I’m interested in this position because I love the work that the Civic House does and I want to contribute my skills and experience to that work. This position appeals to me because I feel that I could what is necessary to support the initiatives related to community engagement and social justice. I find it exciting to have the opportunity to promote meaningful education, engagement, and community at Penn. During my senior year of high school, I held the office of Board of Education Representative on Student Government. The office required me to take concerns from the student body, create a report-style speech, and present one every month to the board, teachers, and parents. I also gave back to the community by serving part-time at the weekly …show more content…
Through student government and class council, I gained a lot of skills in organization and planning. It was of upmost importance to keep all notes, correspondence, and suggestions tidy in order to effectively plan my speeches and any events I had to plan. For Class Council, we planned events like our Junior and Senior Proms and class trips. This took both a lot of individual planning with different companies and partners as well as collaboration with other members of the committee. The best community engagement experience that I’ve had so far was coincidentally PennCORP. The program was so important to me because it taught me all of the fundamentals of community engagement and reinforced the reasons why I should care about the community and people around me. The most prominent lessons I took from PennCORP were that to be understood, you must understand and that there is no shame in vulnerability and education. I feel that because of the program, I am better suited to working with the Civic House and working with the West Philadelphia community. I’ve also learned to love the type of group discussions and workshops that PennCORP facilitated. It is so necessary to listen to the experiences of others and then sharing your
I called Kermit Johnson and offered for him to email the requested change. After making that offer, he is requesting me to send him and email referencing the amended request from LC2 to NC. So I am sending an email referencing what he verbally agreed to via telephone yesterday, with both of us being present.
I am interested in this position because I want to motivate others to be interested in about humanitarian issues. Also to persuade others to participate in volunteer works such as walks, charity events, and nature related activities. I am very interested in what the Red Cross Club has to offer and the benefits I can accumulate from the club such as improving my leadership expertise and my teamwork skills.
When I get old, I want my life-long resume to be diverse. Being involved in Hall Council is the start for that. Hall Council has already opened doors to new opportunities for me. Without Hall Council, I never would have had the chance to plan huge events or give housing tours. I am glad that I decided to apply for Hall Council. It has only been one semester and I have already learned so much. In the end, I am hoping to gain skills that I can use to help better myself so that I can be a great business leader and
I have always been interested in public service and how to help those in my community. In second grade, I became the representative for my class and it gave me a good appreciation for representing others. Later in Boy Scouts, I interviewed Penny Pink who had been appointed to the City Council and thought the position sounded really interesting. I am currently enrolled at Idaho State University for a Master’s degree in Public Administration and have come to believe that public service is essential for community growth and stability.
As a student, I have demonstrated many works of service to my community and school. Service opportunities have shaped me into the person I am today and these projects have made me realize how fortunate I am for all that I have. While I've been doing these service projects through the years, it has been a pleasure seeing the joy on the faces of people that aren't as fortunate as I am. Service projects that I have completed include managing the fish booth at the St. Leo's Parish Festival, being an altar server at St. Leo's Parish, helping cook dinner for the Ridgway Fire Department during carnival day setup, participating in the St. Marys Light Up Night by dancing, and Christmas caroling to local residents. I also participated in a zombie/princess
This position has allowed me to become well versed in university and housing policy and I am well trained in how to perform not only the administrative tasks required by this position, but also how to handle conduct reporting and sensitive situations regarding students. Due to my experience as a Community Assistant, I am confident in my abilities to perform the duties that the office of Conferences & Event Services will require of me, if selected for this position. Upon first transferring to Clarion, I took a job with the Center for Leadership and Development as the Student Leadership Coordinator for Clarion University. During my time in this position I developed leadership programming for Clarion University and coordinated and planned events such as the Mary Walter Speaker Series. During my time working with the Mary Walter Speaker Series, we focused on mental health and the dispelling of mental health stigmas.

At UNK I am a recipient of the KHOP scholarship and I am also a part of the sorority Alpha Omicron Pi. Through these two organizations I have stayed quite involved on campus and in the community. Through KHOP I was invited to join a learning community to be close to other students going through the same classes that I was. It was a great experience and it helped me increase my understanding in many of my classes. I was able to form study groups with some of the other students from the learning community. This helped me when I had questions but also helped me understand the material better by being able to teach it to the others in the group that didn’t understand it. Also through KHOP I have been given the chance to volunteer with many

The Aaron Price Fellows program has prepared me to be a responsible, engaged and caring member of the community. Throughout high school, fellows visited government, cultural and non-profit organizations in order to learn about their contribution to the community. It was through my experience as an Aaron Price Fellow where I learned that my hopes and dreams are achievable despite being be a low-income student. This program also taught me the necessary skills in order to become a leader for the organizations like the ones we visited. Some of those skills including listening, learning and giving back. For example, by volunteering I was able to learn about the challenges of homelessness from the individuals I served food to at the Father Joe's
Becoming student council president at Warren Central High School has an impact on me as a high school senior. As student council president I not only serve as an ambassador for the school, but I am a leader as well. I proved to myself that I had what it takes to become an effective leader.
At the beginning of this course I wasn’t sure what was meant by social responsibility and civic engagement. During this course I realized the meaning of both and the responsibilities that both imply. A definition of social responsibility that I found particularly poignant and concise comes from Entrepreneur Magazine, “Acting with concern and sensitivity, aware of the impact of your actions on others, particularly the disadvantaged” (Entrepreneur Magazine.com). Social responsibility can be as simple as paying your taxes or recycling your glass bottles. Social responsibility can be as complex as finding solutions to global warming or hunger in Africa. You can be personally socially responsible or you can be socially
The class discussion about difference makers prompted me to evaluate my life and consider the type of impact I want to make during my time at APU. After careful consideration, I came to the conclusion that the most impactful difference I can make during my time at APU is being present for my peers. I am on Living Area Council for my hall, which means that I work closely with my RA, LAC representatives on other halls, and Jess, our building’s Community Advisor to plan events for all of Trinity and for third south. This position requires me to spend one on one time with my RA, and because of that I am able to get to know her better and learn different ways I can support her. I also have the opportunity to intentionally get to know my hall so that I can plan events that they would find interesting and want to attend. I want to be the type of person that my hall mates can depend on when they need someone to talk to, someone to give them snacks, and someone who can give them cough drops when they are not feeling well. I try my best to be engaged, have my dorm door open, and ask people about their day when I see them in the hall or the bathroom.
The aim of the brochure was to inform the tourists about the best places to visit Newcastle upon Tyne. I included information about Nightlife, Shopping, Entertainment and Food, which I included with useful information. I am not allowed to use Arial and Times & New Roman. Other decisions were made which will be specified whilst I am discussing the pages.
