Nature is inherited characteristic that affect development and nurture is environmental condition that effected development. They both have an influence on growth and development in children one way nature influences physical growth is if a child has a chronic illnesses such as asthma, epilepsy, kidney disease and multiple sclerosis. For example people who have multiple sclerosis have problems with their brain and spinal cord people with MS have weakness, tingling, numbness, blurred vison and muscle stiffness. Child who would be diagnosis with MS would have a hard time developing and growing because they man not be able to the things a normal child would be able to. Walking and trying to ride a bike might be harder for them than to a child
One of the main, and most controversial topics discussed in a child’s development is, nature vs. nurture. Nature pertains to genetic influences that a child has inherited from their parents, such as traits, abilities, and capacities. For instance, what color eyes the child may have, how athletic they may be, and even their brain development. Whereas nurture, refers to the environment the child is raised in and how this shapes their behaviors. Such factors can include, the family’s socio-economic status, schooling, parental discipline, as well as whether the child is provided with enough resources. When it comes to nature or nurture having a stronger influence then the other, the answer is both, nature and nurture, influence the outcome of the child. This idea that both nature and nurture, play a part in how the child will develop, is known as the nature-nurture continuum.
Nature Vs Nurture is often the huge debate in psychology when it comes to determining and understanding individual’s characteristics traits. Nature is hereditary to our behavior while nurture is based on our environmental influences. Although most argue whether or not nature or nurture defines our characteristics, I believe both have an impact on we are.
Let me take the general concept of nature vs nurture, nature means innate qualities like human nature, genetics and nurture refer to care given or behavior taught by parents to children or
Nature and nurture refers to the relationship between the development of genetic and environmental factors. (Lynch, pg.48) Nature relates to the “innate abilities arising from genes” whereas nurture refers to the “acquired abilities [that are] learned via interaction with the environment” (Lynch, pg. 48) Psychologists on the environmental side are called empiricists who believe that human development is fully influenced by a person’s environment. (Lynch, pg. 49) On the opposite end are the nativists, who believe that a “person’s development is based
Nature versus Nurture is the issue of the degree to which environment and heredity influence behavior and development. In this issue nature can be defined as, behaviors due to heredity. Which means behaviors are based on the genetic makeup of an individual and is an influence of the individuals' growth and development throughout life. On the other hand nurture are causes of behaviors that are environmental. Which means the influence is from, parents, siblings, family, friends and all other experiences to which the individual is exposed to.
Nature is their biological needs and nurture is there surrounding environment while growing up. The modern approach is that nature and nurture coexist as one. According to Myers (2011), “genes and environment- nature and nurture- work together like two hands clapping (p. 101). An example given by Absher “The epigenome is essentially responsive to environmental stimuli, and how it responds may determine whether or not you get a common disease, like heart disease" (as cited by Absher, p. 3). This statement is saying that a gene that we are born with can be manipulated by the surrounding environment and cause a greater risk of attaining the disease, thus proving the genetics and environment work as
Nature is the genes a person is born with, nurture is how a person is raised, we either inherit it from our parents (genetics) or we learn it from our upbringing (environment). The textbook describes the clarification of nature vs nurture as making a decision, is it “the level of the individual or at the level of the individual differences within a population” (Page 163). If it is the level of the individual then there is no debate of what it is because each person has a unique set of genes. If it is at the level of the individual differences of a population then you can compare differences of genes and environment page 163. For example, if you take a population of a village living on the Yukon River, most of them probably harvest and eat salmon.
Healthy child development is dependent on many factors, one of which is nurturing care. Nurturing care has seven components according to Alderman & Fernald, 2017, the components are protection from harm, stable home environment, access to good nutrition, responsive caregiving, quality health care provided, stimulating/enriching environment, and opportunity for play and exploration. By focusing on nurturing care is to support the brain’s response to early experiences in early childhood that will benefit “acquisition of languages, cognitive skills, and socio-emotional competencies” (Britto et al., 2017). In addition, supportive nurturing in early childhood development (ECD) can have lifelong benefits such as better learning capacity, greater opportunities for achievements, more involvement in community affairs and becoming a productive member of society.
Nature versus Nurture is an argument that is known to directly affect the development of children. Nature is the idea that what an individual accomplishes is due to the the genetic information they have, while nurture is the idea which says the accomplishment of an individual is due to the environment that one is raised in. After understanding what the two mean, I strongly believe that i was influenced more by nurture.
Nurture has many dimensions including; physical envrionemnts and social environments. Physical environments could be good prenatal care and nutrition. Social environments plays a crucial part of young adulthood. Neighborhoods, media, peer pressure, families, and friends are all apart of shaping the social aspect of humans. Nurture influences development in young kids and that is when it is most important. If a child is brought up in a broken household or is not talked to nor is exposed to social activites it can affect them intellectualy. Their speech can be delayed, they get social anxiety, or they do not enjoy social activites. Nature plays a crucial role because nature is their genetic make up or what is encoded in their genes. Nature is what they inheretited from both parents. Nurture is how those encoded genes effect their life. Negative environmental factors effect a childs life negatively. But positive environmental factors can increase their life span and
Life is completely full of emotions that we don’t have time to address. There are often times the past comes back to haunt us, this holds true when our stress levels are super high. High stress levels make us more susceptible to feeling inadequate, insecure and easily angered. If you are not taking the time necessary to nurture yourself while raising kids, ultimately the kids pay for it. This is not what one envisions parenthood to be about, our kids paying for the stress we haven’t taken time to reduce. Today we want to share a few ways to learn how to nurture yourself while raising kids. Just a hint, this won’t take away from your kids, it will actually allow your relationship with them to thrive!
In the world of psychology, nature and nurture have great meanings as to how it affects an individual. It is argued on which one affects someone's personality, behavior traits, and thought process the most. Nature is somebody’s genes, physical traits, and biology and nurture is how someone was raised and how they live including their family, their culture, and the environment in which they are surrounded with. I agree that both nature and nurture have a great impact on many things in a person's life. I know that in my own personal life I have been impacted by both in particular ways.
Personally I feel like, I was influence both nature and nurture. My parent had a huge impact in my childhood development. More or less nature plays role in my development as a young boy. Genetically my father is outdoor person, and I inherited and I have carried that genes influence with me. Even coming to different country and cold environment that hasn’t changed bit. Another genetically inherited is the “color of my skin, eye, and height”. I also believe lower temperament another factor that I gain biologically from my parents as well as grandparents.
There are multiple factors in a child’s development. Parents have a responsibility, as well as a privilege, to contribute to every milestone. Most parents stress over physical and mental stages so much so that play-time is ignored. By making decisions that sacrifice play parents hinder their social development. Parents must take action and encourage their youth to play more, before childhood is lost forever.
The debate between Nature vs. Nurture is the focus on which human behavior is determined by genetics/ biology or is learned through how you interact with the environment that is around you. The role of nature and nurture on development on children is that researchers examine areas of development, such as physical growth, cognition, language, personality and social relationships. Development in different domains are are also included in the study of child development.
