LIGHTS. CAMERA. ACTION. The setting was Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, Florida, where the last of the DaSilva sisters arrives. Two older sisters and not a day will go by where I am not extremely grateful for everything they will teach me. Another hot, humid summer day, but still beautiful; my parents take me home to meet my large Cape Verdean family. Taking a sneak peak into my life at age seven, all I wanted to do was play outside, identifying wildlife, running with our family dog, and climbing trees. Then, insert the movie Cheetah by Jeff Blyth into my life, and I am immensely influenced. The story revolves around two California teens that travel to Kenya with their parents and befriend a Masai boy and a cheetah cub. Well …show more content…
In the months following the start of school, I desperately desire to leave the cold of Massachusetts and go back to my hometown of Orlando, Florida. Participating in the Disney College Program strengthened my skills interacting with a variety of guests and all of my spare time involved Disney’s Animal Kingdom; it is clarified to me I need to go back to school, obtain a degree, and work with animals. Back at school, I decide to follow a career in wildlife conservation and ecology. To aid with my career goals I work in the biology lab labeling pelts, bones, and animal specimens. Now, at twenty-four as I reflect throughout the years on my work experiences in retail, food and beverage, as a new students orientation counselor, and a real estate age, every time my love for an animal career prevailed, especially animal education. I believe conflicts and obstacles of life set us up to achieve even greater things. Rewinding quickly to age twenty-one, I complete my four years, obtain a bachelor’s degree, and plan for my first job out of university. That summer as my undergraduate career comes to an end and my first career begins, I join the Humane Society Naples as a veterinary assistant. I helped medically examine shelter animals, medicate, vaccinate, proper animal restraint, foster services, secretarial duties, and helped other areas of operation, also volunteering at the Southwest
When the lanes start to wear down players must start making adjustments. These types of players have found success in switching to a less reactive ball while playing the same line. The strongest types of ball motions are often rolled very deep in the lane even though the pattern allows for many different entry angles. Bowlers have often found that different lane surfaces affect the ball motion, making some shots harder than others. Another pattern, referred to as the Cheetah pattern, one of the shortest, lies at only about thirty-five feet down the lane. The name implies that players should use faster ball speeds to create straighter angles on the lane. On the PBA tour, this pattern is one of the higher scoring patterns but is tougher for non-professionals
My ultimate goal is to work with exotic zoo animals, specifically working at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom. Once I feel that it is the appropriate time, I would love to have the chance to open up my own mixed practice, focusing on lower prices and free clinics for people who have a hard time paying for the medical care of their animals; as well as work with local farmers and members of 4-H and FFA. I would also love to find time in my busy schedule to donate some of my time to local shelters when working at the Animal Kingdom. As well as once I open my own clinic, to work with the shelters so they have the opportunity to get the medical treatment for their animals at a low charge or no charge at all. As if this wasn’t enough to keep me busy I would like to own a small farm with a garden and a few different types of livestock to help educate the public on 4-H, FFA, livestock, and the agriculture community. One of the ways I plan on achieving the goal of educating the public is by having “A Day at The Farm” where the public can come and meet members of 4-H and FFA and learn firsthand about animals and the opportunities these organizations give to their members. I would also love to have the opportunity to travel to Africa and work with some of the animals on the preservations, and with some of the locals and help their livestock. This career
Did you know that not all wild animals could roar? Which animal looks like it has been crying for three months? Find out in this reading. In addition, by exploring its predatory nature, its physical characteristics, its habitat, and its social structure, the reader can understand the importance of its place in nature (Thesis statement)
Hilborn, A. et al. Cheetahs modify their prey handling behavior depending on risks from top predators. Behav. Ecol. Sociobiol. 72, 74 (2018).
Stereotypic behaviours (SB) can be caused by a lack of stimulation in their environment or lacking of wanting or needing to perform certain behaviours, which may cause stress in this animal. SB don’t usually have a clear purpose and are reduced by the easiest technique; Environmental enrichment (Mason et al., 2007). A captive Cheetahs past experiences, a new environment even an illness could trigger stress resulting in SB being performed. This doesn’t necessarily mean the individual is distressed, the individual may be bored so it paces to occupy itself, but this isn’t natural. If visitors see an animal showing SB they may assume that the animal is stressed and in a bad state of welfare; this is not a correct representation of this species or of the zoo.
The Cheetah, also known as "Series 81", was a line of semi-automatic, compact, blowback operated pistol that was designed by the Beretta in Italy. Production of the Cheetah began in the 1976 and include also models in .32 ACP. So the model Cheetah can be chambered with .32 ACP ammunition. Operation of the Cheetah is blowback, with a single or double action trigger mechanism and with exposed hammer. The magazine release button is placed in the left side of the grip, located between the grip retaining screws. The frame is made of aluminum alloy. Slide and barrel are either made of carbon steel or stainless steel. Usage of the material depends on the model variation. The pistol is intended for off duty police or pistol carry permit holders who
Did you know that a male cheetahs are called king cheetahs? Read this paper and you will learn about cheetahs characteristics, types, habitats, and cool things they can do.
What animal do you know can compete with a sports car in a race? Take a wild guess. Cheetahs! Cheetahs are the best because they’re the fastest land animal. Also, they are fascinating felions and have many special features like no other animal. The cheetah is primarily found in Africa (D’Silva). They are made for speed. “Built more like greyhounds than typical cats, cheetahs are adapted for brief but intense bursts of speed (Smithsonian). In Africa, everyone head to the lion’s cage expecting to see the lions because they are the king of Africa as the movie, “The Lion King” describes. However, because cheetahs are the fastest land animals, lions can not compete with it, and cheetahs have many features that any
So I stepped away from the idea of working with animals to look at other ideas. After almost giving up hope that I would not find a career that I would want, I found Unity College’s Environmental Science quiz on Facebook. Skimming it over, I decided to give it a shot and checked it out. After answering the questions it asked, the quiz paired me to the school’s Captive Wildlife Care and Education major. I knew right then that this school was right for me.

Wild Animal Care: Then and Now was a highly informative lecture that compared the care of wild animals in the 70’s to the care of them today. Professor Nelson described his personal experience working with wild animals in the 70s.Professor Nelson got a biology major and after college, he hitchhiked to Alaska where he eventually became a dog catcher. Most of his training was on the job, learning as he went. This is a common thread throughout Nelson’s experiences with animals in the 70’s. Things were more laid back then if you wanted to help animals you went and helped animals. His experiences working for a wildlife rehabilitation center in Georgia was also highly informative. He rehabilitated a variety of mammals and birds in hope
One of the most important adaptations that allow the cheetah to reach their high speeds is their long and highly flexible spine, (Goto et al., 2013). These flexible spines allow for a more extensive range of motion, enabling them to make 22 foot long strides and cover ground quickly. The cheetah has other unique skeletal adaptations that greatly increase the amount of muscle movement that they can achieve. There are several types of muscle fiber that make up skeletal muscles: Type 1, Type IIa, Type IIb, and Type IIx. Cheetahs have been found to have a low percentage of Type I fiber and a high percentage of Type IIx fibers, (Goto et al., 2013). The former fiber type is a muscle fiber with a high metabolic cost of maintenance and a small force
Since I was child, I’ve always had a love of feline creatures. I admired the way cats could walk and you couldn’t hear them. I enjoyed the saying that cats always land on their feet because I never saw a clumsy cat. My grandmother started buying me books educating me on wild life and the big cats of the wild. I came across the cheetah and fell in immediate love. Reaching speeds of 70 mph I couldn’t believe it! I had to do more research. I had to learn more. I would watch several shows that revealed that all is not fair in the wild. There is an estimated 7,500 cheetahs left in Africa. The local farmers there hunt the cheetahs that kill off their livestock. Slowly they’re being force to share space with other large animals. Lions and hyenas both wait for cheetahs to hunt and take their kill after the cheetahs are
I’ve always known my path in life, ever since I was a little girl. My mind constantly revolved around one idea; working with animals. Nobody knew better than I that this was my fate, my purpose. I dreamt of being able to work alongside a variety of creatures, no matter the species; I’m not afraid of much. My biggest opportunity came to me in the late spring of 2017. It was like I was given a gift by the gods themselves; I was chosen to volunteer at the zoo.
