Why I Want To Be A Chief Essay

My desire for a career in law enforcement started while pursuing my undergraduate degree at the University of Central Florida. As a freshman biology major with hopes of becoming a Radiologist, it did not take me long to realize the medical field was not for me. Peers in my classes had a passion and interest for the material that I did not possess. My grades poorly reflected the type of student I was. Realizing it was time for a change, at the end of my sophomore year I started seeking guidance. Unbeknownst to me, my disinterest in the curriculum was a major contribution to my poor performance. I completed career assessments and sat with academic counselors in several different areas of study. I was feeling more confused than ever because Criminal Justice courses often sparked my interest, but I hesitated due to the dangerous nature of police work.

The criminal justice field has careers that provide an individual with great rewards and significant opportunities to an extent that the profession is considered as one with the bright spots in employment. Even though education in this field has had a checkered history and past, it probably has a bright future because of the increased quest for quality in criminal justice education. In the past few years, the criminal justice field has been characterized with an agenda that seeks to ensure quality while significantly extending the scope and dept of education in this profession. Consequently, few people would disagree with the fact that solid education has become an important facet of any career in this field just like other professions. However, the importance of college education and the extent of needed schooling are huge concerns for people considering criminal justice careers.

Many people studying in the field of Criminal Justice should choose their career carefully. There are many interesting careers that are arising as the years pass by. To become a successful employee you need to be able to fulfill many requirements, qualifications, and trainings.

Before the days when I had a confident mind about what I wanted to achieve in life in order to fulfill lifelong goals, committing to a career in service to criminal justice and law had always intrigued me as a way to earn a living. In high school there was an extracurricular Criminal Justice class that I remember having a profound impact on my life. The lessons of how the structure of the system worked as well as the importance of an honest and honorable way to earn a living played to a keen and personal interest I had in the field. At the time it was a very new post-9/11 world, and departments such as Homeland Security and other federal sectors of government were on my radar as possible outlets for a potential career. Furthermore, I enjoy the various jobs that Law Enforcement has to offer. Last reason, would be to be part of an exclusive organization that I can be proud of. My past experiences in my work history have been mostly related to customer service, problem solving, and interpersonal skills. I also have interacted with plentiful of people, on many different social levels and many diverse cultures.

His duties as the Officer in Charge require him to contemplate all aspects of the mission and ensure the unit is within compliance of all Coast Guard Regulations while simultaneously managing our commitment to a sound level of work life balance for each member. This paper reflects about criminal justice careers that will help me get knowledge and get a better idea about the career that I choose. Does obtaining a degree in a particular field grantee you a successful career within that field? As for African Americans, will most criminal justice graduates have a career in their field of study post graduation? How long will it take to achieve a career in the criminal justice field? The theme of this research is to examine the advantages of obtaining a criminal justice degree and how effective it is within individuals’ careers within the field of criminal justice. Through this research readers will be educated on the effectiveness of having a criminal justice degree. Current undergraduate students will grasp an idea of whether obtaining a criminal justice degree is useful or not. This particular subject area has been research and examined for years.

Criminal Justice is a wide and varied field, with jobs ranging from police officer to analyst to court reporter. Each occupation helps the community in some way, whether that be helping protect citizen from criminals, or analyzing the evidence that will help catch criminals. Despite the vast differences between jobs in the Criminal Justice field, each has one thing in common: Criminal Justice workers cannot do their jobs correctly without the necessary funding. The issue of funding affects some careers, like police officers, more than others, but lack of funding still poses a large threat to the entire field. This paper will examine five sources that discuss the lack of funding in the Criminal Justice field, as well as how various people and organizations are affected by the budget cuts and the limitations of these sources.

Of course when figuring out what career you may want to pursue it is essential to inquire information from individuals who are working in that field of interest. In my case I decided to interview a longtime friend and active police officer in my hometown community. Officer Delancy from the Stuart Police Department located in Martin County, Florida. Officer Delancy has been a patrol officer for the last over twelve years and counting. As I talked with officer Delancy one question I asked him was why did he want to become an officer of the law. His reply was “I always knew I wanted to make my community a better place to live in and becoming an officer is one way I can help to do just that.” Officer Delancy felt the need to protect and serve our

The career that I have chosen to do my research on is a criminal investigator. A criminal investigators task can vary on the location or the crime that has been committed. However, the most common things that a CI has to do is look for clues so the police can catch the criminal who has committed the crime. Some of the responsibilities that a CI has to do are to investigate criminal acts such as robberies, sexual assaults, homicides, or to interview suspects. The reason why I want to become a criminal investigator is because it seems like a job where you can be outside instead of being stuck in a room doing the same thing for many hours.

My decision to become a Criminal Justice major was not a simple one. My high school cross country coach was also a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer who told me that I had a very “police-like” attitude, which ignited a spark in my brain. Initially I thought it would be pretty cool to chase people down, shoot guns, and have my picture plastered on the front page of every newspaper for taking down the biggest drug cartel in the United States although my mind was still set on majoring in Athletic Training.

There are many people that play an important role in maintaining safety and equality in the communities we live in. As a research topic, I got a chance to learn a little about some of the different professions in the criminal justice system. Based on individual interviews, I will discuss my findings from members of law enforcement, the court systems and the correctional department. The representatives interviewed were: a Sheriff Deputy working patrol from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, a Criminal Defense Attorney from a private practice law firm, a Deputy Probation Officer from the Sacramento Probation Department and also a sheriff’s deputy from the Sacramento County Main Jail. This paper will present a brief overview of their jobs, their personal views on their careers and department goals and a summary of what I learned.

Criminal justice has been a passion of mine for many years. It wasn’t until recently that I decided to go back to school to obtain my master’s degree in criminal justice. I have chosen to focus on the field of corrections in the criminal justice system. I want to make a difference and help those individuals that need help once being released from a prison setting. There are so many different aspects of criminal justice and it is hard to focus on only one. Corrections is a great place to start in criminal justice and my goal is to thrive in my new career field and be able to climb the corporate ladder in criminal justice. I do believe that it is relevant to obtain my master’s degree in criminal justice to target a position in my desired career field.
