Liberty University Abstract The book, Christian Coaching; Helping Others Turn Potential Into Reality, is written by Gary Collins. In this book, he states how coaching is different from counseling, discipleship, and mentoring. Christian Coaching is getting the individual out from where they currently are to a place that God wants them to be. Collins illustrates this throughout his book the importance coaches play in individual’s lives by encouraging, listening, and guiding them to where they want to be. Christian Coaching is different than secular coaching in that it takes a person from where they currently are to a place that God wants them to be in reflecting the image of Christ. Christian Coaching also enables the individual to find God’s plan for their lives and learn how to live accordingly by the use of stories, insights, and interviews during the coaching sessions. This book is important to have in one’s library because it gives a broader scope and a God-centered approach to help people move towards the future and apply the gifts that God has given to them. Summary What is coaching? According to Collins (2009), coaching is about getting a person from being stuck in their current position in life, developing and reaching goals that one sets, being able to manage conflict in an effective manner, being able to get through life transitions, being able to clarify one’s vision, and building rapport with others.
