Changing the World through Technology:
My Career as a Software Developer I must admit, becoming an engineer never happened to cross my mind at a younger age. I suppose it must have been the lack of female role models in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, or the lack of computer programming classes in our school district growing up. Always having an avid interest in the latest technology, hours upon hours were spent while growing up reading reviews for the latest gadgets and watching videos on tech websites like Engadget.com and technobuffalo.com. The idea of actually being able to make these gadgets work was not fully realized by me until an extremely influential visit to San Francisco, where I visited both Stanford

Although learning about materials was extremely fun, a stronger pull was felt towards Computer Science. The career path closest related to what I want to do, which is program iOS applications and be a software engineer for big companies, is to be a Software Developer. Although many people in the field of Software Development settle for a bachelor’s degree, my wish is expand my options by going on to pursue a masters specializing in a certain field of Software Development, as well as getting my Master’s of Business Administration at another reputable university. Software developers usually have a bachelor’s degree, typically in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. I am preparing for this career by heading to New York University in the fall, majoring in Computer Science in their Tandon School of Engineering. The biggest advantage I will have at this university over students at many other schools, is the amount of opportunities I will have for networking and internships, due to the proximity to some of the best tech companies in the world. Computer science degree programs are the most common for Software Developers, because they tend to cover a broad range of topics. Although writing code is not their first priority, developers must have a strong background in computer
As far as I could remember, I have always appreciated by education and wanted to thrive with it. When i was 8 I had the great idea of becoming a mechanical engineer at northwestern.
I believe engineering is the path to a better world. My interest in engineering really took hold when I joined the FIRST Robotics Club (Tractor Technicians) as a Sophomore and made the drive team: a drive team consists of four teammates who represent their club on the competition floor. We built, programmed, and tested our robot for months. The most incredible part of this experience was witnessing a single hand on a keyboard control our entire robot that I helped build. The intensity of the competition can be compared to that of a soccer game. However, instead of sprinting and kicking, we use our minds and engineering principles to analyze the situation and fix or improve issues that present themselves. Similarly, I would like to apply this trouble shooting mentality to more important issues. After robotics, I took the initiative to pursue an online computer science class. This class has proven to be more challenging than I anticipated, however, the growth I have seen in myself is exceptional. This rewarding experience has increased my interest in the field of engineering. I have also taken the opportunity to get real-world experience through a work study program in the IT/IS department on Kwajalein. I assist technicians in the field as we repair and replace computers and printers. These experiences and relationships have widened my perspective of the engineering and technology
Because of the people I chose to surround myself around, I found myself wanting to go into the field of engineering. My friends knew I had a passion for math and they suggested engineering as an occupation I should look into. As of result of that, I found myself getting into more hands-on projects in my last two years of high school, as well as taking an engineering focused course in high school to try it out. I fell in love with the career path and since then, I aspire to become an
I have chosen to pursue a career in computer science, because it has been a heavy influence on me throughout my life. All my life I have been surrounded by technology, almost more than half of my family has a career in the IT field, which is what sparked my interest. My earliest memory of when I first became interested was when I was about 6 and my mother bought me a phonics dog, and I was more interested in how it worked rather than what it did. I then saw the screw bolts and knew if I used a screwdriver I could see the inside of the toy so I opened it, and from then on I knew I was interested in technology. In middle school was when I first took my actual dive into the IT world and I learned there are different computer languages, and about different devices used in the tech world. Also I
During the summer of my tenth grade year, I interned at Accenture, a consulting firm, where I repaired computers and resolved any software issues. At first I started opening and and exploring parts of retired dell laptops. As I became more proficient, I was able to help clients fix PC issues such as broken screens, replacing RAM, and transferring data from the hard drives to another computer. This internship inspired me to consider the Technology industry as a possible career. Taking into consideration the broad range of possible career paths in technology, I decided to major in Computer Science once I get to college.
Before being introduced into the medical field, I had always seen myself as an engineer. Growing up I was fascinated by how everything worked. When something would break down I would be the first with a screw driver in my hand ready to take it apart. Of course being at such a young age, I would often worsen the situation than fix it, but the thrill and excitement from fixing a broken object meant the world to me. I thought becoming an engineer was my lifelong passion.
Lastly, I have a desire to have a career as a software developer after I have completed my studies. This will ensure that I have learnt new possessions continuously and become aware of the updated technologies. After completing my degree, I would be provided the perfect platform to help me to excel in my career. Computer Science provides with self-assessments which allows the learner with options to work intellectually, therefore a course such as this, would be excellent.
Becoming an engineer in this field would let me help innovate smarter, faster, and most importantly, cheaper technologies that could be distributed throughout the community to help better lives by letting people experience the global network and have a proper education when they normally wouldn’t be able to. A couple ways I could help the community using computers include designing educational software and distributing more affordable computers to schools and homes in need.
I am an African American female who is determined to pursue interest in the technology field. I have overcome many barriers as a young minority female from a single parent home. I know that this field requires creativity, hard work, self-direction, and research. I am highly motivated, confident, thorough, efficient, and reliable. I am excited that technology use is the impetus of one’s everyday communication.
Since I was little, I’ve always been good with technology. As a child, I would teach adults how to use their phone even if it was my first time holding the device. By giving me a few minutes, I could tell completely analyze a phone tell the owner how it works and such. That talent later developed my inspiration to become an electrical engineer that dealt with hardware and software that were used in phones and video games. This dream also led me to apply at a math and science school, GSMST. However it all changed in my first year there and it forever changed me.
In Life there are roads and there are choices. The right or left turn you make along the winding path throughout your life is and should be the one that makes you happy. Furthering your education may be your best and only way to make that right decision. At the present moment I am now currently attending Valencia Community College working towards my Associate Degree in Computer Science. My current major is Computer Science, although Computer Engineering with a focus in Software is what I will most likely pursue as my Bachelor of Arts (BA). Computer Science/Engineering is one of the most popular and fastest growing careers today. Today, computers are used in almost every aspect of our lives: in car
My family has always emphasized education. Both my mother and father are engineers. Discussions of technology and problem solving technical issues are common topics of conversation in our home. This has highly influenced me and led to my desire to pursue a degree in engineering.
As long I can remember, my parents believed education was key to everything great in life. I grew up in a small town in Girgi, Ethiopian. My father was the only electrician in the neighborhood. He was the person that everyone would come to when they needed any electronic devices to be fixed. It was very exciting when someone brings there broken divice to our house. I vividly remember many nights that we spend fixing up TV’s, VHS and DVD players. I used to think that it was very interesting looking at the circuit boards wondering what any of the colorful doted do, and how can makes up to a TV or radio. Thus, when the time comes to choose a major that I wanted pursue, it was an easy decision for me. The first time that I had the chance to learn about it was my first two months of college in Ethiopia, but it was short lived because my family had the opportunity to come to America for a better life.
Throughout my life I have always wanted to be an engineer, my parents are both electrical engineers. I would I have always found math and most
While majoring in computer science will give me many number of job choices, I have the goal of becoming a software engineer and maybe owning my own business in the field of computer science. I believe that I will be able to obtain my desired career choices with a combination of hard work and passion for what I am doing. I already have a strong passion for programming and I feel that majoring in computer science will only feed my passion even more. I also have a desire to start my own business that is involved with computer science. I know that these goals are hard to achieve, but I know I will work hard and work intelligently to obtain my
