A problem with changing the time that schools starts is parent work schedules. When school starts at 7:30, most parents can see their kids before they go to school. If that time was changed, most parents won't be able to still drive their kids to school and get to work on time. A main a problem for parents of young children, who need supervision while getting ready for school and waiting for the bus. For teenagers, later starting time may lead to more responsibility such as getting themselves up on their own and getting their own breakfast.
Another issue is bus schedules and other transportation. Lots of school districts use the same buses to get the elementary and high school students. Delayed school times would affect this because if the same bus driver drops students off at the high school and then has to pick up elementary school students. Schools would have to delay both high school times and all elementary schools times or maybe get more buses to drive the elementary school students.

If school times are later, that means that these activities would go later into the day. This would make it difficult for students to participate and still have enough time to study, finish homework, participate in social activities, get to work on time and still get to bed at a decent
First of all, kids will be more energized and be more academically advanced if school starts are pushed back. According to, “Should School Start Later” “Studies show that well rested teens get better grades, have higher standardized test scores, and miss fewer days of school. They also have a lower risk of being in car accidents and have fewer health problems such as depression, mood changes, and being overweight.” Many schools start before 7:45 a.m. and have tired students not putting forth their best efforts while 40 percent of American High Schools start classes past 8 a.m. The schools with later starts
The one reason why schools should stay at the same times is because Students who participate in sports, or other extracurricular activities typically meet for several hours after school. If school times are later, that means that these activities would continue later on in the day. This would make it difficult for students to participate and still have enough time to study, finish homework, participate in social activities, get to work on time and still get to bed at a decent
Everyone has always hated getting up super early to go to school. As children get older they move to different schools, from elementary to middle to high school, and the start times get earlier. In elementary school it was never a problem getting up but getting older, it always got harder to get up and the days were always longer. Schools start so early in the morning that it is hard to focus and students tend to miss more of their earlier classes and attend all of their later classes. Schools everywhere should start later because it would benefit the students and teachers.
The students at middle school south lake Zurich Illinois would like later start times. It won't cost much, and benefits the students and teachers. However, there are some problems. There are many learning benefits that go along with later start times. Such as, less vehicle accidents in the morning, depressed students, and obesity. Because of later start times After school activities, sporting events, and families, could all be affected in a negative way. If district 95 starts later district 95 ends later and people have to be home early. Later start times might cost some money but not a lot. Stevenson high school didn't pay that much. But imagine this: Students might not even have to have an alarm
Typically, people enjoy receiving an extra hour of sleep, even an extra five minutes of sleep. Teens are just one group of people who enjoy sleep. Unfortunately, teens are unable to obtain the correct number of hours per night. Later school start times would be beneficial because the schools would see an impact on attendance, increased school performance, and based on several studies, students would receive the recommended amount of sleep. The psychological effects would greatly outweigh the negative effects caused by an early start time. Benefits of a later start time include, better health, improved grades and teens reaching the recommended amount of sleep per night. Downfalls of starting school later would be transportation issues, coddling
Transportation is a major issue that would be impacted by a later school start time. For many school districts, including my own, buses are reused for the elementary and high school students. The problem with shared buses is that if the high school start time changes, so would the elementary start time. Elementary students
Changing school start times will increase attendance and money brought in. Changing the times could increase attendance by 1%, which could bring in $40 million more.(Lewis) In Bonneville, Idaho the school started later in the day which resulted in absences dropping 15%. In the Article by Lisa Lewis, it also talks about how delaying school by 1 hour “produces the same benefit as shrinking class size by one-third or replacing a teacher in the 50th percentile of effectiveness with one in the 84th percentile.”(Lewis)
School start times should be later because school times should revolve around the student’s best ability to learn. When America started public schools, they had the same time frame, around seven to three. They did this so the farmers would have time to go and work in the afternoon. Well, needless to say we still have the same schedule now, with a much different industry and way of life. There are countless reasons schools should start later and countless studies that prove school should start later. I think some of the more important reasons include, a teen’s biological clock that makes their brain want to go to bed and get up late, car crashes caused by sleep deprivation and more sleep increasing concentration, alertness and a better attitude in class
Schools should start later because students need more time to rest in the morning. Some reasons also show that it will mess up schedules. With more rest comes more energy and with more energy comes better grades. Studies have shown that schools that start later often have better performing students.
Starting school at later times makes students more likely to pay attention in class. The California Academy of Sciences says, ¨Studies have shown that middle and high school students with adequate amounts of sleep, 8-10 hours, have better test scores. ¨ Since students do not get enough sleep, it would be very beneficial to start school at later times, since they would fall asleep with the correct amount of sleep. To add on to this reason, Diana Zuckerman Ph.D. says, ¨In order to compensate for the later start time, the school cut 5-10 minutes of every class and activity. The change meant students had slightly less time in the classroom, but the tradeoff was improved attention during the school day.¨ Although starting classes at later times
Since the young adults have a tendency for not being able to sleep until later, on average, the young adults only get about 7 to 7 ½ hours of sleep, when in reality they need 9 to 9 ½ hours of sleep. With school starting early in the morning around 7:00 AM, adolescents are required to wake up around 5:00 AM, so they have time for getting ready, and for traveling. If school were to start later, it would greatly benefit the students. It would behoove the students if they could get more hours of sleep. Seeing that school were to start later, the car incident rates would decline, their attitude would improve, students would be more attentive, perform better
Have you ever had to go to sleep early because you had something important the next day and you needed a good night's sleep? Schools are starting later and later as researchers are saying that kids perform better when they get more sleep. There a a lot of reasons to support this, one is that it has been proven that kids do better on tests and quizzes following a good night’s sleep. School starting later could help with child obesity. It has been proven that when school starts later that there is improved attendance, graduation rates, and reduced car crash rates. School starting later would benefit the teachers and staff as well. The graduation rate alone is one very good reason for school to start later. School should start at at least 9:00.
Many parents rely on their older children in high school to pick up their little kids from school. This becomes a problem when high school students get out later than middle and elementary school students because the pickup arrangement is altered. According to the article, Manassas pushes back high school start times by 50 minutes (Posted 2014-04-30 01:43:00): School board decision comes in wake of studies showing improved performance with later start times, bus schedules had to be changed. This affects the younger students bus times as well because the buses are used for elementary and middle school as well as high school. Although this seems like it would be a significant change in children's days, it is important for children to learn flexibility for when they grow older.
Opinions about schools starting time differ all over the United States. Many districts around the United States are trying to start a movement to have school start later than they usually do. 70 districts across the nation are going to start at 8:45. If this happens, it can change the schedules of a big amount of students tremendously. In the article on Newsela, facts are stated about how lots of schools use scientists advice for when they should start school. Based on the article titled, ¨More zzz’s can lead to more A’s: Seattle Schools Move Start Time for Teens¨, one believes that Beaumont High School should not change the start time to begin class later due to transportation, sports’ schedules, and the late dismissal.
In my opinion school, starting early will continue to be a serious problem unless we switch school hours with the elementary schools. Middle school students are falling asleep in class and not doing well on tests. Elementary students already have too much energy and are becoming reckless. If we put this plan into action, elementary students will be calmer in less wild in class, which will satisfy the teachers. The middle schoolers will be more alert in class and will represent Sioux City in a new light. Starting school too early or too late is affecting the children in the school district; we should swap school hours with the elementary
