Chevrolet has a wide range of vehicle models and sizes sold in a variety of countries all over the world. There are several strengths and weaknesses associated with the wide range of product mix produced by the company. Chevrolet has a wide range of innovative products and designs along with strong branding strategies, as well as known product durability. The company’s product mix includes large trucks, delivery vans, full-size, mid-size, compact, and subcompact automobiles, sports cars, and racecars as well (Ferrell & Hartline, 2014). Chevy has developed a strong and authentic brand known for it’s quality and durability. Chevrolet is known to have a competitive advantage over many other brands, particularly Ford. General Motors uses the the chevrolet brand to promote diversity on a larger scale, compared to any other brand. Some of the weaknesses of the company include the failed vehicles like the Chevy Corvair, which did not sell well at all. Safety issues and recalls, along with consumer complaints of poor quality in some of products made for a lot of negative publicity. Many of the manufacturing and design issues were with some of Chevy’s most popular models. Recalls on so many vehicles over a short period of time threatened Chevy’s reputation with consumers and the ability for GM to deliver quality products that people could depend on, this affected sales in a major way (Weaknesses, 2011). Overall Chevrolet has worked over the years to brand itself as a part of American heritage.
