Childhood is meant to embrace playing in the sun and the rain as well as being carefree as opposed to living in the darkness of the soul. Child abuse remains one of the most contentious issues in our society that affects many children who lack the courage to open up about it as a result of stigmatization and low self-esteem. On the other hand, wife abuse is also a rampant practice that arises out of a marriage. Both child and wife abuse can fall under a form of domestic violence referred to as family violence. In many jurisdictions, a child is defined as one who has not attained the age of majority. Nevertheless, it is important to note that the majority age varies from country to country. Religiously, a child is perceived as a gift. Children ought to be provided for all the basic necessities that are sufficient their survival. According to the Section 3 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the best interests of the child ought to prevail under all circumstances. Child abuse does not fall under the best interest principle thereby requiring the perpetrators of such acts to face the wrath of the law.
