In a world that’s “endlessly” changing, it’s only logical that those inhabiting it follow the same agenda. In Jon Krakauer’s, “Into the Wild, youngster Chris McCandless is described to have attempted to follow his own advice; the joy of life “comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon” (Krakauer 57). To the extent of seemingly necessary changes, McCandless’s philosophy is accurate. McCandless lead a mostly enjoyable life; he was born into a considerably rich and high end family, and received outstanding grades through his years in school. He was well liked, and built up a motivated and optimistic persona, yet despite this, he decided to abandon his life and reach for “an endlessly changing horizon”(57). His life, while possibly seen as luxury by …show more content…
Not everyone enjoys change and very few people genuinely need it to happen (179). It’s also harder for some to adapt to a new pattern, and others are simply already satisfied with their lives as they are now; that is perfectly fine. For the rest of the world that wouldn’t mind change, “may god bless you all” …show more content…
He would not have chosen to open a new “horizon” based on his own philosophy, indicating that Franz would have been considered someone who’d find it hard to adapt to change, but he still found himself introducing a new agenda, and benefited from that choice for the most part. For people like Franz, accepting new experiences and horizons can help widen someone’s mind, allowing them a more open mindset. That open mindset can help introduce an individual to newer opportunities that can benefit them in the

McCandless’s ambition came from the writing of Tolstoy. He cherished the fact that Tolstoy abandoned his life of riches and privilege. When McCandless started his journey he left behind his parents and sister. He also donated the rest of his money,

This article from CNN’s website discusses how a Florida judge recently sentenced Timothy Hurst, who is convicted on a murder charge of a young woman who was bound, gagged, and stabbed over 60 times, to death row. A jury recommended that Hurst be put on death row, but was not present during the ruling. The judge held a separate hearing, without a jury present, and imposed the death penalty on Hurst. The judge’s sentence for Hurst was ruled unconstitutional because it violated the sixth amendment, which includes the right to an impartial jury, and a recommendation from a jury is not enough for a ruling to be made. This case is now being send to Florida’s Supreme Court for further proceedings. This could impact actions towards other inmates
After graduating from Emory University in Atlanta, McCandless’s parents offered to buy him a new car as their graduation present. Contrasting what most teenagers would feel about this news, McCandless was shocked and offended, he “couldn’t believe they’d try and buy me a car” (21). McCandless did not believe in the idea of tangible gifts, he explained to his sister that “he would have to be real careful not to accept any gifts from them in the future because they will think they have bought [his] respect” (21). McCandless near insecurity of gifts, and his longing for a peaceful and moral world caused him to want to search for another life. After burning his wallet, giving all his remaining money to charity, and leaving his beloved car behind, McCandless abandoned his family and hitchhiked his way west as far as possible. These actions and ideas that McCandless developed while studying in college were only a blueprint for his tragic flaw, which would further establish itself while traveling alone in the West.

On December 2000, the Carr brothers committed a series of crimes which included the brutal rapping, robbery, kidnaping, and shooting of five young men and women. After a joint sentencing proceeding, a Kansas jury sentenced Reginald and Jonathan Carr to death. On appeal, the Carrs argued that their Eighth Amendment right to an individualized sentencing was violated both by the trial judge’s refusal to separate their cases and the failure to instruct the jury that” mitigating circumstances need not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt”. The Kansas Supreme Court agreed and called off the death sentences by holding that the trial judge failed to do the necessary analysis on the issue. The court also held that the jurors may have been prevented from
“Wilderness appealed to those bored or disgusted with man and his works” (Roderick Nash). Chris McCandless, a modern transcendentalist, sent out on an adventure to find his true self in the wilderness of the North American continent. In the two years he was away, he met many individuals he called his friends and explored the extent of the American West. However, Chris was found dead in an abandoned bus on the Stampede Trail in the deep wilderness of Alaska in early September 1992. Chris believed he could live his life without the disruption of others. Henry David Thoreau believed that individuals can strive for themselves without government interruption. Chris McCandless, in Jon Krakauer’s documentary Into the Wild, believes that living off the land and life to its fullest without help from others compares to Henry David Thoreau’s beliefs in his writing “Civil Disobedience.”
McCandless was trapped in a society that created an illusion of his own fake happiness while he was looking to discover himself. He possessed a desperate need to find the true meaning that only he could answer. McCandless quotes “I'm going to paraphrase Thoreau here... rather than love, than money, than faith, than fame, than fairness... give me
Chris McCandless “had been raised in the comfortable upper-middle-class environs of Annandale, Virginia” (Krakauer 19) so growing up, McCandless lived a considerably privileged life and because of that, he never experienced hardships in terms of economics. Ironically, McCandless is a man who puts little to no importance into material items and or wealth. To some, McCandless’s decision to give all of his money away, abandon his family, and give away all of his belongings as something only a “nut” or a “kook” would do. However, growing up, McCandless grew up with the ideology that his economic privilege was “ shameful, corrupting, [and] inherently evil”(Krakauer 115) which led him to become ashamed of what he had. McCandless put strong emphasis on his belief of equality. He would always try to “make sense of the world” (Krakauer 18) and why things were the way they were and why people did the things they did. So, as a result
“We all use stereotypes, all the time, without knowing it” (Paul 1998) In “Brave Old World's” Writer for the LA Times and Hollywood reporter, Graeme McMillan, argues against the demeaning stereotypes present in Pixar films. He explains that while these films usually have a positive underlying morals they are often neglected. McMillan argues that while to some while even some stereotypes are okay to some extent, Pixar continues to employ these stereotypes. While McMillian puts forth a legitimate argument, he makes several errors in his argument by making irrational use of logic and reason, failing to provide a concrete definition of the word stereotype and utilizing informal and biased language.
Well being a seventeen year old black female from St.Louis, there isn't much that I can't remember from the infamous Mike Brown case that shook the World. I've always been someone that's really passionate about social issues like violence in inner cities, the death penalty, women's rights when it comes to abortion, and many other things. But the thing that I'm probably most passionate about, even since I was a little girl was criminal reforms and solving the problem of there being so many Black and Hispanic young men in this country's prisons. And ultimately wanting to give young black and brown men a better image, letting the world know that they are more than just a statistic. So when Mike Brown was fatally shot, back in 2014, it really hurt
McCandless set off on an adventure that nobody can quite explain. “He was unheeded, happy, and near to the
Seán William McLoughlin, created a YouTube channel where he has made a style of commentary that he is loud and wacky, and he allows people to always be themselves, no matter what. Commentary is (Webster’s Dictionary States -) a descriptive spoken account (especially on a broadcast) of an event or performance as it happens. Commentary is most of the time used in games to either promote or demote them based on the different factors of the game. He uses his form of commentary to be able to entertain people in a different way, so that it wouldn’t be old, and to still judge games (in a good way) for people looking for games (that want a certain type of game). “I’ll always be a weirdo! I think that’s what makes me stand out. If you’re not
