They separate families by making arbitrary decisions and by not investigating all sources of evidence or any evidence at all. Some CPS organizations do not always abide by the laws and even fail to follow their own regulations and policies. The children who are safe in the custody of their parents are being violated by a legal system that does not work. CPS organizations need to learn new techniques in distinguishing between real child abuse and parenting.
In the case we are asked to look at with the two little girls, the office was alerted due to neglect and issues of locking the children away in order to not have contact with them and avoid physical discipline. Again having a large amount of experience with this personally I can speak on several different instances in which the agency needs to be involved. My middle son, again who is not my biological child, has 4, soon to be 6 other half siblings by his biological mother. None of which she has custody of. They have all been removed by CPS. In her case it was for the use of narcotics, in and around the children as well as during pregnancy with 4 of the 6 children she has. She is currently pregnant with number 5 and 6 of her living children though technically they are 9 and 10. She has previously had two singleton abortions and an abortion of a set of twin girls. She has had 4 other boys removed now, ages 5, 3, and a set of twin boys who are 18 months. CPS has already stated that the children she is pregnant with now will be removed as well upon their birth. So in a case such as hers, she was given a year to prove to the courts that she wanted to work towards keeping her twins, they set up visitation for her at the cps office, as well as classes for her to attend, weekly drug screens, parenting classes, and set financial goals she had to meet.
The court has made the decision that the Child Welfare program should be given temporary legal custody of your child. Based on state and federal laws the placement of children is only completed with considerable evidence that the child is unsafe due to abuse or neglect. The business practices and decisions made concerning Protective Services are not determined unilaterally but involve many individuals who evaluate the safety and welfare of children with the objective of keeping them safe from abuse and neglect. Making decisions in this fashion ensures that impartial, neutral individuals will facilitate the decision-making rather than one individual. Removing children from their families can be a traumatic, life changing event and is not done without considerable deliberation and
Kelley wants to pass child labor laws to improve the lives of working children; in doing so she goes into detail describing the horrors children face while working. To emphasize her argument Kelley uses facts, appeals to emotions and syntax to prove to the NAWSA that child labor is awful and there must be laws in place to protect them.
Child labor remains a major social issue in the world, it is not as severe an issue as it was centuries ago, but it still affects millions of kids all over the world today. Children have historically been a part of the world's labor force especially, with the arrival of industrialization. There are many occasions throughout history in which children have been indentured or forced into child slavery within the labor market. Children were viewed as a cheap, manageable and sustainable labor resources by many businesses. Child Labor increased in the United States when the population increased. When many immigrants began moving to the United States to rural areas, they began urbanization, which meant that more people moved to urban areas. There were local needs however there weren’t enough workers, so businesses resorted to hiring children.
Child labor in America was a major issue. Back in the 1900’s, children, as young as three years old, worked in factories, mills, on the streets, and even in the coal mines. Earning less than twenty cents an hour, these children were contributing to one-third of their family’s total income. The work conditions, put children in direct contact with danger, had deprived them of a proper education and revoked the child from having a normal childhood. In this summative response I will be discussing Lewis Hines- a photographer who ventured all over the states- and the immaculate photos he took of children working in harsh conditions and how one’s social class can affect one’s life-chances. I will also mention how child labor has improved over the
Texas has tried to reshape history by; erasing the word “slaves” and describing the Atlantic slave trade as though they were bringing “millions of workers” to slave master plantations in the South (the next page has a picture right out of one of Texas’ history books). Most definitions of workers are vague defining it as; a person or thing that works and a laborer or employee: Nothing really on rather this labor is willingly or forced upon a person and I only say that in leu of “Child labor” (not really going into that subject). I’m pretty sure a consensus would describe a worker as a paid voluntary person. A former slave wouldn’t describe slavery as being a worker, that’s for sure.
Late Entry - Mr Rodney Thomas, returned this worker's call yesterday around 5PM. He stated his children were removed from his care based on false child abuse and placed them in their mother's home in April of this year even though he has a custody granted from a Judge in California.
I understand what you're going through child protective services always after my auntie. That's why she's always state to state. Yes she slips up but everybody makes mistakes. Seeing your child get taken away hurts the most. After its all said and done child protective services needs to come up with new rules and regulations. They take your kid because of what they hear. It varies either way it depends on the caseworker or the case. Some are more concerned for kids who aren't being abused instead of the kids who are. They are focused on the littlest situation of the big . They do a little investigating and that's that. They need better environments for the kids. Bad things happen in there and it's nothing the kids can help because they're trapped until adulthood. They miss their parents and the parents miss
I feel that child labor was a horrible idea, and not just because that’s what everyone feels. I can not put into words how bad it is. Let’s just go back to the 1800’s, women with their dresses, hats, gloves, and umbrellas. Men with their suits, canes, hats, and monocles. The horse and carriages riding by, and you are wishing you knew what that would feel like, your parents can’t afford any of that stuff. You hear screaming and cursing. It's your “boss” telling you to get back to work. You have been forced to work at a sweatshop since the age of 10 to support your family. The big man throws you into the building. All of the other workers are the same age as you. All of yours clothes are dirty and you're sweating. The job is to work the machines.
The Adoption and Safe Families Act significantly altered federal foster care policy by instituting key changes such as defining when it is reasonable to pursue family reunification, expediting timelines for making permanency decisions, recognizing kinship care as a permanency option, and providing incentives to the state for increasing the number of adoptions. Courts play a key and often overlooked role in achieving safety and permanency for children in foster care. Efforts to improve court performance have focused on increasing the responsiveness and capacity of courts. Such legislation frequently requires Federal departments and agencies, such as the Children’s Bureau within the U.S. Department of Health and
In review of your correspondence and the request that the Department of Human Service, Child Welfare immediately return your great grandchildren to your custody and expedited certification so that you may be a placement for the children; stating that the children never should have been removed from your home as there was no danger present. You support this by stating that there was a lack of physical harm to them as shown in a doctor’s appointment that followed their removal from your residence. You go on to state that it is your belief that DHS, Child Welfare may have provided support to another family member so that they might be a permanent placement for the children instead of you, and that you are financially equipped enough not to need said support, which further verifies you as the most appropriate placement for these children.
"Please, sir, I want some more." (Dickens, date, p. ?) Although not provocative today, this quote became extremely famous because it calls into question the practice of child labor. Oliver Twist, by Charles Dickson, was written in the Victorian era when factories and businesses were notorious for employing young children. Charles Dickens used his book, to bring a new connotation and worldwide exposure to the exploitation of children. In fact, the issue of Child labor still remains a persistent problem In the current modern world. Child labor, as defined by the International Labor Organization, is “work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity” (n.d., para 2). This organization also notes that this is often
Rafael is a young boy at the age 7 who works in the mines. As he separates the coal from the rocks, he has blood coming out of one finger and blood dripping out from another. He inhales black coal dust and when he coughs, all you see is a big black cloud of dust. He walks home hoping that one day there would be someone who would help him and the other workers. Later that day he was informed about the progressives. As a progressive, I have decided to give $600,000 to child labor, $300,000 to food safety, and $100,000 to woman's suffrage.
In the United States, child labor and sweatshops are illegal, and society frowns upon any business that exploits children in the production of goods. Though most would say that they would not support a company that uses child labor to produce its goods, almost everyone has, in fact, knowingly or unknowingly, supported these businesses in one way or another. Children are involved in the production of many of the everyday goods we import from overseas, including the manufacturing of clothes, shoes, toys, and sporting equipment, the farming of cocoa, cotton, sugarcane, and bananas, and the mining of coal, diamonds, and gold (The U.S. Dept. of Labor). Often, we are blinded to this fact.
