Samuel chapter 4
Now the Israelites went out to fight against the Philistines. The Israelites camped at Ebenezer, and the Philistines at Aphek. The Philistines deployed their forces to meet Israel, and as the battle spread, Israel was defeated by the Philistines, who killed about four thousand of them on the battlefield. When the soldiers returned to camp, the elders of Israel asked, “Why did Hashem let us get defeat ? Let us bring the ark of Hasham covenant from Shiloh, so that he may go with us and save us of our enemies.”
So the people sent men to Shiloh, and they brought back the ark of the covenant of Hashem , who is enthroned between the cherubim. And Eliʼs two sons, Hophni and Phinehas,

He told Eli, “I have just come from the battle line; I ran from this day.”
Eli asked, “What happened, my son?”
The man who brought the news replied, “Israel fled before the Philistines, and the army has suffered heavy losses. Also your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been captured.”
When he mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell backward off his chair by the side of the gate. His neck was broken and he died, for he was an old man, and he was heavy. He had led Israel forty years.
His daughter-in-law, the wife of Phinehas, was pregnant and near the time of delivery. When she heard the news that the ark of Hesham had been captured and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she went into labor and gave birth, but was overcome by her labor pains. As she was dying, the women attending her said, “Donʼt despair; you have given birth to a son.” But she did not respond or pay any attention.
She named the boy Ichabod, saying, “The Glory has departed from Israel”—because of the capture of the ark of God and the deaths of her father-in-law and her husband. She said, “The Glory has departed from Israel, for the ark of God has been
Only Joshua sided with Caleb. Both of them tore their clothes in anger before the assembled crowd saying, "The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good. If the Lord is pleased with us he will lead us into that land and give it to us. Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of the people of the land." But the Israelites had already forgotten God 's promise and angrily threw stones at them. Consequently, that rebellious and sinful generation of Israelites found only death in the desert.
They remembered everything their mom did, as well as everything that their dad and the angels did. Their anger built inside them, the more they thought about it, the more they began to loathe their father for offering them to strangers of Sodom, allowing the strangers to do as they had pleased with them. The daughters decided that the only way to punish their father, knowing that their father was old and would likely die before they left, was to ruin his name. They made their father drink wine, and waited until he drank himself to sleep. Once he had fallen asleep, the older daughter joined her father in bed. She lied with her father, in hopes of conceiving a child with him; the only way that they could ruin their father was to ruin the name he left behind. The next morning, she went to her sister, “Look, I lay last night with my father; let us make him drink wine tonight also; then you go in and lie with him, so that we may preserve offspring through our father.” The daughters were successful, both having conceived a child with their father. In order to prevent any questioning of the origin of their children, the daughters named their sons Moab, ancestor of the Moabites, and Ben-ammi, ancestor of the Ammonites. The daughters had done everything they could to ensure that their father was ruined, but they did not realize the wrath their descendants would
‘So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the
God had raised her up to do His will. To be a spokeswoman to the Children of Israel; to relay top them the Word of God.
Although, the Lord had delivered the nation of Israel on several occasions, they had gotten careless and sinful again; therefore,
Joshua said goodbye and went away. Jordan went to his sister who was a year older than he was and told her all that the warrior Joshua told him. And, Anna told their mother. Their mother said that warrior Joshua was correct.
The Philistines return the ark of the covenant to Israel with a peace offering inside of it.
The new pharaoh of Egypt grew wary of the ever growing number of Israelites. In order to stop any possible uprising, the pharaoh enslaved the Israelites, forcing them into “hard bondage, in mortar, and in brick” (Exodus 1:14). After enslaving the Israelites, the pharaoh decreed that all male children born to Israeli women were to be killed. Moses, a prince of Egypt and secretly an Israeli by birth, attempted to free the Israelites by talking to the pharaoh. After all attempts at negotiation fail, Moses leads the Israelites on a mass exodus from Egypt. Upon reaching the Red Sea, “Moses stretched out his hands over the sea… and the waters were divided” (Exodus 14:21) allowing the Israelites passage through the sea. The Egyptians pursue, and “the Lord overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea” (Exodus 14:27). Thus the Israelites escape bondage and destroy the superior Egyptian army. The Israelites move from being a weak nation, in servitude to the powerful Egyptians, to one that, with the help of God, evades and destroys the Egyptian army. God’s chosen people grow in strength and move towards occupying their own
Kings everywhere came together in a united effort to stop God 's people from entering into their country. Instead their defiance of God 's will was met with utter devastation. No one could stand up to the power behind the Israelite army.
The history of Israel is full of Patriarchal stories with a few less matriarchal stories. It could be said that women did not hold as high of a place as men in the ANE time, but there is one woman’s story that holds a significant amount of weight to the construction of an astounding prophet of Israel named Samuel, his mother’s name was Hannah. Although Hannah did not have a voice in her society or the polygamous familial situation she was in, God was able to subjectively liberate her- giving her a standing relationship with him, and with her newfound voice she co-raised an incredible son with God. I will review Hannah’s position in her story through her polygamous relationship, a wife who was ‘loved’ but barren, and how she
The Israelites promised “All that the Lord has spoken, we will do” (Exodus 19:8). God had freed them from the bondage of the Pharaoh in Egypt. By the hands of Moses and Aaron God led them out of Egypt and away from the slave masters. God had richly blessed the Children of Israel; nonetheless, they forgot Him.
The Lord reminds Moses that Israel has seen these awesome acts the Lord has done for them. The Lord has committed acts such as freeing the Israelites from their slavery and unjust treatment in Egypt, guiding them away from their captors towards safety and then sending them to the land the Lord that was sworn to their ancestors. The Lord reminds the Israelites that the covenant was first started with Abraham, an ancestor of the Israelites, and how Abraham and his family originally journeyed to Egypt with only seventy other people. However, thanks to the power of the Lord he has made Abraham’s descendants as numerous as the stars in heaven. A promise that was included in the first covenant between Abraham and the
The Old Covenant is a compilation of testimonies and instructions given to all of Israel. They had been instructed by God’s servants and had witnessed numerous divine miracles from God, yet they failed to live up to their end of the bargain. This overview will show us a pattern of human failings and God’s plan of redemption.
Then the mighty man God, himself, took away bread and water from Jerusalem and Judah. Citizens tried ponding off the leader position on anyone who would claim in, but the people knew that the land was cursed and oppressed; there was nothing they could do but pray and ask for Gods forgiveness. The lord then said he would strike on the daughters of Zion, for that they had sinned. God did not appreciate they way they acted with

In order to ensure protection of the tablets and to allow them to be transported, a wooden chest consisting of elegant decorations was constructed. The chest was two feet wide, three-and-a-half feet long, with two poles attached through gold rings on its sides. The lid which was referred to as the atonement cover, or 'mercy seat' had two carved angels which sat on top. Accompanying Moses and the Israelite's on their search for the promised land, the chest brought victory for them wherever they went.
