Christianity and Islam in Premodern Africa
Christianity and Islam date back to a time long before the modern era and both have sizable similarities between the two religions. Many of these similarities can be simplified into three subjects; both have books comprised of holy texts written about events taking place during their prophet’s life, both are believed to have started with God appointed leaders, and both consist of different divisions within their religion. Christianity starting with the birth of Jesus Christ and Islam with the prophet Muhammad, at age 40, also believed to be the last prophet of God. The Holy Bible is the book believed by Christians to contain the revelations of God and is the guiding holy text of the Christian

The Holy Bible is comprised of two Testaments, Old and New, where the Old is written from the time of human origins to right about the time of Jesus’s birth and talks about certain holy texts, such as the Ten Commandments, written by God for Moses, that tell a list of ten commands that shall never be broken. The New is written by Jesus’s disciples discussing the teachings and person of Jesus, as well as events in first-century Christianity. The New Testament consists of 27 books all written either towards the end or after the life of Jesus Christ, all written by his followers, like Saint Peter who created the first Christian Church in Rome. Muslims believe the Qur’an was poetic verses, teaching the morals of life, God said to Muhammad dictated by God and that Muhammad wrote down these “recitations”. Many of the stories told in the Qur’an have similar overlapping with the stories in the Bible, talking about many of the same people. One major event that takes place during Muhammad’s life was the pilgrimage he took to Medina where he would begin spreading the word of Islam, just as Jesus had done in terms of spreading God’s teachings. The Bible and Qur 'an have many similarities in that they are both derived from the same God and speak of similar teachings that have shaped the religious world in some spectacular and some humdrum ways.
Muslims and Christians together believe in their prophets
When thinking about the history of the world, one must always consider that merchants as well as trade have played an immerse role in shaping the world as it is today. They are responsible for many of the cross-cultural interactions that we have had in the past. Christianity and Islam, the two predominant religions of the world today, have both grown and spread through merchants and trade also. These two chief religions both have attitudes towards merchants and trade that have either developed or decreased overtime. According to these documents, from up to the year 1500, Christianity went from a negative view of merchants and trade to a positive view while Islam went from a positive view to a negative view, but both sides
Christianity and Islam are two of history’s most influential and powerful religions in the post-classical and early modern era. As different regions began to communicate, products, ideas, and services were exchanged across vast distances. Civilizations became less isolated and depended on other regions to sustain stable economies. The role of the merchant increased as trade arose with other regions. Initially, Christianity despised trade, but as time progressed, merchant activity became more widely accepted. On the other hand, Islam initially accepted trade, but became less tolerant of the activity as time progressed. From the origin of the two major religions to about 1500, Christian and Muslim thoughts concerning merchant activity gradually trended in opposite directions. According to the documents, Christianity initially despised trade while Islam accepted merchant activity, but the two religions’ attitudes reversed by about 1500.
There are some similarities between Christianity and Islam. Christianity and Islam are both religion. Both religion are founded in the Middle East; and they are founded by Prophets of God. They have both impact the course of history. The Christians and Islam each believed that there is only one true God.
The Bible is a collection of sixty books that was written by diverse of authors, including the apostles and the disciple of Jesus. The Bible divided into two Testaments; the Old and New Testament. The Old Testament or the old contract is a collection of thirty-six books and the New Testament has twenty seven books. The New Testament is a contract between God and the humanity through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Koran was written by Muhammad, a prophet of God. Muslims believed that he received a message from Angel Gabriel and wrote the Koran. However, Both the Bible and the Koran are the words of God. The Christians believe in the resurrection of Christ Jesus has the son of God while the Muslims do not believe Jesus
The biggest difference in Islam and Christianity is that Muslims don’t believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, which is the basic foundation of Christianity. Muslims believe that Jesus was a servant of God as well as a prophet. Muhammad is believed to be a prophet and a servant of God also; however, Muhammad is said to be the last prophet sent by God to guide humanity. On the contrary, Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of God and is therefore viewed as God
Such as the fact that they are both monotheistic meaning they only believe in one God, both are spread through traveling and teaching, and both present Jesus Christ as an important figure. Christianity and Islam both consider their places of worship as “holy”, both religions pray, fast, and do acts of charity, and both believe in angels, spirits, and demons. Some of the differences that Christianity and Islam
There is also much similarity between the two holy books of Islam and Christianity. Muslims follow the teachings in the Qur’an, while Christians follow the words of the Holy Bible. First off, there are many similarities between the Qur’an’s and Bible’s version of many stories, such as: Adam and Eve, Moses and the children of Israel, etc. Also, the Ten Commandments, from the Bible, all have their corresponding parts in the Qur’an. For example: Exodus 20:12 from the Bible states: “Honour your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the Lord your God gave you.” The corresponding part
Again, Christianity and Islam differ in some fundamental and significant ways. Another example of these differences is the concept of sin which is not as dominant in Islam as it is in Christianity. In other words, sin is a minor issue in Islam. As an illustration, Muhammad states that if someone does not sin, Allah will wipe out that person and replaced by someone else who will be willing and capable of sinning (Muslim, Vol. 4, Book 37, Hadith No. 6622 & 6621). Thus, it is necessary, even an obligation for Muslims to sin.
There are 7 billion people living all around the world. Everybody has grown up enriched in different cultures, beliefs, traditions, and social standings. Each person, with their own developed views of the world, following a religion such as Christianity and Islam or specifically choosing not to follow a religion, even have many similarities. Christianity and Islam, both, follow by a sacred book of their God’s word although the Bible is also written by many other authors . They both also have a designated place of worship. Christians gather in a church although the bible does not specifically talk about attending church. Muslims, on the other hand, gather at a mosque that the Qur’an says they should attend as often as possible.
Christianity and Islam are the two largest religions in the world, with over 2 billion Christian, and 1.5 billion Muslim followers. Christianity was founded by Jesus Christ approximately 2000 years ago in Palestine. Bible is collection of 66 books containing a message from God. The Muslim name for God is Allah. Islam is based on revelations received by the prophet Mohammad and originated in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Quran, is the Islamic sacred text. Both are monotheistic religions, which means there is one God. Although Christians believe in Trinity, where God is comprised of three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Islam is a strict monotheism and rejects the concept of Trinity. While Christianity is a most influential in Europe, North and South Americas, Islam is followed by majority in the Middle East and in North Africa. Christianity has three major denominations: Protestant, Orthodox and Catholic. Islam is split into two main sects: Sunni and Shiite ( Comparison, n.d.).
Just like Catholicism, Islam is a monotheistic religion which means that they believe that there is only one god or higher power. However in Islam, Muslims call God “Allah” whereas in Catholicism, God is mainly called and referred to as “God” In Christianity, the holy book is the Bible and in Islam, it is the Qur’an. Though in both religions, there is a similar belief of life after death. Both Christianity and Islam share many of the same prophets from the Old Testament and Qur’an like Abraham (Ibrahim), Moses (Musa), Elijah (Ilays) and Elisha (Alyasa). Catholics believe that Jesus was God’s son but in the Islamic faith, Jesus is considered to be a respected prophet. In both religions, there is the shared acknowledgement and belief of the annunciation to Mary and the virgin conception. Islam was founded by Muhammad, in Mecca. Muslims believe that Muhammad received the revelations from angel Jibril (Gabriel) which he later added to the Qur’an. A few of the fundamental beliefs of Muslims are:
Christianity and Islam are wide spread religions which impact the lives of believers spiritually. Both religions have had substantial impact on the course of history and have formed the basis of many countries laws and are highly recognized by governments. Though Christianity is more widely known, they both pose the same challenges to each other. Considering the similarities and differences of Christianity and Islam, it can be said they are both very different.
As "final," Islam is God's final revelation of prophetic religion, in fulfillment of all that had preceded. Moses was given the Law; David was given the Psalms; Jesus was given the Gospel. Judaism offers God's message of justice, and Christianity proclaims the love of God. To Mohammed (570-632 A.D.; spelled in a variety of ways) the God of
Christianity and Islam are the largest religious in the world. Thirty-three percent of the world’s population is Christian, twenty-one percent Muslim. The world’s two largest religions have much in common, but they are also different in some crucial ways. Both Christianity and Islam are offshoots of Judaism. From Judaism, Christianity and Islam derived the doctrines of monotheism, prophecy, resurrection, and a belief in the existence of heaven and hell. Both Islam and Christianity have a holy book. Christians consider the Bible the inspired word of God. But Muslims believe that the Koran is the literal word of God. Mohammed was merely transcribing the words of Allah, much as a court reporter does. Muslims therefore attribute greater spiritual authenticity to the Koran and Islam than to the Bible and Christianity. Christianity and Islam are two of the world's most populous religions. Christianity and Islam are different in today's beliefs but similar in origin.
Christianity and Islam are undoubtedly the two most influential religions in the world, evidenced by the number of their followers. As of 2012, Christianity had approximately 2.2 billion followers, and Islam had about 1.6 billion adherents (Wikipedia 2017). These two worldviews are the largest in the world. Christianity is the older of the two religions, founded around 2,000 years ago. It was established on the life and ministry of Jesus Christ while He lived on the earth and centers on His death and resurrection. After Jesus left the earth, His twelve apostles and closest friends carried on His legacy by spreading the word of His redemptive life all over the world. They sacrificed everything that they had for this message, even giving up their lives for the cause. In contrast, Islam is about 500 years younger than Christianity, and its founder is Muhammad the prophet. This religion is based on Muhammad’s claimed encounter with an angel, who gave Muhammad a full revelation of God, which was later compiled into the Qur’an. After Muhammad’s death, he was replaced by multiple successors (Myers and Noebel 2016, 56-57), who passed down and spread the Islamic faith through the following generations. Both of these worldviews believe in one God, that Jesus was a great prophet, and that, in the afterlife, God allows humans to enter heaven on certain conditions. However, though they may seem similar, their views on the nature of God, who Jesus is, and the means of
