorts so we can be well situated in the school day and we could be more focused. Getting pulled out of class
The clothing that some students are wearing is very distracting and affecting the learning of other students. Which is why in some dress codes, schools prohibit students from wearing shorts and dresses if not for a certain length requirement. When students are wearing inappropriate clothing it can get some students unfocused on the lesson. Others who disagree might say “Dress codes aren't fair to the students especially those that use their clothing as a way to express
Dress codes are not helping schools like they are meant to do; they are actually harming students in the school. Dress codes shame students and make them insecure about their bodies. They also disrupt precious class time that is vital to students. Buying clothes to fit the school dress code is costlier than some families can afford. Not only are dress codes stifling, but they are also unfair toward specific body types and different genders. Dress codes also decrease a student’s ability to be different from all of their peers in the way they dress. Schools should not have dress codes because they are sexist, unfair and disrupt class time.
If I could change the dress code, I would suggest getting uniforms because there would be less wasted time in the morning, no one would bully other students based on what he or she is wearing, and it would be unlikely anyone would need to change during the school day. Uniforms would benefit everyone in the school. Teachers wouldn’t argue with students about whether something is appropriate. Students would focus more on academics if there weren’t distracting clothes.
So my school has decided to change the dress code. They ask me what would I like to change and why.So I tell them they should let girls wear shorter outfits so girls could express themselves more and feel comfortable. Some may disagree with me some may not I don't care.Girls should be able to wear what they want and they shouldn't have to be stuck in jeans in the middle of summer during school it's unfair to us girls. We are in the 6th grade now we shouldn't have to be stuck with jeans or long outfits if we don't want to.What I am trying to say is what we wear tells people who we are and what we like to do it tells people a story like if you play sports or something someone can tell that about you by what you wear.
Schools make up reasons for why they enforce dress codes on the students. To list some, to keep students dressing modestly, stop teasing between students, boys become distracted, and
Uniforms have been around for centuries, from back in the day when women had to wear dresses or skirts and men had to wear pants. To now where students and employees have to wear certain pieces of clothing. People dress to express themselves, schools tell their students to be who they are and to be proud; however, when the student tries to do so they are sent home or held in the office which not only takes away their rights to express themselves, but takes them out of class. According to Friedrichs, “A shocking number of students are actually sent home or suspended for breaking dress code, which means even more time out of class.” A school's job is to prepare children for their futures, that can be quite hard when the student is not there to learn. Dress codes can be overwhelming to maintain. A student's wardrobe isn’t going to be full of polos and khakis because they most likely do not wear polos and khakis outside of school. Dress code should not be as strict, hoodies should be allowed, tank tops should be
One change i would recommend for the school dress code would be to let girls wear V neck shirts without a tank top. therefore Girls should be able to wear any type of shirt they want, without any problems. telling girls to cover up are saying to not be confident with their body. More people need to respect others body and not be so mean, Girls need to learn to feel confident with their body. With this being said Wearing V neck shirts that show a very little bit of skin or cleavage should not be a problem.
Let us begin with the obvious. Changing the dress code allows for kids to be comfortable wearing clothes. Many students will be able to move a lot better, not having to wear tight clothes. It also means that students can wear the clothes they have and not have to spend money on new clothes.
Why should schools modify their dress codes? All throughout the United States, schools have dress codes. Some dress codes have meaning full and low dress code rules, others have rules that make teens feel uncomfortable and get punished for. Daily students are judged on how they dress. Dealing with a dress code takes time and effort for a teen to understand why they are being punished.
The controversy about dress codes asks an important question: are dress codes targeting girls and transgender students? Several sites including:https://www.adl.org/education/resources/tools-and-strategies/table-talk/what's-fair-and-unfair-about-student-dress-codes, stated that when they spoke to girls they said they feel shamed and judged by dress codes. Are dress codes limiting students creativity. Should these girls really feel harassed men and boys at their school?
These dress codes only create problems for students. Fashion, style and kids taste in clothing is changing every day. Limiting a student's freedom of expression proves to be detrimental to students mental health and development. These changes in style should not dictate whether a student should be allowed in school wearing such attire. Detentions and suspensions are not the answer to breaches of dress codes. Allowing kids freedom of expression through clothing will make students happier and more self confident in how they act and what they do. The sooner kids find confidence in what they do, the better. It is high time for schools to revise these dress codes to be more suitable for kids of
Dress codes has been apart of the educational system for many years. Administrators have struggled to find effective ways to deal with discipline problems. The creation of the dress codes has been a common solution for many educational system to help decrease the number of disciplinary issues that are dealt with on a daily basis. Things such as gang activity, bullying, increasing violence can all be traced to the way people in school’s dress. The dress code policy is considered to be a "fix all" solution in many public schools, but has failed to resolve the big issues. Dress codes should not be instituted to fix a particular problem, but should be looked at to help overall school reform. This why most private schools have a particular uniform that students must wear every single day. To try and resolve the issue. However, a school uniform policy does not carry enough weight that produces a safe learning environment or helps students achieve their goals at being successful. A student's role is to come into school everyday to learn, without having to worry about gang activities, being bullying or having someone start a fight with them because they are wearing a particular color.
We should have dress codes because some people feel insecure about their appearances. If we start wearing inappropriate school clothes, such as shorts and tank tops then some people may feel insecure. They may not feel good about how they look and this could cause serious behavior problems and interfere with school work and socializing.
What would you do about changing your school dress code? If it was up to me, I would change how long your shorts have to be to wear them. All schools should have some type of dress code, but not a strict one. I believe that the shorts you wear should not be so short to show something of yours, but they don’t need to be so long, that they look like capris.
