Chapter 3, was one of most helpful chapters, it was achieving your purpose for reading. Chapter 3 helped me get involve with my readings by annotating the text and developing questions within the text while I am actively engaging with my studies. Also, this chapter showed me different note taking styles which are mind mapping, outline, SQ3R, and Cornell notes. I can make a mixture of these note taking styles to my preference. Chapter 7 is another useful resource, this chapter discuss thinking clearly and communicating your ideas. One key aspect is presentation skills; able to deliver your message with the audience by giving a hook at the start of the presentation in order to grab the audiences ' attention, then develop the ideas with supportive facts and appealing stories. After that, finish it off with memorable conclusion about the key points of the presentation. Another presentation skill that I use is practicing the speech about the presentation, once you feel well prepared to present in front of the audience. Flash cards are great way to figure out where I left off on the speech. Chapter 10, I found it refreshing by the tips of choosing a major such as considering my abilities and values, make a trail choice of my top three majors, then evaluate the trail choice by enrolling in related classes from the top three, and repeat again with different major. These trail choices opened my eyes figuring out what major I would want to do and what are my interests that
I"The Importance of the Act of Reading" by Paulo Freire, describes the importance of the act of reading beyond numerous experiences in his life as a child, a teenager, and an adult. Freire begins his article by taking readers back to where he was born, in his home city Recife, Brazil. He uses very itemized imagery to describe the trees, the house and the atmosphere of where he grew up and how the text, words, and letters were incarnated in the series of things, objects, and signs. He describes the trees, the house and the atmosphere of where he grew up and how the text, words, and letters were incarnated in the series of things, objects, and
According to “Why We Read: The University, the Humanities, and the Province of Literature," Richter illustrates why literature should be studied in the first place. David Richter is an English professor who was very dedicated to his job. In this article, he had five section: English Literature as an Object of Study, The Era of Grand Theory and Cultural Wars, Reading Liberation; Teaching as a Propaganda, The Function of English at the Present Time and After the Culture Wars: The Problem of Disciplinary. The founder of English Adam Smith was not English at all but a Scottish polymath who taught English lectures in 1748 and 1751. The author goes on to explain all the knowledge about how literature became so important. He used those reference

What study tips described in the text can you incorporate into your study efforts? (SQ3R) Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review. I prioritize each upcoming exam and the supporting materials, including the assigned chapters. I take advantage of the instructor’s office hours and asking, “which material is most important for me to learn?” If that information wasn’t communicated in class hours. Also, I have completed the practice questions/test and I read the summary at the end of the chapter. I Incorporated index cards to help me understand and remember the chapter’s glossary terms. If I use these tips, I usually do well on my exams.
State three or four of the most important points from these readings in your own, succinct phrasing.
1) One of the aspects I really enjoyed for this chapter is it is all about different ways writing can be used besides writing an essay paper in High school. I remember in high school how if I had to type a paper or write a paper how I hated it because you had to go through the process of writing and analyzing a paper and it always had to be 3 pages long. Chapter 2 is all about taking your students write more, which I thought would be a horrible idea, but have them write different things besides an essay paper.
More effective the presentation more will be the chances of selection of your idea. Presentation does not include only words you speak but it also include how you deliver them. Tone, gestures and confidence plays crucial role in presentation. Everyone gets nervous during presentation but effective communicator have ability to show appropriate behavior according to the situation (Interpersonal skills). During my presentation cultural sensitivity was the issue as I did not show it. I am an international student, I have different accent and I speak English little faster than normal. Because of that sometimes audience could not understand what I speak. But to become an effective communicator I have to adjust myself according to this new
If you couldn’t read or write, how would you tackle your daily life? Being literate is a crucial part of everyone’s life; reading and writing are essential for a person’s success. Every single day, it’s used, whether it’s for an Advanced Placement Language class or reading a billboard as you’re driving past. As a child, I grew up reading on a daily basis and I believe that I am as successful as I am on behalf of it. Countless memories have been created, thanks to the multiple books that have been read and the umpteen amount of papers that I’ve written. Throughout the numerous years of my education, my teachers and parents left a long lasting impact on my reading and writing skills.
* Do a first reading that uses underlining, annotation, and summary to make sure you understand what the writer is saying. Go back to any sections that need clarification.
Personally I thought this chapter was a headache. I constantly had to read a page and then reread it. A lot of this information I have head from previous psychology classes, but just reading it was harder to understand rather than having an instructor teach it. I pretty much highlighted the whole book because I thought it was all-important.
Kozol notes discrepancies in the education system, especially while focusing on schools with student bodies of different races and economic backgrounds. In fact, he conducts numerous studies with regard to disparities in schooling, which can be seen across regions that differ in their racial composition and wealth. For instance, he makes various observations in Washington D.C., Chicago, New York, and Cincinnati, which reveal the extent of disunity in the learning structure throughout the nation. Kozol’s findings provide a key insight, namely that the inconsistencies in the education system ultimately translate into vast disparities among students’ individual contributions to the society once they finish school. Ideally, the education system should offer everyone equal opportunities to best discover their talent and potential, allowing them to become productive members of society. However, in reality there exists a lot of unpredictability in the education system across the United States, which results in students being nurtured in dissimilar environments with vast discrepancies in the quality and cost of their schooling (Kozol 11). For instance, some of the schools in New Jersey are reportedly spending the lowest per capita amount of $3,000 on their students, whereas some schools spend up to $15,000 in Long Island. Such variations in raw expenditure cannot reasonably be expected to result in the

In chapter one and two we learned about IT careers and Internet Communication. The first chapter had gone into detail about what kind of jobs I could take in the IT department and how I could get there. Chapter one is a very useful chapter in learning how to prepare myself for any job that
