Chapter 11-13 1. Parenting is basically the utmost long-term establishment. Specifically, parenting or child rearing is the method of encouraging and sustaining the physical, emotional, social, financial, and intellectual growth of a child from birth to adulthood. Basically, there are four major recognized parenting styles in psychology. These are: a. Authoritative: This is considered widely as the most successful and favorable type of parenting style for average children. Authoritative parenting generates the conducive environment for a growing child and helps to encourage/ foster a fruitful relationship between parent and child. Also, authoritative parents are easy to identify due to the high anticipation/ expectations they have for their children, but they condition these expectations with understanding towards reinforcing their children. b. Neglectful: it is one of the most harmful style of parenting that can be used on a child. The concrete operational stage occurs between the ages of 7 to 11years.This period spans the time of middle childhood and is characterized by the development of logical thought. While kids at this age become more logical about concrete and specific things, they still struggle with abstract ideas. Piaget determined that children in the concrete operational stage were fairly good at the use of inductive logic. Which involves going from a specific experience to a general principle. On the other hand, children at this age have difficulty using deductive logic which involves using a general principle to determine the outcome of a specific event.
