Christina Parsons, also known in the art world as Charming, was born December 7th, 1990 in San Mateo, California but raised most of her life in Denver, Colorado. She has lived various places and traveled to various places which lead to some of her inspiration for her artworks. She was introduced to painting by her mother when she was all of about three and could barely hold a brush. Since this time she is usually creating some type of art and has been involved in painting for most of her life. Christina was a self-taught artist until she attended Metropolitan State University of Denver where she has received her training and degree in Art Education with a concentration in Painting. On October 3, 1984, Christine Jessop was reported missing by her parents. There were no signs of the nine year old girl despite the search by police and many community volunteers until over 3 months later, where she was discovered dead over 50 kilometres from her home on December 31, 1984. She was killed by multiple stab wounds, and police investigators believed she was also raped, supported by the physical evidence that is the discovered semen stains on her underwear. She was sexually assaulted before being stabbed to death.
Patience Monroe Bishop gave birth to Mosby Monroe Parsons on May 21, 1822 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Little did his parents know that their son would grow up to be a Confederate States of America General. Mosby was the son of the last recorded personal secretary of President Andrew Jackson. His father Gustavus Adolphus Parsons packed up his home, his wife, six daughters and Mosby when he was thirteen and headed west. Claudia Davis is a 52 year previous, African-American, professional who survived ground zero on September 11, 2001. Claudia worked in the South Tower of The World Trade Center on the 50th floor. She was at her desk when the North Tower was hit by the airplane. In all of the confusion, there was a call that her tower was safe and to stay where so was. Claudia did not feel comfortable with staying and was evacuating when the second plane hit, just seventeen minutes after the first airplane collided with the North Tower. Claudia was able to escape, however not without suffering injuries as well as extreme distress by both the plane crash and the people she watched fall to their deaths from above her.
Barbie Harris is a 50 year old female who came into our shelter this morning. In our initial intake and interview this writer can see that Barbie has brought her only belongs: some clothes, blankets, hygiene products, and her prescriptions. Barbie states that most nights she tries to stay at one of her 3 close friends house, however they have families so she does not stay long (Summers, 2012, p. 245). Other than those nights Barbie states she travels from shelter to shelter, at times sleeping on the cold hard ground. In discussing Barbie’s employment history this writer learns she has been unable to work due to issues with her mental health. Throughout one’s childhood, they will meet many people that will have an impact on how they live their everyday lives. For me, that individual is the Houston High School dance team coach, Jennifer Taylor. Jennifer Taylor came into practice each day ready to conquer anything. Even though she had a full-time job, she still put my dance team as one of her top priorities of her everyday life. Jennifer Taylor played a significant role in my life at Houston High School because she taught me numerous life lessons throughout my four years I will never forget.
Sylvia Taylor is an artist/collector who resides in the Valley Arts District in Orange, NJ. Inspired by the burgeoning craft movement of the 1970s, Sylvia attended California College of Arts and Crafts and studied fiber arts, moving into jewelry and metal work later on. Having collected crafts for many years, she started collecting artwork because she was surrounded by so many amazing artists. The first painting in her collection was by an artist who shared her Norwegian heritage and acquired by trading her studio jewelry for the painting. Finding herself more drawn to Abstract Expressionism and contemporary art over time, today Sylvia focuses her collection on non-representational art, often with elements of texture or found objects.
