During the Crusades, Europeans brought luxury good from Italian merchants, who got them from Arab traders; Europeans taste for luxury items greatly increased. During the 13th and 14th explorers like Marco Polo claimed that Asia had the luxury goods the Europeans desired. This began the race towards finding a trade route to Asia. The purpose of document A is to inform the reader of how hard it was for Columbus and his crew to come to the new world. The viewpoint of jean Marzollo was that he was a hero,and he and his crew had to stay up day and night trying to find land poor him right,and how brave he was crossing the oceans.
Christopher Columbus travels to the New World and is funded by Queen Isabella of Spain and King Ferdinand. Christopher Columbus' reason for doing this wasn't to discover new places, it was to get rich. The Spanish monarchs supported Columbus's trips mainly to expand their kingdom. The support he had from Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand illustrates the economic focus of Spanish exploration. Spanish exploration was mostly about making money rather than spreading religion, many wanted to find ways to get rich like using people's labor.
1.) There are a lot of reasons why Christopher Columbus was a great leader and in this journal it shows many examples. For instance Christopher Columbus is very loyal to his king back in his homeland has he always says he will return to his highness and tell his ability with all of his discoveries. Also he is a hero because the islands he came across he let natives sail with him and he gave them hope which he does through god and Christian belief, and he doesn’t force them to anything he gives natives gifts therefore earning their trust and then he gets a helping hand from them. He also explains how people from differently lands believed him and his men to be “Men’s from the heavens” which explains their loyalty and helpfulness natives saw in Columbus.
29. The “promise” that Elizabeth wants John to do is to go to Abigail and to end the relationship between him and Abigail. John explains his anger by explaining that he is honest and that he promises to Elizabeth that he will curse Abigail hotter than the oldest cinder in hell. This explanation is not really convincing as John lied about his affair with Abigail before which made Elizabeth very displeased and annoyed about it.
People have many opinion of Christopher Columbus varying from hatred and believing he’s a villain to believing he’s a hero to the Americas. I believe Columbus was a great contribution in the advancements in the Americas. He brought technology, food, and a new religion. Technology brought by Christopher Columbus had a huge impact on the Americas, and because of him we have what we have now. A document by Colombo describes the benefits of what he brought over and the impact of it.
b.) Zinn’s thesis for this chapter was that Christopher Columbus wasn’t the great hero he was written to be. Zinn portrays him as an evil man who harshly abused the foreign people he came in contact with around the world.
