Christians, Wealth and Poverty

The Bible does not say that money is bad. However, what it does say is that it is "the love of money is the root of all evil", a powerful message. The Bible also says "no one can serve two masters". What this means is that you cannot be too attached to your money or it will lead you away from the one true master, God. It means you cannot use your money in selfish or bad ways, but rather for the good of others.

Christians are expected by their faith to earn their living by honest means. For example, selling drugs for a living is completely against Christian morals as it is making money on the addiction of others to substances, which destroys their life and …show more content…

It shows us that wealth can lead us away from God. However, it is definitely not condemning wealth itself as it can be used to help poorer people and can be used to help get us closer to god.

Both Matthew (6:19-24) and 1Timothy (6:9-10) talk about the subject on the dangers associated with being wealthy. They are both trying to put across the message that money is not the most important thing in the world, rather than love and the promise of Heaven if you have lived a good life on Earth. Matthew says "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy" and Timothy completes the message by saying loving your neighbour is more important "If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need and has no pity on him, how can the love of God be with him?"

Christians are expected to treat their wealth as a blessing, and to use it for the benefit of others as well as yourselves, not just being selfish and using it o create for themselves a selfish and lavish lifestyle, using it to replace God, family and friends. John (3:17-18) says "If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need and has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?" whilst James says that instead of just using well meaning word, to put your power and wealth into effect "faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is
