I moved to Missouri from Texas after graduate school is because I much-loved the state of Missouri and having the privilege to serve its unfortunate populations unquestionably is a plus. I have been employed by the Missouri Department of Social Services, Children’s Division, as a Children’s Services Worker. My time as a Children’s Services Worker at Hillsboro has been filled with outstanding, memorable days involving the imperative work of serving our children, our families and our staff with the kind of love, compassion, energy and intense devotion it takes to make a positive transformation in the Jefferson County community. While my time in Hillsboro has been memorable and fulfilling, it has not been perfect. As a Children’s Services Worker

Being a parent transformed me in unexpected ways. I found myself wanting to provide for my daughter and later my son the same security and benefits my parents had provided for me. I found a job at University Children’s Center. UCC provides care for children from the ages of 6 weeks to 6 years and I wanted to be close to my children. I worked with all the age groups but found my niche in the infant program. I enjoyed the close bonds I was able to form with both the babies and their families. I took great pride in creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. I took classes to become Infant Nursery Room Supervisor. Once again, I excelled in my studies and enjoyed the learning process. Bringing the information I learned into the classroom was

Shiloh’s Summer Enrichment program has been a blessing to me over the past four or five years. I’ve been enriched not only mentally but financially and spiritually. Through this program I’ve had the opportunity to meet some great people and get a taste of what my career will be like. During this time, working I have been at Southern University’s School of Nursing, In Loving Arms (pediatric daycare) and the Louisiana State Attorney General’s office. Each place of business welcomed me and exposed me to things I wouldn’t have experienced through any other summer program. My experiences included working with lawyers and paralegals to close cases, assisting the dean with a PhD dissertation for a Nursing student, and caring for babies with special
I started substitute teaching at various elementary, middle and high schools in the Jacksonville area. In October of 2010, I obtained full time employment at Youth Crisis Center as a Youth Care Specialist. My role was to assist young adults in the foster care system. While at Youth Crisis Center, I was acknowledged for my dedication and excellence in the work place and was promoted to team lead. In March 2011, I was laid off and regained employment at the Mental Health Resource Center, as a Family Services Counselor (FSC). As I held this position, I worked with families through the foster care system who had experienced past trauma of abuse, abandonment or neglect. I held a case load of 15-25 families as I coordinated services to ensure each of their need were met. The types of services provided included medical, dental, educational, therapeutic, parenting, mental health and substance abuse to name a few. Likewise, I prepared reports on a weekly basis to be submitted to the courts regarding the families progress or lack thereof. With all intent to reunify families there were instances that reunification was not deemed to be in the child(s) best interest. In such cases as these it was also my responsibility to testify in open court advocating for other permanency options for the child. I found my position as a FSC to be both challenging and rewarding at the same time. I remember working with a family whose
With just attaining a bachelor’s degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences, I had dedicated 4 years of my undergrad career to working with young children. During my stay at the University at Buffalo, I took the time to get involved in internships which allowed me to work along a speech pathologist in a bilingual public school in Buffalo. I also went along to work in a child care center, as a teacher assistant. These experiences have increased my passion for working with

Provide an overview of historical views on children and identify how this will impact your role in empowering families, protecting children from maltreatment, and engaging in ethical decision making as a child welfare worker.
At the Family Crisis Center, I worked with my colleagues to create a safe and supportive environment, which helped families to transition into a new environment. I have worked as a team member and a team leader at the Family Crisis Center. As a team member, I have designed and taught lesson plans for children; which were academically based on child development research. The lesson plans I designed and/or taught centered around three themes: healthy self-esteem, healthy expression of feelings, and healthy life management (including stress management, diet, and exercise). As a team leader, I trained and supervised other college students on how to properly interact with mothers and children; by primarily using helping skills techniques and modeling positive and nurturing behavior. My work at the Family Crisis Center has changed both my personal understanding and social view of intimate partner violence. And I would love
Early in my life, I began working for the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indian. Having spent seven years working with the tribe, I held two different jobs. During my first adventure in my career I first began working with the department of early child care. After working under the department of education for several years, I transferred to the department of public safety.

When working with children and young people it is important to know the aims and responsibilities for your setting.
I grew up loving children of all ages and wanting to be a caregiver. I was the baby sitter and nanny to the neighborhood and my church ward. When I was in High School’s it was no surprise to anyone that I chose to work in the school’s child care center. I continued working with children at several child care centers until I went to school.
When I was seven, my family was involved in a head-on collision where our Chevy Nova hydroplaned into a Dodge Ram. Severe injuries that occurred both in this accident and a second one two years later (caused by a drunk driver), resulted in both of my parents being permanently disabled and piles of medical bills. By the time I was in the 5th grade my mom and I became heavily involved in various volunteer organizations for low income families, particularly Neighbor Impact and a similar group called Bread of Life. For years these two programs kept my family financially afloat.. I would like to pursue this career in order to help connect families like mine with various resources that will help them get back on their feet.
Child protection gets involved for many reasons such as: your children not going to school, somebody calling them on you, or if you're going through some personal issues. A child in need is usually a child that's left alone, has been abused or sees abused between parents.
