Character Changes In The Diary Of Anne Frank

In the popular book and story of Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl there are many themes present throughout her journal. It’s a touching piece of literature that puts things into perspective about family, warfare, loneliness, and selfishness. Her diary gives insight about people who are actually living in those circumstances from Anne’s point of view, resulting in a more factual story than fictional novels loosely based on true events. Anne goes through a lot during her time in the Annex, including tense arguments with her family, bombings, thieves, Peter, and Dussel moving in. The events may not seem like that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, but to a young girl, it’s a huge change of events. It shows a lot from her in the way she acts, Anne’s selfishness proving that stress and war can change people to be more selfish.

The holocaust was a horrible time in people's lives and it killed six million people. Even though this happened to so many people Anne Frank was someone that so many people look up to because of her diary that she wrote during this time. Anne Frank, her family, and the Van Danns all spent 25 months in the secret annex. Dussel was someone that came in later so it was very tight for 8 people to be living under certain circumstances for that long. They hoped to stay hidden until they were liberated but they were caught and sadly the only one that lived through the concentration camps was Mr.Frank. Many historical events took place in Anne Frank. Even though most of these things occurred while they were in hiding, it still changed the characters mood and relationships.

Anne faces many problems and struggles while she is at the Annex , but one big problem is her mother. She has many disputes with her mother. It all ends though when Anne takes the bigger side of life and matures. Anne shows that she is matured by questioning her past decisions , understanding her mother's point of view , and she is understanding all of her emotions more thoroughly.

The historical events of World War II affected the lives of Anne and the others hiding in the annex. Historical events in The Diary of Anne Frank causes extensive changes to the drama. Two primary changes that occur due to historical events are the character’s traits and the mood of the drama.

Peter is quiet and a shy boy. He has many duties chopping wood, fetching vegetables and potatoes from downstairs, and looking out for his cat. Anne thought he was boring and awkward. She later thought different and in up falling in love with him after she found him as a decent boy.

The author of the Anne Frank play includes a number of details on how Anne changes from an annoying girl to a loving and caring person. When WW2 broke out, the Franks, Van Daans, and Mr. Dussel move into a secret Annex in order to avoid capture by the Nazis. They lived together in the Annex for about two years. During these two years, many of the people living in there has gone through some dramatic changes, such as Anne. During the first year in the Annex, Anne is disrespectful and defiant against her mother and Mr. Van Daan. During the second year, Anne understands that her mother was trying to help her, not annoy her. Anne has gone through puberty and has a liking towards Peter. Anne also starts wanting privacy as she starts having secrets. Peter notices that there is a change in Anne as she turns from a noisy girl to a quiet one. Anne’s maturity also shows when she tries to be more optimistic about the world.

As Anne experienced her emotions she has changed very much like how at the start of the drama she was negative about peter but near the end of the play they were in love.

The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank is organized in chronological order and include the dates important to the Jewish author. On Anne’s thirteenth birthday, she receives a diary she calls “Kitty,” and this is where she records events that happened to her. Anne includes writings about her brief normal life and the life in the “Secret Annex.” She and her family are hiding from the Gestapo during WWII. As the story progresses, more Jews join the Franks. There is great conflict between Anne and the rest of the residents, though sometimes her father is “darling.” After a little more than two years in hiding, the German police discovered the secret Jews and sent them into labor camps, where Otto Frank was the only survivor. Anne matures and finds Peter at her side, even though there is tension between the other Van Daans and herself. Not only is there conflict between Mrs. Van Daan, but with Anne’s own mother and her roommate, Mr. Dussel.

Anne matures throughout the course of her diary entries, moving from detailed accounts of basic activities to deeper, more profound thoughts about humanity and her own personal nature. “I know what I want, I have a goal, an opinion, I have a religion and love. Let me be myself and then I am satisfied. I know that I’m a woman, a woman with inward strength and plenty of courage.” This shows that Anne matures through the course of her diary, she considers herself as a woman rather than a young girl and sets goals for herself that she wants to achieve. Anne becomes more optimistic even after she feels misunderstood by everyone and feels completely alone.

After spending more than 2 years in the Annex, Anne matured into a selfless, polite 15 year old. Anne showed that she was selfless because during Hanukkah, Anne either made or repurposed gifts for everyone in the Annex and she didn’t expect anything back. When Anne was talking to Peter, she noticed that he was interested in her photographs so, she was willing to give him hers. Anne also, apologised to her mother for being to rude and “horrid”. She would also try to lift the others spirits, especially Peter’s, when she saw that they looked sad. After Anne and her family were found and taken away, Anne tried to be positive and be happy that she was at least outdoors while at the concentration camp. Changes happen to all of us. The change may be good or it may be bad. We all experience changes and the changes reflect how we think, act, or talk in society. Every change is different and every change has different outcomes. In The Diary of a Young Girl, Anne Frank change quite a lot throughout the story. She was very different from everyone else who hid with her in the annex, in good ways and bad ways. As she grows, she changes her personality, her mentality, and, most importantly, her emotions. She wanted to be respected and didn’t want to cause trouble, even though she did. As time went by, she started to change her emotions and felt more empathy.
