Korea, Vietnam, and Japan experienced and responded to Chinese influences in different ways. Korea and Vietnam, who were conquered by China, achieved political independence while participating fully in the tribute system. The cultural elite of all three countries borrowed them from China. Both Korea and Vietnam experienced some colonization by Chinese settlers. Vietnam was under Chinese rule for over a thousand years. This led to large cultural changes in Vietnam. They adopted their agriculture styles, Confucian-based schooling, local languages, and clothing and hairstyle. Japan, unlike Korea and Vietnam, adopted Chinese elements completely voluntarily. Not only did the Japan and Korea respond to Chinese influences differently but their women
Today, Japanese and Korean civilizations are advanced, wealthy, and independent with their own system of government and religious beliefs due to the influences from China. The majority of Asia experienced changes in government and dealt with inter and intra state conflicts when the countries were most susceptible to influences from alliances made with other countries. The Tang Dynasty/ Silla alliance shaped the future of Korea’s religious and government movements. Art and literature from China also greatly impacted Korea’s and Japan’s society and provided new insight into literary expression through new forms of poetry and a new system of writing. Religion was also a major influence because of
New agricultural techniques, porcelain, metallurgy, printing, and naval technology were few of the technological elements that reinforced the established features of social order. New agricultural techniques helped in the expand of their agricultural potential, the dynasties gained reputation from porcelain technology which moderately diffused to other societies producing porcelain in large quantities, metallurgical techniques as well diffused to lands beyond China, printing produced texts quickly and popular works appeared in huge quantities, and naval technology included of the magnetic compass which soon became common for mariners to use. Population growth, patriarchal social structures, and gunpowder were technological elements reinforcing established features of political order. Population growth reflected the capacity of economy and distribution of food, patriarchal social structures included of concern to preserve family fortunes and foot binding, and gunpowder was an element used for military effectiveness. These aspects provided a fundamental change in traditions because they changed their whole concepts of how to use goods as in previous Chinese eras.
China and Japan are too enormous and influential nations located in Eastern Asia. These two nations are almost always confused because of their similar culture and people, and they also happen to be right next to each other. Japan and China have never been allies and the two countries always seem to be in conflict. These two superpowers are very important to the world, and without them everything would be imbalanced in the global market. The rising superpower, China, is a nation that will continue to grow and improve their economy, while the fragile superpower, Japan, could fall apart at any moment and ruin the balance between all of the other countries.
China and Japan had similar but different experiences with the Western civilization. China and Japan reacted differently to the Western nations and it was China’s reactions to the West that would break the Chinese’s isolation leaving their traditions behind. The Industrial trade in Europe and the United States had created a gap between Asia and the West, This left china and Japan far behind technologically and they were not able to stand up against the western nations and although at different times China and Japan both ended up having to sign unequal treaties, and to open their ports for merchants.
China and Japan are two unique civilizations that went through similar, yet vastly different changes throughout their histories. Their growth and response to other nations differed in many ways in government, lifestyle, and general well-being. One of the main causes for such difference between the countries is the way the West influenced each region, and the way China and Japan responded to this influence. China focused more on the idea of being a "status oriented" society, while Japan was more "goal oriented" based. In China, anyone had the ability to better themselves and change their status through civil examinations given by the government. Western impact however slowly changed this old age system. Japan's caste system viewed
Imperialism is the act of creating an empire, through extending a country’s power by force or forming international relations. In many cases, the imperializing country reaps the financial benefits and extracts resources/raw materials from the country that is colonized, leaving the natives with little to no resources and without the ability to advance or develop. When, one country enters another and takes over, it silences the people living there, and takes away their right of saying how their country should be governed. This lack of listening by the colonizers usually has disastrous results: destroyed economies, lives lost, and broken alliances, like the relationship between the British and the Chinese from the early 1700s until around 1912.
7. In what ways did China have an influence in Korea, Vietnam, and Japan? In what ways was that influence resisted?
The recruiting phase or the “courting” or “dating process” begins with the initial stages of developing the players’ relationships and to confirm the mutual independence. Colleges and universities are suggesting that they would be equipping them for the future and all the sweets they want. Similar to Friday Night Lights, Colleges and universities heavily court, two star players on the Carter team, Derric Evans and Gary Edwards. They received free trips to tour the universities. Derric Evans and Gary Edwards are jetted around to different schools in the nation. Their mediocre academic scores did not seem to be an issue with these Colleges. Both Derric and Gary are tempted with a bright future and everything from luxury campus residence to
East and west. The relationship between the two has never been truly set in stone. Both Europe and Asia have been through many large-scale power shifts throughout the millennia. Empires have risen – and inevitably been razed. If not by conquerors, then by time itself. These empires were often led by those who yearned to increase their land and holdings, and because of this the tendrils of civilization often stretched to seek uncharted territory. This undying curiosity eventually culminated in what is now referred to as the “Age of Discovery,” which spanned from the 1500s to the 1800s. By the beginning of the 20th century, most of the world’s lands had already been discovered. Trade links between China and Europe had been around since the Hellenic Age. And in the year 1900 it had been 124 years since the founding of the United States of America. Cross the Pacific Ocean, and one would find themselves face-to-face with the United States’ distant neighbor, East Asia. In East Asia, two of the most historically significant nations are China and Japan. For a number of reasons, – which will be detailed further later on – the early 1900s were a somewhat tumultuous time for both of said nations. The 20th century was by and large a time of political and economic power consolidation for both China and Japan. It is arguable that the United States played an integral role in this consolidation. The interactions between the United States, China, and Japan highlight a time when the way that
Throughout the course of East Asian history, Japan has been largely influenced by the Asian mainland. From ancient times to the medieval period, significant contributions to Japan can be seen coming from both Korea and China. Both of these countries diffused elements of their cultures to form the basis of Japanese society – namely China. These foreigners would influence various aspects of society including technology, philosophy, politics, and religion.

Buddhism and Confucianism were two critical religious frameworks in China, but were taken by the Japanese. The Japanese then reshaped them to fit Japanese lifestyles, making them different types of similar religions. The same went for workmanship and design in light of the fact that the Japanese appreciated Chinese craftsmanship while including their own particular style. The Japanese also demonstrated their legal system after the Chinese style by utilizing their own Royal Court. Though both countries had an Imperial Court as a form government in the past, the Japanese Ruler embraced numerous parts of the Chinese style, including their versions of various titles, ranks and official functions. The first established form of their constitution was heavily influenced by the way the Chinese could handle such a brought together and composed government. It’s clear that Japan actually just lived in China’s shadow for the past few centuries or so.
Throughout the dynasties in China and Japan, religion, economy and politics have been affected by each other in various ways. In the book “Religion and Making of Modern East Asia”, Thomas Dubois brings to light the impact religion made on both politics and economy in China and Japan throughout the historical period up till date. In his words, he describes “religion as an extremely political force” (Dubois, 2011, pp. 7-16). As various religions were introduced, it shaped the politics of leaders as most of them saw it as an avenue to impose their religion on the citizens. In all, religion invented political and economic stabilities and instabilities in various dynasties throughout Japan and China
During the early nineteenth century, both China and Japan enforced policies restricting foreign trade in order to avoid industrialization and western ideas, but after both societies experienced foreign invasions and unequal treaties being established by foreigners, Japan began to industrialize and became imperialists trying to create an empire, while China differed in that the people wanted reform and government restrained the reformation of their society, therefore causing multiple rebellions and overall the collapse of their empire.
