Chronic stress is a long-term stress. I’ve recently experienced chronic stress at my workplace. I have been working at a movie theater for a few years now, and the pressure of it has been building up. At my work place, we are constantly pushed to upsell to the customer, and it has been getting more and more stressful. As much as we understand that the customer does not want to purchase something other then their chosen concession snacks, it is obligatory for us each to offer and attempt to upsell as much as possible. Working in this high-pressure environment, has often caused me to feel psychologically and emotionally drained. Physiologically, l come home from work extremely tired from standing up and running around all day. Sometimes, my
When thinking about Evicted and the different chapters we have learned about in class, the first chapter that came to my mind as relating most to Evicted was the chapter Stress and Health. Many topics in that chapter appeared in the book and related to many of the problems that the characters were facing in Evicted. The characters in the book had stressors that affected them in their daily lives, which also caused many health problems in the long run.
Chapter 6 covers the fundamentals of stress disorders. After reading this chapter discussing the fight and flight response, psychological stress disorders and physical stress disorders, I have a better concept of this subject itself. Our fight and flight response is trigger by our hypothalamus, which sends off neurons and chemical for our mind and bodies to react. As discussed in class, the autonomic nervous system control the involuntary activities like heartbeat and breathing. The sympathetic nervous system is aroused when we face danger (THE FIGHT). For example, the sympathetic nervous system makes our heart beat faster when we are scared. The parasympathetic nervous system (THE FLIGHT) help make us calm, like regulating our heartbeats.

Reading over my stress journal analysis, I have learned to care for the people in my life and I have notice I have a lot of hate and angry built inside. In my life there many stressors, the main one I have notice through tis project is angry.

One of the most common strategies to relieve workplace stress is to implement an intervention. Within the literature, stress is reduced or eliminated by using stress management interventions (SMIs) that can be used on two types of levels: individual and organizational (Biggs et al., 2014a; Biron & Karanika-Murray, 2014; Cheung et al., 2013; Dollard & Gordon, 2014; Fridrich, Jenny, & Bauer, 2016; Füllemann et al., 2015; Hoek et al., 2018; Hurst, Baranik, & Daniel, 2013; Huss, 2012; Li et al., 2017; Lloyd et al., 2017; Nägel et al., 2015; Pack, 2012; Von Humboldt et al., 2013). There are benefits to using both SMIs depending on the situation and the amount of stress experienced. However, it is important to understand
Distress and eustress are both essential for survival. They cause a person to react differently in demanding situations. Good stress is helpful in keeping us productive and motivated to accomplish our goals. “Stress can sometimes be a positive, motivating force that can improve the quality of our lives. This kind of stress, called eustress”(PSY101-12.1). This kind of stress is helpful in bringing the best out of an individual. For example, eustress helps us prepare for an event, in the same way a boxer would train heavily to be in the best physical shape possible for his big fight. The stress would motivate the boxer to get up early and train everyday for a positive outcome of his fight and to be victorious the night of his bout. “But
Vasudha Venugopal, (2010), an increasing number of IT professionals has been finding it difficult to handle emotional stress, according to experts. An occupational hazard,' the stress related to work needs to be addressed without delay, they emphasize. Coping with stress and striving for mental health welfare should be a matter of concern for all and not treated simply as a lifestyle problem of the IT phenomenon, says Nithya Chandrasekaran, a consultant physician for many IT companies in the city. Post recession, employees feel pressured to perform well. Regular occupational problems such as wrist problems due to constant handling of the mouse, slip disc and eye fatigue are common now, but handling stress that arises owing to fear of losing job or to cope with the increasing competition, affects the employee's performance, eventually, taking a major toll on his health, doctors explain. As if to acknowledge the prevalence of high levels of stress among employees, many IT companies have help hotlines that provide counseling intervention to their employees who face stress or psychological fatigue. Companies such as Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Cognizant and Wipro have regular stress breaks intended to help the employees strike a healthy balance between work and fun.

Stress is a natural part of life; it occurs as a natural physical and psychological response every time there is a change. It can be very good to people, helping them reach a certain goal (this type of stress is called eustress). The problem, and where stress gets an automatic bad thought, is when stress becomes distress. Distress is defined as “great pain, anxiety or sorrow; acute physical or mental suffering” (Dictionary.com). Doctors are taught different types of drugs to prescribe like antianxiety medications that all have annoying and unpleasant side effects - some can actually come with an increased risk for depression, which is something most people suffering from anxiety also experience. Doctors will also often prescribe psychotherapy along with the medication with the goal of decreasing the effects of anxiety (Maser ). However, many health professionals overlook one possibly more beneficial way of management - meditation. While there are many solutions for decreasing stressors and their harmful side effects, meditation seems to be the most organic and beneficial.

Through strict compliance with the ethical principles outlined by the Belmont Report as well as the principles outlined in the CITI Program training courses (CITI Program at the University of Miami, 2013), respect for persons, beneficence and justice will be exercised in creating methodologies and during the data collection portion of this research. In addition to minimizing risk to research subjects, the use of IRB approval processes will help to increase the confidence in methodology and the future validity of the data secured from subjects.
