For many years parents and children have been negotiating if competitive sports should be played by children. Studies show that competitive sports should not be for children. This is because competitive sports are shown to cause stress, overuse of the body, and serious injuries which could affect them later in life.
To begin with, competitive sports are shown to cause stress to children who are under the age of 15. This is shown, “In a series of studies conducted at UCLA... about 20 percent of kids reported high levels of stress before the game, and many of them reported high anxiety after games that their teams had lost.” (Frank.L, 2014) This leads to over 20 percent of children dropping out of sports at a young age. This sadly leads to obesity and even worse. This could easily be prevented if the child plays recreational sports at a young age. Also, children face the stresses of having to win because their parents pay tons of money and pressure them to play sports. “Seventy percent of children drop out of sports by age 13, and a big reason is that their parents are putting too much pressure on them...” (Braff.D, 2014) Children feel if they do not win they would

Mark Hyman says, “Every year more than 3.5 million children under the age of 15 require medical treatment for sports injuries, nearly half of which are the result of simple overuse.” (Jane.E, 2010) Children just want to play non stop. This is good but to a point this could be abrasive. Many children would feel a pain but just walk it off without telling anyone, this leads to injuries. Making the switch to recreational sports is not bad at all. You don't get the risk of overuse because practice is once or twice a week with one game on weekends. Comparing this to competitive sports, practice is three to four times a week with tournaments and games on weekends. This will almost always lead to a form of
Competitive sports in some cases are becoming very unhealthy for children. Most children would rather play on a losing team than sit on the bench of a winning team. Youth sports are a great idea to get children up and active, as well as improve their social skills. Just like every other thing in life it is important to practice and work hard to achieve success. However it is unhealthy to push for results over the needs or wants of the child. Aside from the mental stress that young athletes may experience from intense training and physical play long lasting injures is now a growing concern. Fact is competitive sports is a double edge sword if done right it is the greatest thing world, but if done wrong it can be very unhealthy for a child.
Every year, 3.5 million children ages 14 and under get hurt playing competitive sports, according to www.alfiekohn.org’s article “The Case Against Competition”. Even though some people believe that competitive sports allow children to build confidence, that is not true. Competitive sports cause injury and pressure. It would be better if competitive sports were removed from the life of children so it does not cause more harm.
“Are Competitive Sports Bad for Kids?” Mar 31, 2011 | By Rachel Nelson, Web, 20
One reason that competitive sports are negative for children is the risk of injury when participating in sports. As said by Bruce Keller, contributing author of “hey data, data, -- swing!” “The No. 1 fear of sports parents is seeing their child injured on the field. And due to the United States' growing population and sports participation, that's now more common. According to the
Some people say that kids should not play competitive sports, but when you really think about it they should be playing competitive sports, but others say that kids should not play competitive sports until there older but by the age of 15, 80% out of 45 million kids have already quite the sport they were playing but three out of four families with school-aged children have at least one playing an organized sport out of 45 million children around the world. And out of all the kids around the world 45 million of them are getting healthier as they play sports and the rest of the kids aren’t learning anything or getting healthy/stronger because they aren’t doing anything.
Some people think it’s ok to have their children in competitive sports, but others think the exact opposite. In my opinion kids should be aloud to play in competitive sports because “they can build on their skills like teamwork and concentration level” (The Benefits of Competitive Athletic Sports Participation in Today’s Sports Climate). They could also learn to take “responsibility for their success or failure with a positive attitude” (20 proven reasons why competition is good), last but not least they could find and “build on their strengths and weaknesses” (20 proven reasons why competition is good).
Kids these days are getting and healthy by joining sports team at any age or playing competitive sports.. But sports isn't all in fun and games their is such downside of playing competitive sports. Especially when young kids are playing competitive sports.
Competitive sports aren't great for kids like people will say, competitive sports lead to harsh circumstances like high cost, pressure and cutting, are all part of the reasons competitive sports are not as beneficial as recreational teams. Recreational teams provide some of the same health benefits competitive sports do they have just recreational teams are not competitive and don’t pose as much of the injuries. Competitive sports nowadays are just simply too hard on kids. There are better options if kids want to get together and play sports there are always recreational teams or kids can just go to a designated area to play the sports.
Have you ever been hurt so bad that you you cried out a puddle? Think of anywhere your whole body or just a part of your body that you hurt. Kids from all the way around the world have been getting hurt that bad in there life & stopped doing their dream because of some of the injuries. In 8 articles it says some tragic things that can happen to you while playing a competitive sport. But it also says what it does to you when you play a competitive sport and how you shouldn't play a sport. My opinion is kids shouldn't play competitive sports. This is important because kids all the time if they play a competitive sport get bad injuries that can scar them for life and other things to.
Some think that competitive sports are bad or almost terrible for kids while others think it is an opportunity for children. It is clear that sports are good for young adults because it can help them be more successful in school and in the future because there will be pressure.
Experts say that competitive sports are not all that bad for kids, especially those eleven and up. But sports should not be taken too seriously until about thirteen years old. Kept within reason, competitive sports are not all that bad for kids, especially those 11 and older. Kids involved in sports usually do better in school, are less likely to abuse drugs or alcohol. Competition teaches us to bring our best effort. Keeping score gives us extra motivation to do our best. Young kids also have good relationships with peers and have better health overall. Competition teaches us to manage our nerves. When something is out of our comfort zone or pushes us to perform, it’s normal to feel fluttery within. Competition brings those butterflies out, so we can work on managing them. These are all good facts but there are a lot of young kids who are put through intense training daily by their parents which causes injuries and
Do you have a passion, something you love to do more than anything? Imagine people trying to stop you from doing what you love because they think it’s not useful or a waste. Some people say competitive sports cost too much and they are way too dangerous for young kids to participate in. However, for many youth, competitive sports play a positive role. When kids play competitive sports, they are happier and they learn how to be healthy. Also, they learn life lessons that they will need for the future.
More than 30 million children participate in competitive sports. Every year there are over 3.5 million injuries of those 30 million. Children should not play competitive sports. Competitive sports are physically hard on the players. It can also be emotionally harmful as well.
The first reason that kids should not play competitive sports is that they are stressful. Kids who play competitive sports often experience stress from wanting the recognition involved with winning. According to LiveStrong, “The mounting pressure to play well can increase stress and make children feel bad and lose confidence should they make mistakes or lose” (Huggins 2017). This shows that kids want to win and be the best player on the team, which can result in stress or pressure. When kids are put on the bench or the team loses, the players may experience low self-esteem. Also, participating in a competitive sport also takes up time because of the intense training schedule that is demanded. Because of that, kids may stress about schoolwork or other activities. This can develop failing grades or other consequences. Time.com states, “Student-athletes tend to take easier classes and get lower grades than non-athletes” (Square 2015). This is important to notice because the intense schedules that the athletes have may not allow enough time for schoolwork. The schoolwork may not be completed or fully understood, which can lead to lower academic excellence and poor grades. Competitive sports are unhealthy to kids’ minds. They can cause stress and pressure, and may lead to poor grades and other academic issues.
The first reason why kids should play sports younger then 12 is because children’s injuries, “children ages 5-12 account for nearly 40 present of all sports related injuries treated in hospitals”(Higgins). “On average the rate of injuries increases with a child’s age. Injuries associated with participation in sports and recreational activities account for 21% of all traumatic brain injuries among children in the United States” (Huggins). Most kids like to do what they want when they want. That’s not okay, their parents need to be on top of that and make sure their children are okay. As kids go on to play sports at a higher age they need to take care of their body’s and not let them get weak and not want to try anymore. “Among athletes ages 5-12, 28 percent of football players, 25 precent of baseball players,
