Most Christians believe that the Bible is the word of God. Since they believe this, and since they believe the Bible is true, many Christians take a biblical worldview position on the issue of abortion. Christians value God’s commandments in the Bible. They believe the Bible tells them what is right and what is wrong. Since Christians hold the Bible to be their moral standard, that life begins at conception, and that murder is wrong in the Bible, their value judgement is that abortion is morally wrong. They take the moral stance that the Bible has religious authority from God and that they should follow that authority and use it to make decisions on what is right and wrong. Lastly, Christians believe that their view of children should be consistent with that of Jesus’. Jesus did not believe that babies were inconvenient in any way. For instance, Jesus was preaching and people were bringing their babies to Jesus to be blessed. The disciples sent the parents away because they believed it was an inconvenience to Jesus. However, Jesus rebuked the disciples and welcomed the children (Luke 18: 15-17). This shows that, to Jesus, children were not an inconvenience. Christians believe that since they should model themselves after Jesus, and Jesus did not see children as inconvenient, that it is wrong to get an abortion simply because it may be convenient, which is the main reason people get abortions today. Christians who hold the biblical worldview of abortion believe that abortion is morally wrong because the Bible is given the authority by God to tell them what is right and wrong and from a biblical standpoint, abortion is wrong.
