Sermons from God
Preachers try to show god in many different ways, Some show god through fear and aggressiveness, Some show through a positive way. But either way both ways still show god.
Charles lawson is a preacher who shows god to people in a way that it will make them fear from doing or committing sin. He shows that back in the day, religion was a big deal, like they had a whole different set of rules in religion, which they had to be harsh, because the way he speaks about god is that you have to be a very religious person.
Joel Osteen is a preacher who shows god in calming and soothing voice but he shows god in a positive way. He tells how he was in the wrong way in life but god found him and helped him recover from his past and sorrow.
In William L. Rowe 's paper "The Problem of Evil and Some Varieties of Atheism" he sets out to accomplish two main goals. The first goal is directed toward theists, while the second attempts to reach the very wellspring of an atheist 's heart. Foremost, Rowe sets out to show that there is "an argument for atheism based on the existence of evil that may rationally justify someone in being an atheist" (335). After he has effectively addressed this first issue he moves on to try and convince the atheist that in light of all the evidence that theists are rationally justified (just as much as the atheist) and therefore that atheists should subscribe to what Rowe calls "friendly atheism."
Preachers are supposed to be someone you look up to. They are supposed to guide you and lead you on the right path to heaven. If your preacher is joining the KKK or raping little girls, you would start to wonder if what he was teaching is the teaching of God. Also he knows that suicide is an unforgivable sin, but he commits suicide to run away from his problems.
Malala Yousafzai, 18 year old Nobel Prize winner and women’s rights activist, once exclaimed: “I raise up my voice- not so I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard...we cannot succeed when half of us are held back”. The idea of speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves is extremely important when it comes to striving for change, so being able to express the needs of marginalized people is a great and awesome power. Yousafzai’s quote specifically connects to women’s rights, therefore it can be used to support the feminist movement seeing as she is advocating for the equality, in treatment and opportunity, of men and women. Feminist beliefs do not only apply to society, but to theology as well, seeing as the teachings of the bible are extremely influential in the day to day lives and values of religious people. The text that I chose to highlight this idea comes from Elizabeth A. Johnson’s book Quest for the Living God, chapter 5 ‘God Acting Womanish’ because it directly connects spirituality and feminism.
He resembles and acts as a preacher would, but ironically despise the idea of him
In Warren W. Wiersbe’s book 50 People Every Christian Should Know Wiersbe says that “Perhaps one of the highest compliments anyone could pay a preacher would be to say that he preaches like Spurgeon.” Spurgeon is well respected for his powerful, moving, and God honoring sermons that he preached. Spurgeon is also known for the Church he had in London. When Charles Spurgeon would preach to people he would be called a many-sided individual. (Wiersbe141) This could mean Spurgeon was very practical from different aspects. That one man may understand Spurgeon for the reason that Spurgeon never attended a theology school, and God used Spurgeon so why can’t God use that man. While another man many learn better from the example of Spurgeon’s
Throughout time, there have been diverse religious beliefs that have been taken into account regarding Christianity and God. Although, many pastors have reflected their own beliefs on that matter, one pastor can stand out from the rest. The name is Joel Osteen who became a minister in 2006 in Houston, Texas. His primary focus differed than many others, as he did not focus on the sins or evils that this corrupt world overcomes society with. Instead, he decided to preach about the idea of positive thinking and self-improving. Basically, he believed that individuals in society should focus on themselves, as they take priority over the community as a whole. When individuals immerse themselves in a deep focus on finding their true self, God will
Chapter 2 is full of information that made me think of things in a new perspective. I came across so many things in the chapter that made me have more appreciation for the power and overall greatness of our God. There is so much that goes into the body and it's responses that there is no better explanation than a creator. While I was reading I was trying to take everything into account about neurons. It is amazing how they are such a small part of the body, but hold such a great responsibility.
Joel Osteen, John’s youngest son of 5, succeeded him after John’s death from a heart attack. Joel did not always want to become a pastor and take over his fathers business, but when his father passed he had a change of heart. Joel took the stage October of 1999 and has now reached many more millions of viewers and many countries world wide.
In the Article “On Being an Atheist”, McCloskey refers to the arguments defending the existence of God as “proofs”. He also believes that because none of the arguments can absolutely prove the existence of God, that we should deny them all and the existence of God (McCloskey, 1968). Foreman addresses this dilemma in his presentation “Approaching the Question of God’s Existence.” Foreman states that there is no absolute proof of God’s existence but there are many things in the universe that are best explained by the existence of God. All arguments in the defense of the existence of
that if one asserts something then one must deny something. He then goes on by
There exist three possible affiliations to the question of god; theist, atheist, and agnostic. Each affiliation believes itself to be most true, but each also recognizes that they are mutually exclusive with each other and that they potentially are wrong. Jeff Jordan looks at the question of god and concludes that reason alone cannot uphold philosophy and if held to the same degree of certainty as theist beliefs it falls short. Because of this Jordan sees faith as a possibility and when struck with the wager of believing and finding eternal salvation or not and finding dreamless sleep, Jordan is quick to stick to his reformed Catholic beliefs. It seems to me that this wager does not take seriously the negatives of faith and does not fully explore
Dickson feels that the Bible is both clear and vague regarding those whom have never heard of Jesus. However, he does not believe that someone should be condemned for never hearing of Jesus. The notion of God condemning those who are incapable of hearing His message is unthinkable. He also brings up another valid point regarding the use of the word sincerity. If one is sincere in their beliefs, he/she will be accepted by God. Dickson states, “This would mean that a suicide boomer would be saved because he/she is sincere in their belief. This could not be farther from the truth. I believe that no matter what your beliefs are or are not everyone knows what is right. If you do the right thing, then God will look favorably towards you.
In Uys’ (1980) film, The God’s Must Be Crazy, a tribal community of South African Bushmen who live independently away from any contact with the outside world. When a Coke bottle is dropped from a plane, this “beautiful” and “useful” thing becomes a tool that is adopted into a variety of uses by the family (Uys, 1980). When the family begins to fight over the bottle, Xi, decides that although the bottle has been given to them by the gods, this now “evil thing” must be thrown off the edge of the world (Uys, 1980). The film then captures Xi’s experiences and interactions with other people and modern society as he sought to accomplish his task.
Hi I'm Ashley Afriyie, I'm happy to have you as one of my college professors this semester. I realized my calling for nursing when I was a young girl. I was always intrigued with helping and caring for people. I just like the idea of helping and caring for others. I originally went to Ohio State University for two years. I didn't get into the nursing program and I started looking at other schools. Hondo's was one of the best choice and it was convenient to me. I have a lot of motivators I would say God is my first I'm all about religion. My parents are my main supporters they support me through everything. I don't have any main concerns I just want to improve my study skills and succeed at hondros. I would by just taught me studying skills
The title and the beginning paragraph clearly talk about the journey of faith. The title, “Go with God”, is trying to get the reader’s attention, telling the reader to go with God on the journey that he has planned for you. It is written to future college students as it says under the title, so the rest of the essay will most likely be about how following God on the journey will look different in college. The beginning paragraph talks about how Christianity is ritualistic, full of rich traditions and morals. However, religion is more than just a moral code. It is a way of living.
