The City of Ember film and the novel was very action packed and interesting. The novel The City of Ember was written by Jeanne DuPrau. The City of Ember is about a boy named Doon and a girl named Lina who are trying to escape a old run down city. They escape and write a note to the other people in the city so they can escape. The City of Ember has many similarities and differences between the novel and the film; however the novel was a more entertaining experience. There are many similarities between The City of Ember novel and the film. One example of a similarity is Granny dying at night when she calls Lina in the room and Lina doesn’t know because she couldn’t see. Another similarity is Lina sees Lizzie trip and fall and finds food that Lizzie is getting from Looper. One of the most important similarities is that they get out of Ember and they write a note to Ember and drop it in the hole where the city can be seen. These events are important because Granny dying makes Lina become more interested in the instructions. Lina finding out that Lizzie was getting food from Looper is important because it helped them figure out the mayor’s stash of supplies. One example is there wasn’t a secret room in the greenhouse in the book were Lina and Doon hid from the guards. Another difference is in the book they don’t find and use Doon’s dad’s machine to get through the tunnel to the opening. One really important difference is that in the movie the way out is much more complicated and long. These differences were important because the secret room in the greenhouse helped them hide from the guards and not get caught. Doon’s dad’s machine is an important difference because it tells us that he was trying to escape with Lina’s dad. The way out in the movie was more complicated is important because it adds more action in the movie and makes the movie
Comparing the book to the movie you can clearly tell what certain things are different. For example, Sydelle Pulaski worked for Mr. Westing in the movie but only talked over the intercom. This not only caused a lot of drama but more depth to the plot. Also, Crow didn’t go to jail but they did talk about most of the consequences of her going to jail. This made a little bit more serious and emotional instead of just letting it go.
For instance, in the book Joppy knew Albright; Albright knew Todd Carter; Todd Carter knew Richard McGee as well as Matthew Terrell whereas in the movie every character denied knowing each other except Albright and Joppy. Another noticeable difference is that in the book Frank Green, Daphne’s brother ends up murdered and in the movie he lives and they both end up moving. The third noticeable difference is a character name change from the book to the movie; Matthew Teran in the book is Matthew Terrell in the movie and he ends up being murdered in the book whereas at the end of the movie he’s running for mayor. A fourth noticeable difference is the pier scene. In the book Albright and Easy meet at the Santa Monica pier and in the movie it is the Malibu pier. And the last most noticeable difference between the book and the movie is that Mouse knows Daphne Monet or shall we call her by her real name Ruby Hanks; however, in the movie the audience never finds that out. In the movie the only true thing you get to know about Daphne is that she is both black and white. Therefore, due to the many differences between the book and the movie it is confusing to the audience since it is almost like dealing with two different stories because of the plot inconsistencies.
An example would be the bombing of Baba-Levy's house. In the book, the bombing occurred while Marjane was at the mall on her way to her house. The movie showed this scene close to the last section of the first half of the movie and didn't mention her at the mall. The text however, showed a clear description of her reaction to the news of the bombing and running to her house for fear of her neighbors and her family's safety. In total, the text summarized and transitioned the plot better than movie.
mean there are only small little things that are different in the book and movie.
One difference is that Percy Jackson and Annabeth are 12 in the book but 16 in the movie, and in the book Annabeth has blonde curly hair but in the movie she has brown straight hair. Another contrast between the two is that Mr. D (Dionysus god of wine, agriculture, and fertility of nature) is in the book but barely in the movie and we know that Percy is Poseidon's son from the beginning of the movie when he holds his breath in the pool for a couple minutes but in the book he's not claimed by his father Poseidon until he gets to camp Half-Blood. Percy gets told by Mr. Brunner (Chiron) that he can't have any electronics because the monsters will be able to track him but in the movie Percy has a iPod that helps him cut Medusa's head
For example, the reader is introduced to Helen as a baby. Meanwhile, in the motion picture the watcher is introduce to Helen when she’s six years old. This a major difference because the reader views how Helen started unlike the watcher of the movie. Another example, in the story Helen is pictured as a filthy mess, but in the film she is always in a nice set of clothes. This is a very important change because it shows how a person depicts Helen. Lastly, Annie is haunted by nightmares of her brother at the State Court house. In the book their is great deal of flashbacks in the story, but in the movie their is only one. This shows how Annie had to fight the voices in her head and the guilt of her “ killing” her brother. Even with these differences, it still tells the amazing story of Helen
The 3 major differences that were seen are the shattering of the conch, the pilot’s presence, and Ralph’s attitude towards Piggy. Due to these major differences the novel left a greater impact on its readers than the movie on its viewers. Seeing the movie and as well reading the book, personally the book was a better. The book has a very different approach of that showed these 3 major differences to their full extent. Out of the two though, I would choose the book as more pleasant and
The book and the film were both simular, and yet different in many ways. An example would be, in the film, Ponyboy was walking to the drive-in and meeting Cherri and Marcia. Although in the book, Ponyboy began his journey by telling the readers about his experience about being jumped by the Socs and being threatened. The director probably had some options to pick from to leave out from the movie, and the director chosed this to leave out. Leaving out the part where Ponyboy was jumped was an effective move because without the experience Ponyboy was lost and helpless because he did not know what to do when he and Johnny got cornered in the park by Bob and other Socs.
Some things are different in the book and movie. Like Sunset Towers and Money in both versions. Sunset towers is luxurious in the book but a bad place to live downtown. The money the will was worth 200 million but in the movie it is worth 20 million. Another difference is that the Wexlers moved to Sunset Towers because they had no money, but in the book they moved because they had money. In the movie Jake Wexler is paying off his debt though they have money in the book. Jake Wexler is a
Differences (stick with at least four)- Ponyboy has a good relationship with sodapop and gets along better with darry but still has a very good relationship with his brother. In the beginning of the book, Pony gets jumped by some Socs, but he doesn’t get cut with a knife. In the movie, they cut him. In the movie when ponyboy is talking to cherry he says how the sun on the south side and she says”good how bout the north.” In the book it's written west and east. Also in the movie johnny never got his first beating from the soc in the book he does. In the book it gave more detail and information in the movie it starts like in mid way of the book.
Do you like mysterious books? If you do, then The City of Ember is the book for you. The City of Ember is about a girl and a boy named Lina and Doon who were not friends at first, but then became best friends. Then they found a set of instructions to get out of Ember and figure the the words out because their city was dying. After, they find a huge room full of boats to ride down the river to get out of Ember. At the end they get out of Ember. First I thought that The City of Ember was about saving the city, now I know it’s way more than that. I now know that the novel is about using teamwork to accomplish goals. Lina and Doon exhibit teamwork throughout the novel because they worked together through the whole book to accomplish a goal by figuring out the words to the instructions and finding all the boats and saving the people of Ember.
For instance, the book talks about how the greasers felt and how their feelings were, then in the movie, it didnt talk about it but it showed it. The way that they showed it was not as good as it was written. When reading we don't fall in love with the characters' appearance. We fall in love with their words, their thoughts, and their hearts. We fall in love with their soul. In movies we focus more on appearance and what's going on in the background, which then gets people distracted from what the character is feeling and their thoughts. On the other hand, you can see the actions of the characters in the movie, which might help you process the way they act, however with the book the author can use what he thinks and try to give people a general idea of everything. For an example in the book it talks about how Randy
For example in the film Cheryl runs into two hunters during her search for water, but in the book she encounters the hunters much later in her journey. The hunters go on to ask Cheryl for water. The film combines different events in the book. This is because books tend to be drawn out and films only have a certain amount of time they are allotted. Another reason could be due to the fact that if the film was to show every event in the book many would become bored and lose interest. Omitting certain events allows the film to remain interesting and easy for viewers to follow along with. I think many people would prefer the film version over the book, unless you enjoy reading more in
Here are some differences with the characters. Meg one of the main character's in the book has glasses and braces, but in the movie she doesn't have braces or glasses. Another main character is Charles-Walace and in the book he is five, doesn't go to school, and can't read, but in the movie he is six go's to school, and can read well. These are the differences
Although the movie "City of Ember" and the book had many similarities it also had many differences. This paragraph will consist of similarities and difference between the setting, character and symbols of the story. Here are three major differences and two major similarities. One major difference in the book and the movie was the movable light event. In the book the text mentioned "But in Ember, there was no such thing as the light you could carry with you"(DuPrau 65) which there weren't any movable lights in the book. In the movie there was a clip Lina and Doon went to the school of Ember to look for the book of ember but a security guard opened the school door with a flashlight in his hands (lso known as a moving light). A second great difference
