Family Assessment
Family is a set of interacting individuals related by blood, marriage, cohabitation or adoption who independently performs relevant functions by fulfilling expected roles (Edelman & Mandle, 2010, p. 173). The student was instructed to perform a family assessment. She chooses the Isaacs family to do the assessment on. Annette is 47 years old. She is a nurse practitioner, she is 5ft 5inches and weighs 290lbs. Howard is 46 years old. He is an over the road tractor trailer driver. He is 6ft tall and weighs 220 lbs. This family has a very sedentary lifestyle. Their only exercise is walking with the exception of Jordan. He loves to go outside and play. He also loves playing Xbox Kinect and the Wii. By trade Howard leads a very sedentary lifestyle, driving trucks for a living. Family fun time is also sedentary which consist of going to the movies, watching television and playing games. The family was encouraged to try and eat together at least two nights per week and to continue trying to incorporate vegetables in the meal plan. The family was also encouraged to grocery shop and cook together when possible. The family was also encouraged to increase their activity level for example riding bikes and going to the gym.
Since Jordan was placed on ADHD medication the student want to see if Jordan was having any side effects from the medication Vyvanse. A. Isaacs (personal communication, March 27, 2012) stated “Jordan was placed on medication because he could not focus in school and his grades were suffering. He has done well with the medication; he is able to sleep and has no stomach problems or diarrhea”. The family Bowel and bladder habits are within normal limits with the exception of Jermaine. His mother noticed he is frequently waking up at night to go to the bathroom which is affecting his rest. Jermaine sleeps 6 hour per night at most.
