From the days of the many deities of Arabian peninsula’s warmongering tribes, to the days of the Christian Crusades, religion has influenced the all of humanity’s cultures, politics, political maps and history. From the very early days of Arabia’s tribal culture, the religions gave each individual tribe a feeling of identity, that they felt separated from all of the other tribes. The shrines of these gods and goddesses were built and worshipped in settlements like the Kaaba in Mecca. The religions of the tribes drew all of them to that one specific city. When the tribes entered the city, they had to give up their weapons, which encouraged trading between the tribes, even if two tribes were in a conflict at the time. Then the Islamic forces drove across North Africa and into the Iberian peninsula, until they were stopped by Frankish forces at the sacred Frankish city of Tours during 732 A.D. Many historians believe that this battle secured Christianity as the religion of Europe and had the Islamic forces not been defeated, Islam would have been the religion of Europe, which would affect all of European history and politics after. In addition, it would have also affected what religions would spread into North and South America, because of European powers desire to expand and colonize the “New World”. The Christian Crusades to recapture the holy sites in Jerusalem had many effects in the mediterranean region. Cities like Genoa and Venice flourished from trade because of the movement of so many crusaders in the area. In addition, trading colonies in the crusaders states and the Holy Land also formed from the profits to be made in trading.
