HRDV- 3330-10SU12 1. Imagine that it's your responsibility to select an ethics officer for your organization. What qualities, background, and experience would you look for? Why? I would look for someone who has excellent ethics. A candidate would be someone who looks at the letter of the law when developing guidelines and knows what the industry standard is for those guidelines. Someone who can sees both sides of an issue. A specific background is not needed for this position. Knowledge of the specific business can sometimes be important, as is a working familiarity with key operational, legal, HR, security and accounting issues within the organization. Yes, every year we receive employee surveys that ask if we are satisfied with the ethics program that is in place. 9. How would you raise an ethical concern in this organization? List all of the resources available. Which ones would you/they likely use? Why or why not? I would use the hotline since it is anonymous. Other ways an ethical concern can be raised is through one’s supervisor, the HR liaison in the dept., or by going straight to the HR department. 10. Imagine that you're the CEO of a small manufacturing company. An employee has dumped toxic waste in a nearby stream. What would you do? Who would you call into your office and what would you want to know? Develop a short-term and long-term action plan for dealing with the crisis. Who would you communicate with and why? I would fire the employee immediately. I would question his supervisors and co-workers to see how and why it was done. The plan would be to seek out legal counsel, then to see if this is the sort of thing that our insurance company would pay to correct. I would be proactive and clean the damage in the short term and also correct any wrongs that the dumping caused. Long term, I would start a more strict
