The biggest lesson learned, was that cheer would push you past all your limits and out of your comfort zone. Defying gravity and fighting human instinct, does not come easy. I have been cheering for six years, almost everyday and being on two teams, competitive, and the high school sideline and competition cheer is demanding. Currently, I hold the title of captain of sideline cheer and hopefully, I can sustain that title in years to come. The biggest reward was seeing my team win nationals and having an undefeated season. I am still friends with the girls from fifth grade and my grades have not stopped improving. If it was not for cheer, I might still be the quiet, lonely, blanket holding little girl. Instead, I stand with chest puffed out,
An interesting note about me happened last year as I attended a cheer clinic, the venerable UGA cheer squad chose me to stunt with them. As a participant, I learned gymnastic and tumbling routines, cheers used for game days, and received an invitation to continue working with the cheer squad following the workshop. This clinic taught new terms and methods, and I also encountered some great new friends. Cheering in high school and competitively, have had an enormous impact on my life.
Throughout many years we’ve seen different Filmmakers and Directors who have given there input or thought of what the ideal version of Jesus Christ. What makes the image of Jesus Christ so dynamic is the controversy it creates, whether the connection is positive or negative people will challenge it. In 1988 film director Martin Scorsese directed the film “The Last Temptation Of Christ “written by author Nikos Kazantzakis. The significance of the character that Scorsese present is he shows the veracity of Jesus Christ. Instead of giving people the typical Jesus Christ that we see on postcards, Scorsese shows the true flesh and blood of Jesus. He shows the struggles and the questioning of Jesus and to his father. The image that Scorsese presents as Jesus gives a solid and strong acknowledgment to Christ; this is not a fully divine Christian movie. It helps to understand Jesus more and what he suffered and went through in order to help save mankind.
I have changed so much in the past year and a half because of cheer. I used to be uncomfortable in my own skin, I would hold back my true self; I would not be as open as I am now. I used to be worried of what other would think of me, I was awkward and meek. Now I’m quirkier, and unapologetically so. Cheer taught me that you can’t be afraid of the
Ask questions!! You want them to know you and see you working hard. DONOT be afraid to ask for help.
I used to be a cheerleader. When I think of cheerleading I think of it as leading the students and players to win and try harder. Being a leader means to take responsibilities and lead the crowed in a positive way. When I was a cheerleader it meant so much to me to lead the crowd and other future cheerleaders and kids that look up to all of the current cheerleaders.
It’s one day until cheer tryouts. For some reason I was thinking about it during the middle of math class, but I’m not real sure as to why. “Trista, what’s the answer to number…….” I didn’t notice the teacher was talking to me so I didn’t hear what number it was. I’m never listening anyways. “Sorry sir, what number was that again?” I said. “Number three, Trista.” My neighbor answered me, so I fumbled with my papers to find the right page. After about a decade, I finally found it, but the teacher had already moved on to the next student. I can’t believe I was so zoned out. I’m kind of used to it by now. Lunch was the same thing. I was completely zoned out and still thinking of cheer. That’s all I could think about and nothing else. All throughout
Cheerleading is a sport that many people don’t support in a way that they support the popular sports in most schools, like football and basketball. Cheering can open many doors and create an ample amount of job opportunities. By cheering you can also receive full ride athletic scholarships from many schools. A cute skirt and pompoms is not the only thing you have to work for when it comes to cheering. Cheer teaches you many things other than being able to tumble and shout! As a cheerleader, you learn to encourage anyone that needs that boost of encouragement, we learn how to work together with other people. Your cheer team members will become your family!
Cheerleading is a time to represent your school spirit and pride. Ever since grade school I was a cheerleader. I continued to cheer in middle school and up to junior year in High School, for a total of six years. I started off with pop warner cheer then junior varsity cheer and ended with varsity cheer in high school. When you cheer you get to get the crowd involved in the game, you make new friends and you also get to compete in competitive cheer at competitions. Cheerleading was a great part of my life and it is an experience I will always treasure. It has taught me that practice builds stamina, competition proves your teams point and it builds the understanding of why teamwork is important.
Becoming a cheerleader at such a young age, being on the cheer mat became a happy place for me. I spent thirteen out of my eighteen years of my life cheerleading and it is definitely something that means a lot to me. Being on the cheer mat whether at practice or at competition has taught me many life lessons that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Having such caring and dedicated coaches made my experience so special and unique. My passion for cheerleading shows tremendously as soon as I step on the mat, and learning many life lessons from cheer has shaped me into the person I am today.
There are a multitude of risks and factors that one must consider before becoming a cheerleader. For instance, cheerleading requires a high level of physical exertion and injuries can happen at anytime. This is what gives cheerleading its reputation as a competitive activity - one that rivals already recognized sports such as basketball and football in competitiveness. Every person that is trying to become a cheerleader must be serious, and be dedicated. For someone to get the opportunity of having the title of being a cheerleader, one must go through an advanced try-out. These try-outs are not short; rather, preparation for tryouts usually last four days. During those days, everyone proves their abilities to see where they stand for stunts, cheering, dancing, jumps, tumbling and the various other positions within cheerleading. One factor that is heavily focused on during
The lessons I have learned from serving as a cheerleading director and creating a new cheerleading program will certainly help me in the future. Not only can I use this in my personal life, but also in my professional life. For instance, these skills would be helpful for any club or business that relies on recruitment and or retention strategies as a way to draw in their members. My experience with questionnaires and advertising will help me, because I can determine the needs of future participates and increase the accessibility of a variety of programs. What I have learned will make me valuable for business that is looking for someone to help them increase their participation and grow their company through the use of flyers and information booths. I will be able to teach another program director how to use questionnaire results to form strategies that will make their program grow.
Every parent wants to encourage their child’s development and ensure that they are developing on pace or even above their peers. How can parents accomplish this goal and give their children an opportunity to achieve appropriate developmental milestones? The answer lies in the hobbies of the child and how these activities affect their development. Involvement in activities leads to greater development in children overall. However, the greatest opportunity for children to grow and adapt to the changes occurring during child development appears in one particular activity.
In order to be successful in cheerleading you have to have a strong body and mindset, because cheerleading takes physical and mental strength. Cheerleading is a yearlong sport so if an athlete survives for that long then that means the athlete is dedicated to his/her team. When the athletes finish the entire season they are acknowledged at a banquet. At the banquet the team talks about things in the past and they look back at everything that happened earlier in the season. The seniors of the team and everyone who is on that team for the last year get really emotional. Cheerleading is a tough sport to do but the experiences that they gain with their teammates make the it not so
Cheerleading has been extremely important to me. It has definitely impacted my life for the better. I have learned that nobody can change your desire and love for your passion. So many times my coaches or teammates doubted me, but I loved cheerleading so much and never gave up. I spent countless hours trying to improve my tumbling and skills. I went from the freshmen cheer team to the varsity cheer team my sophomore year. Nobody believed I could do it, but I was able to prove them wrong. I learned that it does not matter what negativity people throw at me, I mean so much more than that, and I should never give up.
In the future I will look back and be thankful that my coaches pushed me to my limit and especially thankful that one act of kindness changed it all. Because of cheer I have team skills, communication skills, kindness in my heart, the endurance to push through anything, a college scholarship and another family. Sport or not I love cheer and I wish to share this experience with everyone - next time in more
