Chlamydia can affect the body in similar ways with men and woman. In women, the bacteria initially infect the cervix and the urethra (urine canal). Some women have no signs or symptoms, while others might have a burning sensation when urinating or an abnormal vaginal discharge. If the infection spreads from the cervix to the fallopian tubes (tubes that carry fertilized eggs from the ovaries to the uterus), women experience, nausea, fever, lower abdominal pain, low back pain, pain during intercourse, or bleeding between menstrual periods. Chlamydial infection of the cervix can spread to the rectum. Just like women some men may have no signs or symptoms at all.
