INTRODUCTION: What is teaching? Teaching is something many people desire to do in order to help those learn with different teaching approaches. A lot of time is devoted to the ‘what’ of teaching and what areas we should we cover, what resources do we need and so on. The ‘how’ of teaching also gets a great deal of space and how to structure a lesson, manage classes, assess for learning for learning and so on. “Do we ask the “who” question – who is the self that teaches? How does the quality of my selfhood form – or deform – the way I relate to my students, my subject, my colleagues, my world? How can educational institutions sustain and deepen the selfhood from which good teaching comes?”- Parker J. Palmer (1998: 4).
WHAT IS A GOOD TEACHER?: A good teacher is someone who focuses on students needs and styles of learning. Every student has different way of learning. In my experience to become a good teacher one must take the time to speak and observe their students. I always observe my students when they are speaking. One thing I have learned is to always ask the students what activity we will be doing in their own words. This way I can see if they understand and are paying attention.
STRENGTH AND WEAKNESSES: The first time I taught it was in front of a bunch of eighth graders. I was shaking and not confident in the way I was conducting class. I had no idea how to be a teacher or how to speak. When I came to this program I had a better understanding
In the book, Ten Traits of Highly Effective Principals: From good to Great Performance, McEwan discusses the facilitator in chapter 4 (2003). She describes the facilitator as a leader with abilities to build strong relationships with parents, teachers, and students. One principal in the book, Bill, thought the students would learn more if their teachers are understanding, caring, and genuine as opposed with students who were taught by teachers that were not. This idea was tested and their findings were placed in a book entitled, Kids Don’t Learn From People They Don’t Like (Aspey & Roebuck, 1977). The results of the study described the book perfectly.
Outstanding teachers posses the following skills and or attributes: The ability to adapt to any changes that may occur, The cognitive skills to think quickly and logically, The virtue of patience to handle the repeating of information for those students who may not catch on quickly and finally The passion of teaching others to be better learners and the ability to listen and analyze the emotional, physical, and mental state of the students . Truly good educators remember that the image they exude is the example that is set forth for their students. A teacher provides high expectations for the students as well as his or her self to creates a positive atmosphere.
In my personal opinion, I believe that there could be many skills and attributes that could be redeemed necessary in order for a person to be considered an outstanding teacher. Like for instance an outstanding teacher would be known for portraying diverse qualities like passion, leadership, classroom management and content knowledge. A teacher has many roles throughout the school day, therefore requires various qualities that would redeem them as an outstanding educator. Throughout the school day, outstanding teachers are known for being able to accommodate the academic, social, and emotional needs of all of their students.
While there are many ways to be an outstanding teacher, every high-quality teacher should, in my opinion, have these skills and dispositions:
I believe that I can pass along my own wisdom while simultaneously helping them to develop a knowledge base of their own. I believe that I can get through to students and allow them to reach new realizations. I believe that I can help them to see the process of schooling as an experience that is both interesting and enlightening. What follows is my interpretation of the teaching profession. It details the methodological and ideological frameworks that I would use to construct a learning experience that is meaningful for students.
Being a teacher doesn’t mean you have to be boring and uneventful. Being a good teacher shows that you know what your students like and make them want to learn. Being like Ms.Murrow would give your students a horrible year. Being Mr.White makes your students look forward to learning. Be a teacher that gets students to look forward to learning,
A teacher is a person who inspires and encourages us to strive for greatness, live to our fullest potential and see the best in ourselves. They are strong-willed individuals who we admire and aspire to become. We learn from them. We learn through their commitment, integrity, and perseverance. A teacher can influence many important aspects of a student’s life. They help shape a student’s personality, morality and provide them with the tools necessary to take on their future endeavors. “A good teacher can teach you something that you will remember for a day, but a great teacher will teach you something that you will remember for the rest of your life.” I was fortunate enough to find all of these qualities in my Army JROTC instructor, First Sergeant Navarra.
In today’s society it is nearly impossible to survive without an education. It is important that we have the right kind of teachers to accomplish certain goals. A good teacher is one who listens to their students and tries to answer any questions they might have about anything. I think that a good teacher should also be able to listen to others opinions and not argue with them but try to understand their point of view on the subject.
A teacher is one who teaches or instructs, according to the Webster dictionary, but a good teacher has less than technical definition. They ask their students questions, instead of giving answers, to further the student’s thinking and make it more clear and more refined. Good teachers do not lecture and spew knowledge and facts onto their listeners, rather they engage their students to think critically and to think for themselves.
become successful. A good teacher plans with intention with all these things in mind to communicate the content of lesson to the psyche of the learner. A good educator is transforms themselves and those they serve to reach their loftiest goals.
In my opinion, a good teacher should be one who puts her heart into teaching. This is because only by doing so will the students feel their passion and hard work. When a teacher strives hard for the students, students will put in their effort as well. If a teacher dislikes her job, goes to classes in a bad mood, her teaching would also be affected and students would not be able to enjoy lessons as well.
A philosophy of mathematics should be included in an excellent philosophy of education. A philosophy of mathematics should include your thoughts and ideas about what mathematics education is, what impact it has on society, the qualities that make a good teacher, a teacher’s role, research on the standards and instructional strategies, and ways to ensure student are able to learn mathematic concepts in your classroom. Each of these ideas should forever be evolving because we grow as teachers our thought and ideas will grow. I will be discussing my thoughts and ideas on what creates an excellent philosophy of mathematics.
Teaching is a difficult occupation. Teachers play an important part in training children, teenagers… So, a good teacher must have some special qualities. They are: knowledge, creation, confidence, empathy, sense of humor and passion.
Being a teacher is not an easy task as many people could think. To be a teacher does not only imply to know the subject to be taught, it also includes being willing to constantly improve oneself integrally, as much as updating the resources and materials one uses in teaching. Reflecting and analyzing over and over again the best way to teach to learn and how to make students to extend what has been learned. The many hours spend in the classroom will never be enough to plan lessons, prepare materials, review pupils tasks and exams, as well, all the administrative requirements one has to cover for whatever institution we work. Besides all this a good teacher, a professional one, will have to find the time to keep preparing to improve
This study was conducted in 2 stages. Stage 1 used a modified Reactive Delphi technique to develop and determine content validity of the teacher quality scale. Stage 2 incorporated the distribution of the scale to a convenience sample of students learning English at a private center to determine scale construct validity and internal consistency. Ethical issues in conducting the research was highly aware although there are no such rules in current context of Vietnam.
