Characteristics of a Successful Entrepreneur
ABSTRACT
First, there was an interview with a successful entrepreneur. Second, there was a talk on entrepreneurship by a guest speaker, Mr. Azmi Ahmad (the CEO of Skali.com) and later, an "elevator speech" by fellow students on various issues related to entrepreneurship. This collective information and some reading on entrepreneurship journals, books and articles have brought to the idea on writing this paper, towards certain perspective, on successful entrepreneurial characteristics. This paper examines the myths associated with what it takes to be an entrepreneur, the profiles and the common characteristics among these successful entrepreneurs. INTRODUCTION

A sense of personal achievement and accomplishment, feeling in control of their own destinies, and realizing their vision and dreams are the most powerful motivators for entrepreneur. Money is viewed as a tool and way of keeping score.
PROFILE OF AN ENTREPRENEUR
David McClelland (1961), the entrepreneur is primarily motivated by an overwhelming need for achievement. He has a strong "urge to build". Bird (1992) sees entrepreneurs as Mercurial, that is, prone to insights, brainstorms, deceptions, ingeniousness and resourcefulness. They are cunning, opportunistic, creative, and unsentimental. Busenitz and Barney (1997) claim entrepreneurs are prone to overconfidence and over generalizations.

Sobel (2008), an entrepreneur is “someone who organizes, manages, and assumes the risks of a business or enterprise. An entrepreneur is an agent of change”. Sometimes becoming a successful entrepreneur is not about whether or not you have your M.B.A, it’s about your willingness to dedicate part of your life, money, and everything else to fulfilling your dreams. As Sobel’s definition includes the word “manages”, many entrepreneurs do have an advanced degree in some form of business to provide them with the knowledge to successfully manage their company. This provides them with the ability to handle their own payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and human resources. Entrepreneurs have many risks involved when beginning their company, such as: not succeeding, running out of money, or having to relocate. These risks were more common years ago when investors were not so easy to find and money was not so loosely handed out. Today’s entrepreneurs can usually fund themselves or have plenty of support from individual or group of investors. However, no matter the monetary support you have, an entrepreneur must make their company appeal to the public or their targeted group of customers. An entrepreneur is someone who organizes, manages, and assumes the risks of a business or enterprise (Merriam-Webster, n.d). Some characteristics of an entrepreneur are, the willingness to work hard, the desire for responsibility and the confidence in their ability to succeed. The person that I chose to interview for this paper is, Adama Kuyateh.
Today we will look at an important entrepreneur which I would consider a legend. First we will define what an entrepreneur is. We will look at who I choose as the person to research and why. We will also see what economic decision she made that was significant to her success with a detailed example. There are several areas to look into also, such as examples of her managerial economics, her social responsibility and her ethics.
This article talks about how it can be difficult to be an entrepreneur but it’s worth it. An entrepreneur is when one lives off their own business. Eades talks about how by starting your own business you can make a positive impact no matter the risk that exists of failing. Tom Anastasi’s The Successful Entrepreneur: American Dream Done Right lives up to the expectation of its title. Anastasi describes his book as one written “for a large segment of entrepreneurs (and their spouses) who are financially conservative, want to own a business, and, rightfully, find the traditional, risky methods frightening and not right for them. It’s also for people who are willing to risk it all, but are also willing to keep their feet on the brake long enough to make their business a success.” (9). With his insightful engaging and practical approach to entrepreneurship, his book will certainly appeal to the audiences he has envisioned. Anastasi begin his book with an introduction thanking his audience for driving the economy. Anastasi, who has played his part in driving the American economy by being a small business owner himself. He has also been a Small Business Development Center (SBDC) consultant and a professor at Harvard University where he taught leadership. Anastasi is currently the MBA director and former Dean of Graduate and Continuing Studies at Daniel Webster College. Anastasi purpose in writing The Successful Entrepreneur presents itself to people who are thinking about starting their own business or who already owns their business, by giving information on how to run a business through his tips and suggestions from personal experience.
Entrepreneurial leadership qualities are essential in order attain success. During different phases of life, I discovered a number of entrepreneurial characteristics within me that helped me to move forward towards my aim. Entrepreneurs also require certain characteristics that are necessary for success. The characteristics of many entrepreneurs include spontaneous creativity and a willingness to make decisions in the absence of solid data. He or she may be driven by a need to create something new or build something tangible. As new enterprises have low success rates, a person in this role must also have considerable persistence. He or she may have the greatest chance of success by focusing on a market niche either too small or too new to have been dominated by established businesses.
Business focus, this is profit orientated. This is the long and short term goals for the company in order to grow and succeed.
A remarkable amount of people most definitely agree that an entrepreneur is someone who started his or her business. Understand that this bland definition does not quite give a full understanding of entrepreneurship. When launching any form of entrepreneurial leap, it will create circumstances that can make you better as a person mentally, physically, spiritually. By understanding your passion and visualizing the dreams you possess can push start your drive to become an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship also requires a massive amount of trust in not only for yourself but your product and employees. At one point of most entrepreneurs life they have gone through the worst imaginable, having resilience most definitely sets them apart from the average. Even though it is extremely difficult to accept tough times, your dream should not go on pause. As an entrepreneur having patience and controlling the situation, especially tough ones is a major key factor on entrepreneurship. Thus being said there are 5 great qualities that describe a successful entrepreneur resilience, agility, Patience, trust, and passion.
Explain and critically analyze unique traits of an Entrepreneur, discuss these related to personal strengths and weaknesses
There has been extensive research conducted on the characteristics that successful entrepreneurs possess. These attributes vary widely across literature, however there are common key traits that are required to achieve any form of success. Frederick et al (2013) suggest entrepreneurs are risk takers, optimistic, have sound judgement and an ability to manage. While a review of literature relating to the psychology of an entrepreneur reveals a large variety of characteristics in a successful entrepreneur, these can be consolidated to a a few into only a few traits that are essential for a successful entrepreneur. Whilst taking into
