Every novel contains characters that plays a significant role in development of plot. Primarily, what is the definition of a character, usually it means person, animal, or figure that are shown in a literature work. There are many characters in Charlotte’s Web and their influence on people that are going to be discussed in an essay. Animals in this story plays significant role and act almost like a humans. Moreover, animals present the biggest main characters in the book.
Charlotte’s Web starts from a story about young pig, who was born on a farm. His name is Wilbur, he was the weakest piglet of offspring, because of that farmer wanted to kill him. However, farmer’s daughter- Fern stopped him and asked to look after Wilbur. The Father decided to give little pig to his daughter for teaching purposes. Fern cared about piglet very well and attached to him. When Wilbur became bigger, the Fern’s family decide to give him to her uncle and aunt, who lived nearby and had their own farm. From this place the main points of the story begins. The story continues with more characters that will play a significant role in life of the main character of the book- Wilbur. (White, E.B.)
The main character is Wilbur. The pig, who now lives on the farm of Fern’s aunt and uncle. He had a fortune couple of times, first, when he was born a runt and was saved from death by one young girl. She look after him like a real baby. When he became older, there are might be noticed the character of Wilbur,
The book is filled with dark, gruesome moments. Moments that leave the reader with a destroyed faith in humanity. At surface value this is all true, but after looking deeper into the book many values are present. These value pertain to societal change and conformity. In the book, Piggy is the stereotypical fat boy with the glasses. The book portrays Piggy to be the victim of the society the boys have established on their small island. Despite what he has been through, Piggy makes an effort to contribute to the society the boys have built. The book says, “Piggy was … so full of pride in his contribution to the good of society … that he helped to fetch wood.” (Golding 186). The book also contains values of conformity for the better. The book tells of Jack who became upset with the tribe. He decides that he will break away from the tribe and invites everyone but Ralph to join him. One by one all the boys follow Jack to restart their society; leaving Ralph behind. The boys in the new tribe began to succeed more while Ralph begins to struggle. If Jack did not break away, then that success would have been
Characterisation is important in any short story as it helps to make the story that little bit more appealing, because it’s a short story, it is important to get the characterisation right as we don’t have hundreds of pages to learn about the character, in fact we only really have a page or two, maybe even less depending on the story, we might only have paragraphs to learn about the character. When looking at characterisation in the short story, you have too keep in mind, which character catches your eye? Is it the main character? Is it a supporting character? Why do they appeal to you? How does the author of the short story portray and reveal the character? The idea of characterisation is literally an act of describing certain characteristics,
The character helps understand the theme in the story, that individuality must be treasured in our society, because it shows what the emotional and physical links to the society in the book, as well as the mental states and feelings influencing the text.
A character is someone portrayed in a novel, play, or movie that represents an person. An author can create characters in many ways to show the emotional, mental, and physical characteristics of that individual. An author has an infinite amount of choices of how he or she can construct characters. Zadie Smith does just that in “The Girl with Bangs.” In “The Girl with Bangs,” Smith represents the narrator as a normal college student that falls in love with a girl, named Charlotte because of her bangs. This representation sets up a series of conflict when Charlotte’s boyfriend, Maurice, moves and Charlotte hooks up with the narrator. Maurice then moves back months later to find out that she has cheated on him with the narrator and another unknown male. The narrator later finds out that Charlotte has cheated on her with the unknown guy and then was going to choose Maurice over her, which causes a small fight about who should actually have her. This gets resolved when she shaves her head in spite of all three men. Maurice is the only one who still wants her. The narrator has clear motivation about why she wants Charlotte, she is a dynamic character, and she is a round character.
Character is a very important element of fiction because without characters, a story falls apart because readers only care about the plot and other aspects of fiction because of how it affects a character or characters. Characterization is the process with which the writer reveals the personality of a character or characters. Characterization can also help reveal the relationship between characters and how they feel about each other. If a writer knows how to use characterization properly, he or she can really bring the story and characters to life for the reader. “My Kid’s Dog” by Ron Hansen is an excellent example of how
Ray Bradbury, author of Fahrenheit 451 and various other short stories once said, "Plot is no more than footprints left in the snow after your characters have run by on their way to incredible destinations," and his observation is a perfect analysis of the importance of characters in fiction. The actions of characters in stories are what guide the most beloved ones. When a story is beloved it is most often driven by love of the characters, but the real question is why do readers love and relate to fictional beings. The types of characters that are most loved in fiction have roots in reality, and traits that make them more relatable to the reader.
Charlotte's Web Charlotte's Web is a moving story about farm animals. Many writers use abstract and abstruse diction to interpret a particular idea but E. B. White is different. The language used, the style, and the plots in this book are very humorous that I find it so impressive. The author, E. B. White, excels in creating animal characters that can talk and feel normally like humans as a simple farm was depicted as a lively family. Wilbur, the protagonist, is a runt among a litter of pigs.
In the book,”The Lord Of The Flies”, William Golding writes about a group of boys stranded on an uninhabited island. There are four boys that are important to the story: simon, ralph, jack, and piggy, yet each have different views of what is and isn’t important to survival. But only one manifest any sign of intelligence. Piggy the boy who believed that law and order should be kept throughout their time on the island. The little boy who lost his parents at a young age, the one who would seem as if he would be the least capable of survival on the island, piggy is the only “intellectual of the island.
In the short story “The Metaphor” by Budge Wilson, Charlotte changes throughout the story tremendously, Charlotte is caring, mature and intelligent. Charlotte loves Miss Hancock when she was back in Junior High, everything changes in senior high. Miss Hancock calls Charlotte over, “your metaphors [are] unusually good, unusually interesting. For someone your age, you have quite a complex vocabulary, truly a promising way of expressing yourself”(P.G 68). Miss Hancock is impressed on how smart Charlotte is at creating metaphors. Charlotte loves Miss Hancock when she was in junior high, “We were fond of Miss Hancock, in fact almost to a person we loved her”(P.G 66). Everyone loves Miss Hancock when she was nice and less strict even Charlotte. Charlotte
A character is just that, a person that is made up in a story. Each person in the Little Red Riding Hood is a made up character that the author came up with. For example, the wolf in the story talks. How many wolves can talk? In the Little Red Riding Hood, it is necessary for the wolf to talk in order to make a point and get to the end conclusion. In order for the wolf to find out where the grandmother lived to devour her and her granddaughter, the wolf would need to communicate with Little Red Riding Hood.
This book is about many characters mostly animals. There are six main characters, these being first Old Major; an old pig that has won many contests and is favored by Jones. Second is Jones, the man who ran Manor Farm before the
By having Fern, a young girl with whom we can all see some of ourselves as children in, sticking up for the life of a pig not even a day old, we as readers move into the role of cheering for the underdog right off the bat. Then, when Wilbur is once again on the chopping block, readers begin to feel both love towards Wilbur and nervousness for him. It also
The result of these characteristics give each story suspense and mystery, leaving the readers wondering what each character will do next and what further action will take place. Characters hold a primary role in determining the outcome of a story, which is the reasoning behind the many similarities and differences among literary characters. Also, a clear example is the similar plots with two completely different outcomes. Once the audience understands a character, they are capable of building on their existing knowledge to foreshadow events or understand the text more logically, which is evident when reading these
A character is something or someone that influences a story, whether living or nonliving. Nature, both human nature and environmental nature, influences the series of events in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight by an anonymous author, through its unpredictability and fierce unforgiving character. Through foreshadowing future events, nature also serves as an omnipresent character that can impact the moods of other people in the story. Nature also enforces a strong code of conduct in the other characters in order to combat the human nature of desire. Physically represented through the Green Knight, nature is a fierce opponent and is physically represented by the Green Knight, by human nature, and environmental nature including the weather and seasons. In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, nature serves as a character that influences the story through human and environmental nature. Nature influences the story through the weather and seasons, the combination of the natural and civilized spheres, conflicts between man and nature, and physically represented through the Green Knight.
A major character in the book is of course, Harry Potter. A fourteen-year old protagonist with prominent principles to guide him and developing maturity. The boy inherited his father’s (James Potter) “perpetually untidy black hair, his mother’s (Lily Potter) green eyes, a lightning bolt-shaped scar on his forehead, round eyeglasses, and small & skinny for his age.” (Rowling) Harry attends Hogwarts with Hermione Granger along with Ron Weasley, both are best-friends of him.
