What effect does stress have on health? Stress is very normal on a day to day basis. Situations such as test taking, caring for children, and writing essays can be very stressful, but this short term type of stress should not have long term negative effects on the body. Chronic, long term, stress can strongly affect the body’s health in many ways. Situations such as a death in the family or other traumatic events can cause a physical and mental burden and result in serious health issues. Chronic stress can affect your body, feelings, thoughts, and behavior. For example, stress can affect the body by causing infertility, a weakened immune system, damaged respiratory and cardiovascular systems, depression, and a host of other illness. As a matter of fact, chronic stress can cause a decrease in libido by decreasing testosterone levels in addition to decreasing weight and hair loss. Since stress is exhausting for the body and mind, it can be hard to relax, which can also take a toll on your libido. Equally, chronic stress can cause amnesia which can affect behavior and cause great emotional stress. High fever and sickness can accompany amnesia which can make the condition even more stressful for the sufferer. One form of stress that can cause many problems is called hypochondriasis which is the fear and excessive complaints of bodily disease. Hypochondriasis can cause themselves to contract diseases that are related to stress simply from worrying about the diseases that they think they have. In conclusion, chronic stress can affect the body, thoughts, feelings, and behavior in negative ways. Stress can cause problems such as depression, insomnia, a weakened immune system, and much more. If a person does not recognize that they are stressed, serious health problems can result .
