She may one day need physical therapy for this but as of right now she participates in activities such as swimming and using the monkey bars on a play set. She is also always made to carry her bags, and once or twice a week she and her father have fake push up competitions. As a result of her weaker upper trunk she may one day have trouble in fine motor skills, such as forming her letters, but so far she has developed normally.
When did she begin walking?
Around 1 year, she began to walk.
What percentile is Abby in for height and weight?
Abby is in the 50th percentile for weight for kids her age and in the 98th percentile for height.
What have you done for daycare throughout the years?
From birth until September of 2006 Abby remained with me at home. When I finally returned to work Abby’s primary care giver was her father, he stayed home with her from September of 2006 through December of 2006. She was then placed in the care of her aunt’s daycare from December of 2006 until August of 2008 as she then began Preschool at Precious Gems Learning Center.
How is Abby doing academically?
She can recognize and write all of her letters, knows how to spell her first and last name, can recognize and write simple words such as “mom” and “dad”, can recognize numbers up through ten and can count up to about thirty.
Has she received any evaluations from her learning
I observed Harper, a 23 month old little girl that is full of energy. Also participating in the interaction with Harper was her mother and five year old sister, Mya. Harper is very friendly and outgoing. She is very interested “reading books” and loves to be read to. She enjoys helping her mother clean and do simple tasks. She seems to be very confident with and without her mother in her sight. Harper’s father is not actively involved in her life because he lives in another state.
Abby was born in New Hampshire but grew up in Honduras. The family moved to Arizona approximately 6-1/2 years ago. Mrs. Cardenas revealed that she was ill during the first trimester of her pregnancy; resulting in a sixteen pound weight loss. The remainder of the pregnancy and Abby's delivery were unremarkable, with Abby weighing six pounds, six ounces at birth. Mrs. Cardenas reports Abby's medical history to be unremarkable. Developmental milestones were within normal expectancies, speaking at just about two years of age. There is not a history of
Alyssa grew up with her mother, father and brother. She reports having a close relationship with her biological parents; that was until she turned the age of 6. Alyssa’s biological father left the home because he was an abusive husband. He would verbally and physically abuse her biological mother. Since then, Alyssa and her older biological brother were raised by their biological mother. Alyssa’s highest level of education completion is the 9th grade. She is able to read and write proficiently. As for her
Parent reports that Sarahia will assist in dressing by lifting her hands and legs. My mentioned that Sarahia will often request food of liquids by saying, “tengo hambre” (I’m hungry). Mom also reports that Sarahia does not need assistance to eat or drink from a open cup. She will eat independently using proper utensils. Mom mentioned that at daycare Sarahia will take off her shoes and the shoes of her peers.
She is able to do things such as get ready for school, bathe, feed herself and use the bathroom with no assistance. She is behind in academics, and is currently working at a third grade level, while she is in fifth grade. She often gets along with peers and staff but displays aggressive behavior at home. She has trouble following multistep instructions. (Scores are written below.)
Amanda’s level of social interaction is unknown, but she is resistant to visit the playroom. Mom reports that prior to her admittance she demonstrated an advanced vocabulary, but is otherwise a “normal” three-year-old, with a special interest in dolls.
Further, under fine motor – adaptive skills, R.N. was observed to complete all activities that are appropriately for her age. She was able to scribble, dump raisin in the bottle, build towers of 2 and 4 cubes, but was unable to build a 6 tower cube though only 25 -50 % of her age are able to do. Therefore, it was within normal limits for her age. In addition, R.N. was observed to perform all language skills that are appropriate for her age. She was not able to name one picture and to point 4 pictures though at her age it is
She is becoming a great problem solver. Her main problem solving strategy is sounding out. Mesiah will try and sound out each individual sound out loud and then she will try and pronounce the word as whole to the best of her ability. She is also beginning to self-monitor as she is reading and writing. She is thinking about what she writing. She will double check to see if what word she is spelling looks right and sounds right. At times she will refer back to a word at a later time when the correct spelling may come to her. Mesiah really likes asking for help as well. I love to assist Mesiah because I know she does not always get the one on one instruction on a regular basis. And I know that is really what she needs.
Recently, I went to The Happy School, a preschool in my hometown of Smallville, California, to pass the morning with the students there. In the time I spent there, the children, ages 3 to 5, engaged in unstructured play, and sat in a circle for calendar time and reading aloud. The preschool is primarily child-centered in terms of its organization, meaning it incorporates a lot of child directed activity, and less structured, or adult directed, learning (Berk, 2008). I watched the group of about twenty children with the intention of studying them as a whole, but I found myself compelled to watch two children in particular, Addison and Jack, because they displayed particularly intriguing behavior. I did my observation on Todd who is a family-friend of mine. He is 62, married with children, employed, Caucasian, and very busy. A notable difference from what was predicted was that at Todd’s age, he should be cutting back on his hours and preparing for retirement. Todd has retired from one job but now he is starting a new one that is full time and he frequently works overtime. This is unusual to start a whole new career at this age. He is taking a big chance with this decision when people around his age are normally settled in their job and looking to take their jobs till retirement. Another change that was really unexpected was that his sleep has actually improved recently. People at this age usually have disrupted sleep and develop sleep disorders. He did say that the improvement in sleep was from his skin cancer surgeries so, having that worry gone led to the improvements. He could have been sleeping horribly before the surgery and now he could still have sleeping issues but, he does not think about that because he is sleeping better
I first observed Faustine’s biosocial development such as physical growth, gross motor and fine motor skills. Faustine is 3 feet tall and she weighs 41 pounds according to my Aunt. She is a little shorter than a lot of the six year old that she hangs out with and the ones in the park but I think that her height is in the normal range for kids her age
How did you select this research study to analyze? That is, what search terms did you use? What database did you use? What was your rationale for selecting this particular study to analyze over the others identified in the search results? What is the full reference for the study in APA format?
This time, I decided to observe children between the ages of five and six in a kindergarten class room at Maddock Public School. Maddock is a smaller school and there were only five children in the class, all of them were boys. I knew this would be an interesting day, because we learned in class that boys tend to be a little bit more active and disobedient, but I was definitely looking forward to it.
Finally, close to the end of our 45 minutes of observation, Maria removed her daughter from the highchair, and immediately the baby started to run around the house playing with her toys. Maria followed her and provided constant supervision ensuring that her daughter did not get into anything that would hurt her. Maria then made the comment “this is my daily life”, and it was obvious that while she enjoyed caring for her daughter it was an exhausting task. Maria was still in her work clothes, and it was already 6:15 p.m., she then walked in to the kitchen and placed a baby guard gate in the door to prevent her daughter from leaving the kitchen, and started to prepare dinner for the family. The baby sat on a mat rolled out playing with toys and eating cheerios in a bowl with no milk.
Elizabeth is able to pack her lunch with assistance in reading the menu and verbal reminders to pack everything needed for her lunch and snack. needed assistance with putting the right amount in her lunch box at times, trying to take 2 or 3 snacks. Then with reminders to clean the box out so it stayed clean. She is able to tell you her address: the road, She lives on, town She lives in, and state. Has some trouble with the house number and her phone number; gets the numbers confused. We continue to work on memorizing address and phone number with different activities. We have worked on sight words and basic math using games and workbooks to review. We have worked in workbooks to learn about the different states and to learn about different
