During my time at USD I have taken a few classes pertaining to the Christian community. While they all stressed the importance of Jesus; it never really explained in detail his influence upon the Christian church. I was born and raised in Atlanta, which you know is the bible belt. Growing up in rural Atlanta I attended a Baptist Church at least three times a week. While I learned about God through my personal reading and interpretation, my pastor taught a different explanation. He constructed a God that was feared in both the Old and New Testament beside a Jesus that was loving and caring. Pastors in my community would talk about Gods purposeful mishaps and mistakes while highlighting Jesus’s perfection. Even as an adult you see the Church …show more content…
My problem is we start to reflect God through human characteristics. We begin to tag more flaws on to God and sometimes only accept his perfection through his counterpart. As the JTC states, “Jesus was an innovator.” Why don’t we follow his lead in that way? If Jesus can be a rabbi, amen, messiah, and mar; then why can’t we take on multiple ways of viewing his role in Gods revealing. According to the Old Testament God revealed himself a long time ago and Christianity somehow created a living being though it’s religion. Paul (the church) manifested itself from the blessing of Jesus through God. My only fear is that we millennials loose foresight of the actual Glory of the living God. We wait for the Revelation as if the sun doesn’t raise and fall every day. I don’t get why we pause time in our minds through religion and teach other generations to do the same. I personally don’t see any progression, just repetition. I’m interested to see how Jesus’s monophysitism became the only way to understand God’s complexity. People normally ask WWJD and practice imitation Christi but WWGD. Are we too complexed by God’s methods that Jesus is now the only form of God, and everything else is just nature or a mere mystery. Like God created the world, participated a bit, came through Jesus and dipped. I think we respect both nurtures history and natures raft through the scope of our own understanding of humanity. We guess God through Jesus because that’s all people can hold on too because they may be scared to think that there may be other answers out in the world. Sorry, I’m starting to go on a philosophical tangent, so I will stop
In my experience at first progressive Baptist Church I was very much out of my comfort zone because not only did I not feel as welcomed but it was a little awkward because of all the looks I was receiving. I felt I was not dressed as they were and felt as if I didn't fit in and right away I just didn't feel appropriate with my attire. While I was there I actually had people wanting to shake hands and asking me questions about me coming and there was one man who just stared at me and so it was uncomfortable and didn't know how to react. While I was there I started to notice that there is a little difference from the church I go to and the music was way different as well, everyone will talk back with amen or thank you Jesus. The difference
As human beings we are naturally introduced to a natural family, every Christian is naturally introduced to God's spiritual family. God is the Father of all his children. In the church we are like a neighborhood and in our neighborhood church, we have fathers, moms, more established and more youthful kin, and new infants being conceived in our spiritual family. We get benefits as relatives, however we likewise have responsibilities. This impacts our needs and how we treat each other. We have a similar respect and responsibility and love for our heavenly families as we improve the situation our own families. We would prefer just not to get together once per week—we need to confer our lives to each other.
The main reason that I am sold on this Baptist thing is because our statement of beliefs is not a creed or confession that tries to express all of the things that southern Baptist believe but is instead broad statement that hits the main points. This is important to me because unlike some other mainline denominations Baptists do not base the whole organization around a certain theological system. Because of this the Southern Baptists allow for a minister to change his view as he grows, reads, and learns without having to leave the denomination.
Ever since I was six years old, the year I was baptized, I have been on fire for the Lord. I attended a Christian school for eight years and have always been very involved at my church. My first experience outside of my “Christian bubble” was when I went to a public high school. For the first time in my life, I was out of my comfort zone. Being at a public school challenged my faith, strengthened my leadership skills, and forced me to branch out and meet people I would have never encountered otherwise. However, even though being at a public school helped strengthen my faith in ways I would have never guessed, I believe attending a Christian university—like Liberty—is the best choice to further my education. Going to college is new and exciting, but it can also be a demanding and intimidating experience. Being so far away from home, in a different environment,
Black churches today are becoming more diverse, and a great place to worship for all people regardless of ethnicity. However, for some people of Caucasian decent it can still be confusing understanding the traditions of the Black church. Here is a brief guide to non-African Americans understand the church.
Throughout history, there is a copious amount of notable figures who were able to change the world around them. Jesus Christ, after his crucifixion, left an imprint on the human race with the establishment of Christianity and the spread of his beliefs through his followers. His accomplishments that were recorded in the Gospels will continue through the ages, spreading his wisdom and way of thinking. Even though it would beneficial for believers to truly fathom his significance to history and the human soul, challenges ascend that hold its effectiveness back.
In the religious project I choose to attend a church of a different domination. While I grew up Baptist and the Baptist culture are very familiar to me. the church I decide to attend was Holy Ghost Catholic Church. The reason I choose a Catholic church was because I have always been curious of their worship service. Right away, I noticed the pulpit and as in the Baptist culture this too seemed to be sacred. As only the priest and his helpers were allowed in it. The next thing that stood out to me was the church pews. That I thought all had foot rest. I soon realized that it was for their knees for praying. My experience was very eye opening as I went there not knowing what to expect. I didn’t find the music or choir selection as fun or energetic as in the Baptist
Escondido Christian School (ECS) is an amazing school, but there are always areas for improvement. For example the bathrooms, better playground equipment, but what most jr. highers would like a Gaga ball pit. Now yes it will cost three hundred and ninety dollars.Yes, kids may get hurt, but in spending the money to make a pit it will save you money. If the kids play Gaga ball they will stay off the playground which means the equipment will not brake as fast.

in just the sophomore class due to stress, repugnance, or isolation. A copious amount of students at the school complain about stress and ridiculous rules. As a matter of fact, about 75 percent of students are disinterested with the school. The students believe that the school needs to progress in order to keep interest. Advancement in rules, a time for community every day, and the reduction in homework can significantly adjust a student’s perspective on school. Likewise, it illustrates how Christians should behave. To improve Northwest Christian School, one should make the lunchroom into a cafe before school, allow students to wear their school shirts any day of the week, and assign no homework on Wednesdays or weekends.
As I approach the end of my high school career, I start thinking if I am prepared and ready to face the next step in my life. College is known to test a man’s responsibility in order to prepare him to face the world alone. Jesuit High School has changed my life throughout the years I have attended the school. Jesuit has prepared me for college and taught me how to become a more responsible man. When I was thinking of where I should apply to high school, Jesuit was not my first option; however, coming from a family of Jesuit alumni, I knew it was the only school for me. Throughout my earlier years at Jesuit, I struggled and was miserable due to the overwhelming work and rules I was required to follow. However, I soon realized what the school was about in its mission in turning its students into men for others. I have found that Jesuit High School has transformed me educationally, has made me a more responsible man, and has taught me to be a man for others.
It’s the day of the Holy Apostles track meet for my 8th grade year and the air was very brisk and breezy. The only running event I had for that day was the 800m race. I started running the 800m in 4th grade. It was my best race and the race I liked the most. I had never won the 800m against these schools before, and I definitely wasn’t expecting to win that day. My rivals in this race were from three other schools St. Leonards, St. Joan of Arc, and MQS . The girl from St. Leonards, Sydney Bartz, was a girl who I have beaten and have raced against since I was in 5th grade. My other two rivals were from St. Joan of Arc and MQS ,Zoey Goodman, who was the girl who I have been up against since 5th grade and I have never beaten her because she has
evangelical churches have had the largest growth. There are a number of reasons for the growth of evangelical churches in the last two decades of the twentieth century. First, Catholics were often targets of government repression for their "subversive" involvement in base Christian communities, while evangelicals were safe from government repression. Second, the evangelical emphasis on personal conversion is considered apolitical. Finally, small evangelical churches provide their members with a strong sense of community and family. During my whole life, my family and religion are the only ones that have helped me the most. My family have always encourage me in all types of situations and also religious because only God could guide me when I
This paper will examine woman in the early Christian church (33 AD-330 AD) using context of the New Testament Holy Bible and the observations of the Greco-Roman society. This paper will particularly women contributions in the Apostle Paul’s ministry. Furthermore, it will eventually describe women’s failure to break free from patriarchal supremacy despite emergence of Christianity. Ultimately, this paper argues that women were not emancipated through Christianity because of sexual pessimism outside the Christian Church.
Sources for Christian belief are those things that deliver information about God and act as vehicles for what God reveals. Norms are standards by which any information is tested to be accurate and true. Charles Wesley describes these sources and norms for Christian belief as Scripture, Tradition, Reason, Experience.1 Although he was not the first, what he articulated came to be known as the Wesleyan Quadrilateral. To sum this up, Christians believe in many things for a wide variety of reasons and the importance of sources and norms are vehicles to a Christian’s way of thinking in what to belief in and for what reason. Basically making sense to a Christian’s thought and views. Like a four-legged stool with each source and norm, uphold the
