Suffering happens in many places of the world today.People are suffering from starvation or health issues. In Fever 1793 by, Laurie Halse Anderson, the author illustrates of things going wrong during a time of need.In this story there is a fourteen year old named Mattie Cook, who has a family of 3.She begins to suffer during the time of the fever in Philadelphia, such as when her friend polly died and her mother became ill, when she gets the fever and grandfather dies, and when Eliza’s 2 nephews and Nell get the fever. This story suggests that during a time of suffering, the more help we give the more responsible we become.
In this chapter it talks about how Catherine LeMaigre was dying, and dying horribly and painfully. The two physicians sent for their esteemed colleague Dr. Benjamin Rush. They were trying to find out if they could stop the plague from spreading.
1] The fever caught us all by surprise, every day more citizens will become ill, we lost countless loved ones.It seemed like the end of the world though we did not surrender. We worked with each other and after a long wait, we brought Philadelphia back to its original state.
Fever 1793 is a novel about a fourteen-year-old girl named Matilda “Mattie” Cook who comes of age during the crazy yellow fever epidemic in Philadelphia in 1793. Matilda’s family has a free slave because her husband paid to get her free and she is now saving up her money to free her husband. Then later her husband died. Matilda’s father died so Matilda, her mom, and her grandfather all live together. Matilda in the book is a normal teenager, for the most part at least. Matilda’s body is changing, some are because of hormones but not all, she does not like the sound of her mom’s voice, and she also has a crush on a boy named Nathaniel Benson. Nathaniel Benson is also a painter. The outbreak of yellow fever creates a dire situation,
Laurie Halse Anderson masterfully tells the story of Mattie Cook and her family’s struggles though the Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1793. While Mattie and her family are fictional characters, the epidemic which struck Philadelphia was quite real. Based on what I have read so far in the novel, Fever 18793, I believe it is reasonable to infer that Matte’s mother will die or may even be dead already, but Mattie does not know it yet Lucille, Mattie’s mother, definitely has yellow fever. In Chapter 10, Dr. Kerr visits Mattie’s mother and tells her, “Autumnal fever indeed. Your mother has yellow fever. There’s no double at all” (Anderson 71). The reader clearly knows that yellow fever has proven deadly for many Philadelphia

Fever,1793 by Laurie Hale’s Anderson is a historical fiction book about yellow fever. Fever is about a girl named Mattie and her family, and how the get through the pestilence. The reader, believes the theme is to never give up, even in the hard times. The reasons why the reader believes this is the theme, is because perseverance can help you survive through the hard times, even when it would be easier to give up its better to persevere, and when you persevere you reach your goals.
The vulnerable people of Philadelphia were surrounded by endurable humidity and heat, during the terrible epidemic in the summer of 1793. Philadelphia had faced, many fever infected mosquitoes, and dry weather causing the historical event from the book Fever 1793. When reading this book, I learned many devastating and almost unreal historical facts about the yellow fever outbreak in 1793 which include the statistics, life during fever and symptoms, and lastly, cures for the fever. These serious and unpleasant facts are unbelievably real and they should be shared.
Yellow Fever blew through Philadelphia like a huge tornado storm, killing people one by one as it goes by in summer 1793. Over 5000 were killed by this deadly disease that many know as Yellow Fever. Many might be wondering how this disease came to be what it is today. It forms by one little mosquito bite on your body that injects the “poison” like substance. These mosquitos came from the forgein ships that came to Philadelphia in 1793.The “treatment” that they believe in to cure this fever was pretty odd.
It’s clear to see that 1793 has been a rough year for America and all of the world. France has lost its King, Europe is at war, and America has suffered an epidemic that has claimed more than 5,000 people. It's so peculiar that the year went so bad, but started so well when we touched the heavens.
Yellow fever came in like a wrecking ball, across Philadelphia, wiping out everyone in it’s path. American and French doctors' are finding out cures to save the infected victims. In Philadelphia of 1793, around 2,000-5,000 people were killed by yellow fever. The reasoning behind why they got yellow fever was because the infected mosquitos. The mosquitoes came in by foreign ships, because of the water at the bottom of the ships.
There is a certin unsureness in the circulation and communication of information in A Journal of the Plague Year by Daniel Defoe. This instability of the language in this proto-novel is caused by the author citing two sides to every point or statement he makes causing contradictions. On top of this Defoe repeats the same points throughout the entire text. This uncertainty helps to make the reader believe the writing is an actual journal as opposed to an edited, actual non-fiction.
Fever 1793 is a historical fiction novel written by Laurie Halse Anderson that describes how Yellow Fever affected lives of everybody during the three months of sickness and panic in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Life today is more straightforward than it was in 1793 because of the technology. Fever 1793 is a story about a young girl, Matilda “Mattie” Cook, who faces challenges surviving in a Yellow Fever- struck city (Philadelphia). Mattie loses her grandfather on her journey of survival and her mother is nowhere to be seen, leaving Mattie to grow up and survive her journey alone. If the story was taking place in modern times, Mattie and the rest of Philadelphia would not struggle as much as they did in the story. The modern day technology that is here today allows this generation to progress through life smoother. Today’s technology would have a significant, positive impact on the community during 1793. If the people of Philadelphia had the knowledge of symptoms and treatments of Yellow Fever, they would have known for sure if the fever was occurring in the beginning and they would have also known how the fever was to
“Oh no, here she comes well it can’t be so bad” I thought as my mother came towards me. “How was your day honey?” I replied with a simple, “Good, thank you” obviously lying since, I had just failed my first test ever. “Are you sure? You look kinda down.” Under the pressure of guilt, I handed my mom my paper and braced myself. My mother looked at the paper confused for a bit...then her eyes widened bigger than I could ever imagine someone could. “What is this...this is a joke correct?” She was so shocked she didn’t know what to do she exclaimed, then, she called my
