Gum Chewing, a dangerous Threat
Gum, a tasty treat to chew on, but this treat can result in affecting your health. Studies defined that chewing gum can cause a person’s jaw to be used to temporomandibular joint disorder. The nasty treat that people touch or see can make them disgusted, chewing gum makes public, or private places unsanitary. In addition, chewing gum in experiments didn’t really help students to regain memory. Chewing gum should be prohibited in Middle schools, for students wellness, and health.
(TS) Chewing gum makes places unsanitary. (Lead-In) Mr. Jake Miller even states that middle school is 60 years old, and is prohibited to chew gum since there was gum in water fountains.

(Lead-In) To find out, scientists experimented on the test takers to find the results, in the lab. The effect only lasted few minutes, but researchers think that chewing gum can give students in some advantage. (Evidence) In article 3 it states “ The chewing motion gets the blood flowing to the head, teachers suggest, where it improves memory, according to how quickly a test - taker can recall information in the lab. The effect only lasted a few minutes, but researchers think chewing gum before the test could give students an advantage in some ways”. (Analysis) Even Though researchers tell chewing gum can increase heart rate and sending the blood to the brain about 15 to 20 min. Onyer said that chewing gum didn’t show improvements, which indicates that gum can have little effect on memory. Article 2 states that “ Chewing gum is known to increase heart rate and blood pressure, sending more blood to the brain for a total of about 15 to 20 min. Mild exercise probably has the same effect, as it also gets your heart rate up, ‘’ Onyer said, the test takers who chewed gum entire time didn’t show this improvement. (Conclusion) Instead, students can chew on gum only during the test period to regain
Wrigly Eclispe Chewing gum ran an advertising campaign stating their gum killed germs that caused bad breath, while their closest competitors only masked the smell of bad breath. The claim that Wrigley Gum kills bad breath germs is untrue. The gum had and has no ‘mechanism or chemical’ to kill germs that cause bad breath in the human mouth. The validity of this claim can be tested by (1) reviewing the active ingredients or chemicals in the gum and determining if those ingratiates neutralize germs that cause bad breath or (2) doing a before and after mouth germ test.
My first reason as to why we should be allowed to chew gum is because it can help certain people focus better. The more focused you are the more accurate and aware you are. Chewing gum also makes you answer questions far more quickly correctly. Finally, if you chew gum than you can focus longer meaning that you could take in more information. I usually have a hard time focusing so even if these
According to Jake Miller, “Compared to the high school that I taught at, at which is less than 10 years old - i still remember going to get a drink from the water fountain that was splattered in gum, someone even wrapping their gum around the faucet” (The Educator's Room). Gum chewing is not allowed in many schools, but most students do not follow the rules and chew their gum anyways. However, teachers should still allow chewing gum in classrooms. If the students would to agree to dispose of their gum properly, and chew it without anyone hearing them, gum should be allowed.
re One reason kids should be allowed to chew gum at school.Chewing gum helps kids stay more focus at school. For example One study even showed that students who chew gum during a test scored higher than those who did not. Kids should be able to chew gum to pay more attention. “Experts even say that students do better in school because gum makes students more at ease”. Students do better in school with chewing gum because it helps them concentrate. Gum is helping kids think in school and work harder.
The two just went hand in hand. Researches state that by 1890, “The average American gnawed through 3 pounds of tobacco” (Hamilton). The Major League Baseball Association was founded in 1869, so they were gaining popularity at the same point in time. They have been a pair since the very beginning, when “the great Babe Ruth smoked cigars off the field and chewed on it” (Hamilton). The legend and quite possibly the “best player” to play the game used tobacco every day, so it is an iconic part of baseball. Chewing tobacco goes together with baseball just as peanuts and hot dogs do. Some people believe it is a part of the game that should forever be instilled. These people also believe that the players are adults who should be able to make their own decision. A major league player, Jack Cust of the Seattle Mariners stated, “There are a lot of guys that chew. We’re all grown adults, so I do not see why we can’t do what other grown adults do” (Hamilton). What these players do not realize is that they are being used as free advertisement for tobacco companies, which emulates the use of tobacco even further than what is already advertised in
SMACK! SMACK! POP! The teacher quietly pulls me out in the hall and ask if I have gum I sadly say yes, and I have to throw it away. I am going to try to make people able to chew bubble gum in class. What is really wrong with gum it’s not bad . People in our middle school or even elementary have probably been written up millions of times or have been told to throw it away a million times because they were chewing bubble gum. Bubble gum isn’t a crime so why should people have to throw away their store bought bubble gum that cost money. I think people should be able to chew bubble gum during class to take things out of you head that you don’t need to think about .
The 2016-17 school year at Cooper Middle School brought forth many changes within the school, including the ability to chew gum. Principal Robert Gurney said that “decades of students have been asking for this opportunity” when he spoke to the 8th grade class on the first day. Most people were overjoyed at learning this news, and have already jumpstarted their gum-chewing. There are a few conditions, though: gum is not allowed in the music room, band/orchestra room, gyms, or cooking lab, all for obvious reasons. However, this hasn’t seemed to put a damper on students’ feelings towards the new policy. “The new gum chewing policy seems to be helping students concentrate more in the classroom.” These wise words came from an anonymous CMS student,
One reason why I believe gum should be allowed at school is because studies have proven that it increases grade point average. Baylor College of Medicine studied 108 eighth graders for 14 straight weeks. Half of them chewed gum during school work and homework while the other half didn’t. They noticed a three percent raise in the grades of those who chewed gum. If we were allowed to chew gum during school work and tests but then had to spit it out at the door when class was over, our grades would also have the chance to increase. For this reason I believe that chewing gum would be beneficial to students with memory problems that need a little extra boost to help them reach their full potential. This way teachers and students would both benefit for this new rule.
GUM CHEWING IS AGAINST THE RULES AT GREENBRIER MIDDLE SCHOOL. The reason I am copying this paragraph is because I was chewing gum in class. Gum chewing is not allowed in school for the following reasons:
Some may say that gum is bad for your teeth. Sixty to seventy percent of bubble gum is sugar. However there are sugarless gum and dental gum. Sugar-free gum helps to clean teeth, Studies have shown that chewing sugar-free gum after meals and snacks can help rinse off and neutralize the acids released by the bacteria in plaque, which are harmful to tooth enamel. Those are good for your teeth and strengthens your mouth, but still taste great. All people could learn that there are different types of gum that are better for your mouth.
In the website (chew on this CNN) the woman said that the chewing motion in gum helps many people calm themselves. This evidence is important because if people get frustrated in school they can calm themselves by chewing on gum. In (why chewing gum in school should be allowed in school)
Schools around the world, including Freeburg Community High School, have had to install nicotine detectors to catch those who sneak in Vapes or Juuls, e-cigarettes, into school bathrooms and classrooms. “E-cigarettes are devices that heat a liquid into an aerosol that the user inhales. The liquid usually has nicotine and flavoring in it, and other additives. The nicotine in e-cigarettes and regular cigarettes is addictive. E-cigarettes are considered tobacco products because most of them contain nicotine, which comes from tobacco,” (Know the Risks: E-Cigarettes & Young People). E-cigarettes are just as harmful as regular cigarettes and should not be sold.
Chewing gum in school is a heated issue because many people think it is rude and messy. Others argue it can help students focus, improve memory when taking tests, and relax while doing schoolwork or a test. But the negative argument is misguided because the mess wouldn’t happen if students were allowed to have gum, and therefore throw it away without feeling guilty. Still, the actual question that should be debated is what the benefits of chewing gum in school are.
Tobacco is becoming to be a huge problem in the middle school. . Tobacco contains more than 4,000 different chemicals. EXPLAIN IT. A. Studies also show that because the brain is still in the development process, and if you choose to start smoking, it will cause lower grades in school. So, why not help students do better in school? Not only smoking causes health problems, but it also causes short life expectancy. If you help them now, all youth will have a chance of a longer, and a happier life!
Another, reason kids and students should be able to chew gum during school is it has also been scientifically proven to help improve the students memory. For example, when students are studying for a test it could help them remember what they studied about. Next, it can also help them remember what they learned that day during school thanks to they were
