hat is a good teacher?: A good teacher, at its base, has two main characteristics: A Solid, working knowledge of the content and a high intrapersonal intelligence. One without the other will result in a horrible teacher. If a teacher is an expert in their content but is incapable of relating and contenting with their students, they will not effectively teach. On the other hand, a teacher who is a “people person” and has a great relationship with their students, but doesn’t have a solid grasp of the content, will inevitably fail to teach effectively as well. A good teacher will have those two basic components. However, a ‘great’ teacher will have extreme patience, be encouraging, inspiring, a clear communicator, in tune with the emotions of their students and show genuine excitement for the content that they’re teaching. Students notice these things. Passion and excitement is contagious. The teacher mindset also goes a long way. For example, “empathize with kids, respect them and believe that each one has something special that can be built upon (Lieberman, Ann. Teachwithsimplicity.com).” Respecting, caring and believing in every student makes the quality of one’s teaching go from great to life-changing. Strengths and Weaknesses: My first-time teaching in this program I made a few mistakes. Firstly, I didn’t write new vocabulary on the board for visual reference. Secondly, I did not monitor the room efficiently for answering all the student’s questions and meeting all their needs. Lastly, I overexplained the grammar concept, resulting in a high percentage of teacher-talk time. I have corrected these errors for the most part. Sometimes I still forget to write new vocabulary on the board, but for the most part I do this. I also went to the other extreme at one point where I over-monitored. I think I have know found a healthy balance in the classroom. In my opinion, the thing that I need to work on the most is eliminating some of my teacher-talk time. With every teacher practice I discover new ways to allow the students to talk more than me. That is the hardest thing for me because the silence of students makes me feel uncomfortable, so I often try to fill the silence with my own voice. This is what I need to
There are many characteristics that are necessary for teachers to have. First, it’s important for teachers to be vastly knowledgeable about their subject matter. Teachers need to be enthusiastic about whatever they are teaching, especially if they want to sustain students' interest. If the teacher isn't interested in the subject, why should the students? Educators should always be willing to learn all they can about the content in which they are teaching—making the content as relevant or interesting as possible. This essay contemplates my individual development, skill acquisition and exploration of teaching approaches; throughout and beyond the International Teacher Training Organisation (ITTO) program. The problems I encountered will be discussed; and their relation to establishing where my wealth of primary teaching experience aligns with English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching approaches. For example; efforts to reduce my teacher talk time compared to primary school education was important, correcting pronunciation in an appropriate manner and correctly pacing both my speech and activities were areas of development that were observed, reflected on personally and subsequently acted upon.

To be an outstanding educator you need to possess many important qualities. The qualities I believe are the most important are flexibility, creativity, and passion. The teachers I remember and relate to the most have those qualities. They are the areas that I believe I have strength in and the areas that will benefit my future students.
In “The Gestures of Grace” By: Alison Melotti-Cormack, she talks about what she believes makes a good teacher. Some of the qualities of a good teacher has is a passion for learning, connect with the students, evolves over time, and learns to accept the “bad” students. She also believes that teaching is all about learning and the gestures of grace. Melotti-Cormack’s main point/message is to just listen. She say’s this because from listening to her students she has been able to learn life lessons that she uses to help her students.
Being a teacher doesn’t mean you have to be boring and uneventful. Being a good teacher shows that you know what your students like and make them want to learn. Students learn best through hands on evolvement. An effective teacher will have her students actively engage in station, centers and projects. An effective teacher makes her students feel like they belong and are disciplined fairly. It is important to welcome the diversity of all students. It is important to assess students in an appropriate manner. This creates a positive learning environment for the students. “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” There are so many different quality traits that separate a mediocre teacher from a great teacher. So who’s to decide what those specific traits are? Every student is different when it comes to learning. One may love a certain teacher, and another may not. All teachers have different teaching styles. Looking back at my favorite teachers from high school, I noticed that they all had similar characteristics that made them my favorites. However, they also had their own unique qualities that made them stand out as well. These teachers have not only taught me the required criteria for the class, but in fact made me a better individual. Another point that makes a good teacher would be his/her patience. Teachers should not get upset or even worse, give up on the students who are not so strong in their studies. A philosophy of mathematics should be included in an excellent philosophy of education. A philosophy of mathematics should include your thoughts and ideas about what mathematics education is, what impact it has on society, the qualities that make a good teacher, a teacher’s role, research on the standards and instructional strategies, and ways to ensure student are able to learn mathematic concepts in your classroom. Each of these ideas should forever be evolving because we grow as teachers our thought and ideas will grow. I believe that teaching excellence comes from two different things, dedication and the desire to help others. Teachers who are dedicated to their students and classrooms are definitely going to be excellent and never give up at what they do. Teachers who have a great desire to help their students and their career will continue to do everything they can to make sure their students receive what is needed. Teaching is a difficult occupation. Teachers play an important part in training children, teenagers… So, a good teacher must have some special qualities. They are: knowledge, creation, confidence, empathy, sense of humor and passion.
When I think about teachers that I have had in the past, several different ones come to my mind. Each of these educators stands out in my mind for a variety of diverse reasons. Being a teacher is not an easy task as many people could think. To be a teacher does not only imply to know the subject to be taught, it also includes being willing to constantly improve oneself integrally, as much as updating the resources and materials one uses in teaching.
