Believing in the existence of one God or the oneness of God is monotheism (Theodorus P. van Baaren, 2018). Judaism, Christianity and Islam are all monotheistic, Abrahamic religions meaning that they link back to Abraham. In Christianity, it is believed that all who have faith are called children of Abraham. Abraham is known as Ibrahim in Islam. He is regarded as an important prophet. Hajj is one of the 5 Pillars of Islam, a compulsory pilgrimage that every able Muslim must partake in once in their lifetime. ("The Hajj", 2018) Returning to Mecca, the core of their faith as it was the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad, holds symbolic meanings. The Qur’an signifies this practice through the words “and proclaim that the people shall observe Hajj pilgrimage. … They will come from the farthest locations.” (22:27) Hajj demonstrates a belief in one God through the devotion to God and the symbolic surrendering of oneself to Allah’s will. Muslims wear white garments to strip themselves of any evidence of class or culture. They journey to Mecca to praise God as one large community, reminding them that everyone is equal before Allah. Through Hajj, Muslims reinforce their belief in one God, worshipping Him alone and no one
