Prior to the Civil War during the Napoleonic era, artillery was a smoothbore weapon system primarily forged with bronze. These systems were very large, cumbersome, horse drawn and difficult to move into battle. However, near the end of the Napoleonic Era the Gribeauval system would improve cannon systems by casting them out of a solid piece of bronze, and boring out the center. This new Napoleonic invention increased range and accuracy, ultimately, establishing the cornerstone of rifled artillery.1

After graduating from Ashford University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development; , I am hoping to obtain a job working in the Public school system alongside the Pre-k teachers in implementing programs for Pre-k or become an owner of a childcare center. How has this class experience enhanced your ability to communicate visually? How are you more visually literate?

The 1853 Enfield Rifle-Musket, a 1,400-millimeter gun that can fire up to 1,250 yards with a muzzle velocity of 430 meters per second, is essential to be known how to be used by all real men. Fortunately, it’s easy to handle if you follow a few precise steps. First, you must start off by gathering all the materials needed to load this carbine rifle. These materials include a rifle musket, percussion cap, ramrod, and a paper cartridge, and a .58-caliber miniature ball. Then, you tear open the paper cartridge, either by hand or with your teeth, and disperse the powder down the barrel. After this, you must take out the miniature ball from inside the paper cartridge and place it securely into the barrel of the rifle. Once this action is complete, you take out your ramrod and force the ball far down the barrel; this will put the ball alongside the power. Next, grab your percussion cap and sturdily place it on the nipple of your Enfield. This will allow for sparks to enkindle the powder once the cap is battered. Now you’re almost ready to fire! All you have left to do is cock your 1853 Enfield Rifle-Musket back as far as possible and pull the trigger.

The “King of Battle” is becoming a better king. The overall progression in the U.S. Army has been rapid to say the least. With every new battle, the Field Artillery has brought something new and important to that table. Paving the way to the accurate and predicted fires that we have in today’s Artillery world. We will shine light on key events throughout the history of the Field Artillery, leading up to Current technology and training goals. You will have a vastly greater knowledge of how the Field Artillery came to be what it currently is.

In this short paper I will go over my thoughts on this week’s assigned course reading. This week we were instructed to read Chapter Four of the FTA 215 course text. This chapter covered Tools, Maintenance, and Repair of the AR-15 platform rifle.

The next big improvement came with the change from the 58 caliber rifle musket to the .45 caliber Model in 1884 which was quickly replaced by The Model 1896 Krag-Jorgensen carbine in 1896. In this short paper I will cover my thoughts on the article provided for this week’s article summary, “Slow Rust Bluing: Science or Alchemy, American Gunsmith March 2009, by Dan Herman.” It’s not all that often that I’m eager to read one of these articles we’re given for article summaries. The bluing process interests me immensely, and I can’t wait to get to a point where I can re-blue a firearm to see how badly I do on my first job…lol.
