In a country like Singapore with high-end modes of transportation, including mass rapid transit trains where chewing gums would get stuck between train doors causing the trains to stop as doors could not fully close, there has been two incidents of disruption caused by chewing gums which were the immediate factors that led to the banning of the product as stated by the Environment Ministry of Singapore, an organization formed in September 1972 which would later on be renamed Ministry of Environment and Water Resources.
