PB1: The plot is a major theme of survival as most of the story is about it. In chapter 4 most of the plot was to keep Bibi alive when she steps on the mine as quote “your stepped stupid sister, step on a mine “this show shows the plot is about survival as Bibi tries to survive the potently explosive mine. On page 32 the Jamal parents had to “pack up and leave right now” as they are now fugitives of the government. This shows that the plot conveys a survival element to the plot, as the family has to survive the government. At each point of the plot the character is always trying to survive these events.

He told his friends there was a shark in the water and no one believed him. That’s when he got injured. There was also 4 shark attacks reported around the same time also.

This theme is shown throughout the book when Kira is the only one alive in her family, Anabella passes away, and even when Matt was lost. Another theme could be trust your instincts. The first chapter of Braving the Wilderness is Everywhere and Nowhere. This chapter is about her family and her life as a teenager. The main topic is that we do numerous things with torment to not feel it. We numb or deliver it on others, we deny it or pass it onto friends and family, or we discover empathy for ourselves and claim the agony. In chapter 2 of Braving the Wilderness, she talks about the political atmosphere and how it is like a battle zone. She also defines belonging on page 31. It says belonging is the innate human desire to be part of something larger than us. I can relate to wanting to belong especially in high school. When people read “Angela's Ashes” by Frank McCourt, and “The Street” by Ann Petry, they can probably sense that there is something similar among the two stories', and that's because they share a common theme. The theme is how people can persevere through problems that they encounter. The reader will discover this similar theme of persevering through problems with the way the authors utilize the character of characters feelings and personality, the way setting creates a backdrop that establishes the tone of the story, and events that cause conflict to the character.
