At times grandparents will have to raise their own child’s children. This could be due to a variety of reasons including addiction, incarceration, or the incapability of providing adequate childcare. Grandparent’s are valuable resources when it comes to raising grandchildren, they can provide knowledge and help when it comes to raising a child. Often times grandparents provide part time childcare but other times they become a surrogate parent to their grandchildren. When a grandparent becomes the parent it can cause problems in a variety of ways for both the grandparent and the child. The grandparent will often times face a financial burden as well as physical and emotional health problems. While the grandchild may have a hard time forming an attachment to the grandparent and start to act out due to the change in environment and in caregiver . There are also simply not enough adequate or helpful resources for grandparents who are raising grandchildren, often times they are left to come up with solutions to their problems on which can cause severe issues as well as stress. The solutions to their problems are often difficult to find and at times just not available. This has been an ongoing problem for many years and as time goes the problems only get worse, the lack of research and public acknowledgment that surrogate grandparents face is an ongoing issue in today 's society.
